This is probably one of the worst mascaras I have ever used! I bought this for a tenner at Superdrug quite a while ago and since seeing it in my old make up bag my bad experience came to mind and thought I'd write a review on it for everyone to read.
I naturally have relatively long eyelashes so have always looked for a dark volumising mascara to really enhance my eyes. I'll admit I'm definitely not into natural wispy looking lashes and like them to be thick and defined, so of course this mascara, boasting it's volumising collagen enriched formula, appealed to me!
Firstly, the packaging. Wow! The tube is absolutely beautiful and I have to say looks much more expensive and sophisticated than it is. It's quite hard to explain why, it is a solid black thick tube with bold golden writing along it (just as the picture above). It looks as though the plastic tube is encased in glass because of another layer of clear plastic around the outside of it. There are 9ml of mascara, an average amount in my opinion.
Now for the important part, the application. The brush itself looked very promising to me, thick with plenty of soft bristles, but the first thing I noticed when I took the wand out of the tube was that the formula was weirdly sticky and sort of stuck in a stringy like formation all over the brush. Putting that aside however, I then went on to apply the mascara which I found quite difficult with the bulky shaped brush, I think it would be better if it was slightly curved or at least thinner at either end of the brush.
For me, I didn't find that it clumped that much but the formula was quite wet and sticky so is tricky to apply several coats neatly, especially because I found this took absolutely FOREVER to dry (a nightmare when I put my glasses on 20minutes after applying and there is still mascara trails on the lenses!) The mascara itself though was a lovely deep black which I was happy with as many mascaras I've tried tend to have that lacklustre black colour.
I found that this mascara was relatively smudge proof but DID flake quite a lot in my opinion, leaving little dots of crispy mascara underneath my eyes by the end of the day. Another thing I found was that the mascara didn't have the nicest smell, hard to describe but just not great, maybe a little chemically?
I have to say I didn't think much of this mascara and it seems the collagen was simply a gimmicky marketing trap to me. Shame.
When it comes to mascara I find that it is one of the hardest products to buy as with so many on the market in all shapes and sizes it is hard to not get lured in by clever marketing and money off offers. For me, I like to have a mascara which will last the duration of the day (work hours), won't flake and will actually deliver what it promises. A hard job to live up to but for me I find that L'Oreal mascaras are some of the best on the market and are affordable too. I currently have two L'Oreal mascaras in my make up bag which I will be reviewing but the first is L'Oreal's Extra Volume Collagene mascara.
I bought the Extra Volume Collagene mascara on recommendation from a friend who raved about it and I decided to give it a try as my other L'Oreal mascara proved worth it. I managed to buy mine online as my local Boots did not stock it but that was hardly an issue.
L'Oreal claim that this mascara gives up to 12 times more impact and is teamed with a 2 times bigger mascara brush (compared to the classic L'Oreal volumising brush). The idea of the bigger brush is that bigger the brush the more mascara will be applied to your lashes in a shorter space of time and thus the volume builds up quickly. As per L'Oreal's UK website "L'Oreal gives you their secret to lash volume - an expert combination of a super-sized brush and a Hydra-Collagen enriched formula, for breathtaking volume."
L'Oreal's Extra Volume Collagene mascara comes in a rather plain black tube which although hard to describe has an extra clear plastic casing around the black tube - if that makes sense! Written down the side of it is the product name in simple gold font. The top which the brush is attached just fastens as other mascaras do and if fastened correctly the top will fit the base of the tube as it's a slightly square design.
When I first used the mascara I was impressed by the brush size considering the actual mascara is quite small but when I first came to use it I noticed that I didn't need to scrape off any of the excess mascara which you can sometimes get, there was just no excess whatsoever even at the end. Applying it is just like applying any other mascara and we all have our own ways but I did find that the first couple of applications I have to put the brush back into the mascara base to get a bit more on the brush as it seemed that my lashes were not being completely covered.
However, now I've been using the mascara for quite a while now I have noticed that I can apply it to my lashes without having to re-apply several times for the mascara to build up on my lashes which is definitely good. It was almost as if the brush and the mascara needed to be warmed up before performing properly! Now, my lashes are covered evenly but a lot quicker than some mascaras I have used in the past which is definitely a plus. It certainly doesn't take long for the volume to build up and what is even better is that my lashes separate easily and don't clump together even if I've applied more for a dramatic look rather than a more natural look.
Despite the brush being 2 x bigger than L'Oreal's other mascara brushes this certainly prove any problems for me and I actually found it easier applying the mascara with a bigger brush as it covered more of my lashes (I do have naturally long lashes). L'Oreal claim that "it deposits just the right amount of formula on each and ever lash with virtually no clumps" and yes, for me I think that this is true (after the first couple of applications). My lashes don't clump together and separate easily giving quite a volumised effect which I like.
During the day the mascara hasn't flaked off leaving little black specks under my eyes and even after finishing work say 9 hours after applying it, it still looks great and just as good as when it was first applied which is what I want in a mascara, not something that I have to re-apply during the day as I simply don't have the time when I'm in the office! Even removing the mascara is simple as it comes away from the lashes with ease and so far my eye remover and even baby wipes manage to remove the mascara without giving you the panda eyed look!
For me I really like this mascara and I am very happy that I purchased it. It gives me the plumped up, volumised look that I am wanting and it has staying power. My only concern is that because it is a 9g tube of mascara and the brush is quite large that it will run out quicker than others and for that reason alone I am giving it 4 stars and not 5 as I think some mascara may be wasted in the bigger brush. Would I recommend? Yes, I would as in my opinion it does what it offers.
The L'Oreal L'Oreal's Extra Volume Collagene mascara comes in black, brown, waterproof black and smoky black and retails from £8 upwards.
In my experience, the quality of a mascara can either be "good" or "bad".....there really isn't much middle ground. Unfortunately, in my recent run in with L'Oreal Extra Volume Collagen Mascara I have placed this unequivovably on the "bad" side. To find this out, I had to shell out £9.99 at Boots - and I can honestly say that it was a complete waste of money because its not even good enough to sit in my make-up bag as an emergency mascara for if my principle mascara (Benefit Ooh La Lush) runs out.
This mascara comes in a tube which is pretty standard as far as mascaras go. Its black with rounded ends, and with a screw top which has the lash brush applicator attached. The packaging lets me know that the rube contains 9 mls of black mascara.
I believe the brush applicator is generally key to a good mascara - and at first glance, this mascara applicator looks promising. The brush is chunky and looks like it would provide good coverage to each individual lash. However, in reality, I found that the brush actually wasn't really up to scratch at all. While, in theory, it seems advantageous to have a bulky brush head for application, I found that the brush was too bulky to allow a neat application. I was unable to get to the root of my eyelashes without brushing mascara onto my cheek in the process - and this isn't a problem I've had in the past! Because I was unable to get to the root of my lashes, I found that only the ends of the lashes were covered - and this ended up making them look very heavy - and even a little odd. I certainly do not believe that it made my lashes look more voluminous - as the product claims.
This mascara did not waterproof and basically the slightest amount of moisture made the mascara run and left me with very attractive panda eyes. Infact, I found that even when I blinked my upper cheek was left with little bits of mascara on it - which I think was on account of the mascara being so thin and not adhering well to the lashes. It actually felt really cheap and nasty!
Overall, I think this mascara is terrible quality. I would not recommend this mascara to anyone - even if it was a lot cheaper!
It was my birthday this year when I received a surprise package from L'Oreal. It was their new Volume Collagen mascara in it. I was really surprised to receive anything and especially on my birthday!
The mascara came in exactly the same package as it is available in the shops. I have just checked its price in Boots and it costs 9.99 pounds. After trying it I wouldn't pay that much for it...
So how was the first trial? I applied the mascara as I usually do. It covered my lashes well and they really looked thicker, longer and curlier but the effect wasn't natural. Despite using completely new mascara my lashes stack to each other and the cream wasn't even on my lashes. I know how to separate them but I expect my mascara not to give me extra tasks.
I believe that 30% depends on the cream and 70% on the brush. The cream part of this mascara is really black and creamy. Mine is waterproof but it wasn't my choice this time. I prefer waterproof version anyway so L'Oreal guessed my wish. It contains 9 ml cream which is about average. I throw the old mascaras out after half a year; never use all the 9 ml cream. I picked up this one from my make-up basket to throw it out but first I wanted to share my thoughts with you. The cream has quite strong chemical smell. It dries quite quickly on the lashes and it can be cleaned easily with make-up remover.
The brush is said to be twice as big as usual. Well it is bigger but its bristles are made of the usual material which I don't think is good enough for applying evenly the mascara. These bristles are too close to each other and they cannot separate my lashes and they apply too much cream on them.
I used this mascara several times and it was long lasting and didn't smudge at all. The new technology L'Oreal used in case of this mascara was the Hydra-Collagen which has volumising properties. Well after spending some time on separating my lashes they looked really good. I found some clumps too. So what the manufacturer promised on the wrapper is simply not working for me.
I don't believe in Hydra-Collagen's volumising effect. This mascara was about the same as the average quality mascara you can get for half price. It had no special features you should spend extra money for.
Makes your lashes extra black and after a little extra work your lashes look thick, long and curly as you really like them. It didn't irritate my sensitive eyes and last long.
It just fails to perform as good mascara. There are clumps on my lashes and they stick together.
If you spent 10 pounds on this mascara and you don't want to throw it out right after the first application you must be very patient and use some other tools to separate your stack lashes and remove the clumps.
It was a great surprise from L'Oreal right on my birthday but the quality of this mascara let me down. I like L'Oreal products, especially their liquid foundations but this mascara is very far from the one Eva advertises... I think I am really good at applying my make-up and usually I can bring out the maximum from the make-up products I buy but this one is a disaster when you have to finish your make-up in minutes.
Do I recommend it? NO! I stick to my Max Factor False Lash Effect instead of this and I recommend you buying anything else but not this mascara.
I have been using this mascara since it came out and I really love it. I think my eyelashes look a lot longer and thicker when I wear it, compared to other mascaras. It can start to look a bit clumpy and smudge on my eyelid, which can be annoying, but only if I put too much on. If smudges occur it can be removed easily from the skin. It did take me a while to get used to the brush, as it was a lot larger than those I had previously used, however, I love how dark my eyelashes look when I wear it and I find that I can apply the mascara in the morning and it will last all day. It didn't give me eyelashes like Eva Longoria in the advert, and I wasn't expecting it too. However, I feel it does give me the length and thickness I like without it looking too 'fake'. I think with mascara, and with any make up, it's hit and miss - you have to try something to see if you like it. I think it's good mascara, at a reasonable price.
I impulsively bought three of L'Oreal Extra Volume Collagen mascaras when Boots had them on three for two...so i have been desperately trying to like this product. I admit, i was lured in by the advertising. L'Oreal promises that this mascara will make your lashes look instantly plumped up and state that the hydra-collagen formula will create twelve times more lash impact; it certainly seemed to work for Eva Longoria on the glamorous glossy adverts, so i was excited to give it a try.
The mascara tube is sleek and elegant, so it looks very professional and high end. It is very well presented and, packaging wise, i think it is one of the best looking mascaras. I have the shade Black 01, the mascara liquid itself is very pigmented. It is quite thick and looks quite inky because of the consistency and very dark colour, this makes the mascara best suited for dramatic looks as it is not very subtle. The brush, is very thick and is made up of many thick bristles, it is quite a lot bigger than most of the mascaras i have used in the past and seems to pick up alot of product; this really is a heavy duty mascara.
Before first applying this mascara i curled my eyelashes, but the mascara is so thick and heavy that they seemed to get weighted down and were nearly completely straight again. I tried to only apply a light layer but the brush held so much mascara it was almost impossible. The formula managed to stick my lashes together, so i tried to comb them out with the brush but that only seemed to make it worse as it collected so much product; not good when you are trying to get ready in the morning. On top of this, the mascara also takes a really long time to dry if i blink with 30 seconds of applying i end up with it spreading all over my eyes. It is really easy to get in a mess with this mascara, i do not find it convenient to apply.
Each tube costs around £10, which is quite expensive, so i decided to give the mascara another chance. I find if i scape all the excess off the brush and comb is over my lashes carefully and leave plenty of time in between coats it can look quite good. It does make lashes look fuller and more volumized because of the thickness of the mascara. If i concentrate on coating the top of my lashes it can make my lashes look quite long, because the mascara is very pigmented, it also makes my lashes stand out a lot more. However, i find that this mascara's results are a bit hit and miss, sometimes it can look good sometimes it can look really bad, overall i find it is really hard to get his mascara to look good as it is very thick and hard to control. It is not good to use on the bottom lashes as it gets too clumpy, so if i use this mascara i always have to use a different one for the bottom line of lashes. The mascara also had this strong chemical alcohol smell which does not make it pleasant to use.
I am a bit disappointed with this product, it makes my lashes look wet and inky. It does help with volume but this benefit comes hand in hand with clumps and glued together lashes. When i have some how managed to finish the all of my tubes of this product i will proberly not repurchase.
I have given this product three stars as it does volumize as promised, but it is very messy, takes quite a while to dry, and it is hard to make it look natural as it is very thick and clumpy.
It is maybe worth a try if you want a really dramatic and dark mascara for going out, but i wouldn't recommend it for everyday wear as it is hard to get it to look attractive as it is very bold.
After having said that I would always use Dior mascaras in a previous review, I ran out of my trusted mascara and being the mascara junkie I am I couldn't wait to get to a department store to get Dior and popped in to my local Boots.
L'Oreal's extra volume collagene black mascara attracted my attention, the packaging is very sleek and smart looking and I presumed it would live up to its claims. The tube is black and quite thick with gold font on the front and back, it looks very slick. The brush on the end of the wand is quite fat, its supposed to be an extra thick brush to thicken the lashes and claims to 'apply exactly the right amount of mascara onto your lashes'. I don't think this is true! The mascara costs £9.99 for a 9ml tube which isn't massively expensive (and cheaper than Dior) but I don't think this mascara is worth that amount and I have used much cheaper mascaras that have performed better.
The first time I took the wand out of the tube I noticed how clumpy the mascara looked on the bristles and was concerned it would do the same to my lashes. I had to wipe the bristles on the edge of the tube before applying. My concerns about my lashes looking like the bristles on the wand turned out to be right!
I applied the mascara as I would do with any mascara and immediately my lashes stuck together and looked really clumpy, with just one application, I was not impressed! My lashes did look thicker but I had to wipe some of the mascara off, and try and seperate my lashes, for them to look thick but not clumpy. The mascara also doesn't lengthen lashes well at all. To be fair to L'Oreal they do claim to volumise more than lengthen but most mascaras will do both, this one seemed to make my lashes look shorter as they were so clumpy!
All in all Im afraid I can't really say anything that good about the mascara, it does make my lashes look really dark, which is a positive, and they do look thicker once I have taken some of the clumps off! I did also notice that the mascara lasts well, I didn't need to reapply all day, but considering how clumpy the mascara is thats a good job! I definitely wish I had read some of the reviews on here before I purchased this mascara, there are much better things you can spend a tenner on!
Not a very good product. Saw the advert thought "ahh gotta try that" why did i bother??! ok the advertsing for this product was very good and definatly drew me in and the packing is very classic but the actual mascara is in my words "very poor" the brush is too big therefore all the mascara sits too far down the bristles so takes a lot of strokes to apply. It can come very clumpy if you rush so when you are getting ready for work and haven't got hours to waste applying mascara it turns out clumpy on your lashes and you then have to take extra time to sort it out. It smudges very easily, even if you just briefly touch your eye or have a slight scratch on your eyelid. Once it drys out it flakes off and as its mostly clumoy it falls in clumps around your bottom eyeline and looks awful. For the price it may not be an awful product but it isnt a good one either. I would not buy it again even if it was half the price.
After a bad experience with another L'Oreal mascara I really should have known better and stayed away. But the beauty junkie I am couldn't help myself and when browsing the aisles of Boots I believed the claims made by the L'Oreal Volume Collagen Mascara
The mascara comes in a black tube which is rounded and quite thick and stubby looking. Volume Collagen is written in gold font on the side of the tube. The tube is quite bulky therefore takes up more space in a make up bag than other mascaras. Not brilliant if you are short on space.
The brush on the mascara want is quite a large straight brush but has a lot of bristles. From looking at the brush it looks larger than other mascara brushes therefore I expected that it would live up to the claims that it would create extra volume.
A 9ml tube of L'Oreal Volume Collagen Mascara costs £9.99 in Boots. This is not in the "expensive" mascara price bracket but is relatively expensive for a high street brand. Therefore before purchasing I had high expectations that this would be a great mascara and justifiably worth paying a little extra for.
Again this was not the case and this is a very poor value for money product and should be priced under £5 for how badly it performed.
***Application & Results***
The claims are that the L'Oreal Volume Collagen mascara creates " breathtaking' volume with 12x more impact that your natural lashes. The 'instant impact' brush is two times bigger than L'Oreals other volumising mascaras 'deposits just the right amount of formula on each and every lash with no clumps'. The expert mix of supersized brush and hydra - collagen enriched formula promises to be the 'secret of lash volume"
Firstly applying the mascara was quite tricky as the mascara brush is so thick and bulky. It is difficult to get right under the root of your lash as the brush feels like it is going to poke you in the eye.
I also found that the L'Oreal Volume Collagen mascara was quite wet, this made the product easy to brush through the lash from the bottom of the lash to the top. However because the mascara is so wet you have to leave more time than with most mascara before you touch around the eye area in order to not smudge the mascara.
I do not think the claims that the brush " deposits just the right amount of formula onto the lash" is true". Although the mascara was wet I did not feel there was enough mascara on my lash. I think this was partially because the black colour of the mascara is not as deep a black colour or glossy as many other mascaras I have used. As a result this felt like there was not much mascara on my lash. I also found that the brush made my lashes clumpy and stuck together. This was because a number of coats were needed to give black lashes but as a result my lashes became stuck together rather than being separated, which is what is advertised by L'Oreal in the adverts for this mascara.
The greatest failure of this mascara is the fact it does not build volume to lashes in any way. My lashes looked slightly longer when I applied this mascara however the overall look was spindly lashes with not volume. My lashes did not look at all thicker once the Volume Collagen mascara was applied which is very disappointing from a mascara which claims to create 12x more impact.
The mascara stays on eyes all day and does not smudge and is relatively easy to remove with eye make up remover unlike some other mascara's from the L'Oreal range.
Another bad mascara from L'Oreal that does not live up to its claims and I would not recommend.
The overall look created by the mascara is clumpy lashes which are stuck together. The product does not deliver volume and in fact eye lashes look spindly and no real dramatic impact is created. Lashes do not look black and full which is what the product claims and shown on marketing literature for this mascara. Very disappointing.
The only real advantage of this product is that it is easy to apply and remove. If you are looking for more full looking lashes then don't believe the claims made by L'Oreal Volume Collagen Mascara.
Certainly not what you would expect for a mascara that costs £9.99. A one star product!
~~~Also posted in ciao 2011~~~
I have to begin this by saying I was so excited when this mascara was advertised, especially when I saw the brush (thick, short bristles.. I was thinking I would look like I have hundreds of eyelashes). It did not live up to its expectations.
This mascara fact its chunky, black (the actual colour of the mascara is very dark, almost like rimmel extra super lash black but thats another story) and looks good in my handbag. Secondly, it makes lashes thick and lush immediately. Negative and main issue is because it contains collagen the mascara turns gloopy and after a few hours it seems to dry and come off in big chunks.. or flakes. Not a good look when you've had a few bevvys and you dont remember to re apply.
I got this mascara for £5.99 on offer once, original price is around £8.99 from boots/superdrug. The most negative thing I could say would be it tends to only look good on women that wear a lot of makeup, its not natural looking at all. As I wear false eyelashes on a daily basis aswell this made them rot faster.
It seems like the mixture needs to be thinned, and the brush needs to have more bristles to seperate the gloop.
When it comes to make-up I am most definitely a MAC girl (geddit, no my name refers to my computer). Anyway, the only time I venture into other brands is for mascara, as I've often found MAC ones not that great for the extra expense.
So when my previous Max Factor mascara had finished I saw the
L'Oreal Extra Volume Collagen Mascara, advertised by Eva Longoria - My favourite Desperate Housewife - and I was sucked in (by the offer price).
The chunky packaging looks impressive enough, though the wand is a bit short. The first impression of the quality of this product is the thick custard-like "slurp" sound as you extract the wand. By the time it gets on your lashes it's getting to the consistency of MUD.
Not to put too fine a point on it, this is the worst mascara I've ever used. No, it's the worst piece of make-up I've ever used - I'm sure you get better with a Girl's World! (for those old enough to remember).
I inadvertently chose the waterproof version - guess what? Yep, it's not waterproof! Well not when you need it to be; ie - crying or in the swimming pool (yes I like to be glam at all times!). Yet when you come to take it off - it sticks hard and can't be removed for love nor money. I resorted to pulling it off with my nails - delightful.
Perhaps I'm being harsh. But then I'm thinking, maybe only Jodie Harsh (Drag Queen extraordinaire) might actually use this. For those who actually like their lashes morphing into 4 fat lashes per eye - then this could be the product for you!
Perhaps that's where the "Collegene" comes in - the "Volume" occurs by gluing all the lashes together - genius!
Don't buy it.
I picked this mascara up in Boots before Christmas (2008) for around £7-8 when it first came out. I was sucked in by the adverts and thought I would give it a shot.
The packaging is very sleek and smart looking. It is black with gold bold print writing up the side, it looks very smart in your makeup bag. I checked boots.com and the current price is £9.78, so I saved around a pound or so. The mascara is available in both waterproof and non waterproof. I have the former.
I have the mascara in black and the adverts promised "up to twelve times more impact". I find this very hard to believe. The wand itself is pretty big and is tapered to the end. It kind of looks like a bottle or hourglass shape. My first impressions were that the wand had lots of bristles and was very closely packed. I thought this would be perfect to separate my lashes and get every single one covered with product.
When I first used the mascara, upon pulling the wand out of the tube I was met with a mascara of a quite sticky and very runny consistency. When applied to my lashes, it didn't separate my lashes at all and just clumped. It left my lashes very thick and did lengthen them but nowhere near the "12 times more impact promised"!! The wand seems to pick up too much product from the tube too. When I do use this mascara, I have to scrape off the excess on the side of the tube opening!
If you, like me, apply a few coats of mascara, this mascara really is not the one for you. Applying more than one coat of this mascara will leave you with horrible clumped together lashes, although they will look marginally longer. When I use the mascara, I can feel it on my lashes which drives me mad during the day, my lashes just felt very heavy and weighed down. I have used a LOT of mascaras yet this has to be one of the worst. The product also never seems to dry, don't try looking up with this mascara on or you will be left with mascara on your upper eyelid. The product stays very sticky and damp on my lashes. I want a mascara that dries pretty much straight away, not one that stays wet!
It is also very difficult to get off, even having the non waterproof one. I had to use at least two makeup removing wipes as well as a specific eye makeup remover. Even after all that, I woke up to find mascara under my eyes.
I am normally a huge fan of L'Oreal make up but this mascara has to be one of their worst products. With quite a high price tag (just under £10), you could definitely get a much better mascara for your money. It definitely doesn't do what it claims to do.
I bought this as a special offer on board a recent flight- 2 for £16. It made claims that it would double the volume and length of my lashes while enriching them withthe collagen within the product.
The tube itself is quite sleek and handsome looking and the box has a picture of Eva Longoria on it looking as perfect as usual. Well, if I can have her lashes as they are on the box that can't be a bad thing I thought to myself.
On opening the product, I was happy to be greeted by a nice, thick, chunky brush. The product is quite thick and stodgy in consistency. I found that as soon as I applied it to my eyelashes, it set rapidly meaning that it went more and more clumpy as I continued to apply. My lashes stuck together like glue and I had to use my fingers and a seperate eyelash comb to seperate them. I never bothered with a second coat as it would just have clumped even worse.
The only thing going for this product is that it stays on a long time and doesn't rub off under the eyes. It does take a good scrubbing to get the stuff off again though.
If you have seen any of my other reviews you will probably have read that when it comes to mascaras I like rich black / brown pigments and plush, thickening formulas. Although I rarely buy any L'Oreal Paris cosmetics when they released a new mascara names "Extra Volume Collagene" it seemed right up my street so I decided to give it a go.
It retails for £9.78 for a regular sized, 9ml tube which isn't all that much less than a MAC or other medium / high end mascara. Is it just me or are drugstore prices creeping up daily?!
It promises to give 'breathtaking' volume with 12x more impact that your natural lashes. The 'instant impact' brush is two times bigger than L'Oreals other voluminizing mascaras and it claims to 'deposit just the right amount of formula on each and every lash with no clumps'. The expert mix of supersized brush and hydra - collagen enriched formula promises to be the 'secret of lash volume'.
It is only available in black at the moment which is a shame as I sometimes like to use rich browns with certain types of eye makeup.
It is packaged in a smart, black tube whic looks modern and stylish. "Volume Collagene" is printed along one side of the tube in gold text and on the other side there is a small description and a peel off label which reveals an ingredients list.
The brush is thick and 'wave' shaped yet the bristles are quite fine and sparsely placed - not really a promising sign when it comes to thickening mascaras in my opinion.
The pigment is a dark grey when swatched, not as rich or black as some of my other mascaras but once on the lashes it's not really noticeable so it's not much of a problem.
This mascara has a strange smell, so much so that I actually returned my initial purchase immediately after opening as it smelt sour and stale (yuck) but my replacement tube smelt the same so I guess it's normal! You can't smell it during or after application though so it's easily overcome.
When I applied to bare lashes the first think I noticed was the formula is very sticky and fluid. I prefer drier formulas so that's not really a good thing for me. With one coat I found it does no thickening whatsoever! It lengthens but for me it adds absolutely no volume. Since the formula is so sticky I then have to comb through with a lash brush which reduces any volume even more!
With two coats I found that "Volume Collagene" clumps badly, not only creating ugly lumps around the base / roots of my lashes, but causing the tops of them to stick toghether too. Not good!
Despite all of this I decided to keep it on throughout the day to see if it smudged or flaked etc and it was then that I encountered yet another problem - It never dries!!
It stays tacky for ages after application and if I accidently touch my eyes - even very lightly - my lashes stick together or to my eyelid. I have honestly never had this happen with any other mascara so I threw it away right away - what a waste :-(
So overall, not happy with this product at all. For £10.00 and from a well known brand like L'Oreal I expected something much better.
It didn't give me 'extreme volume' at all, only a gross, clumpy, wet, sticky mess. I will not purchase again and I will probably not buy any of L'Oreals other mascaras either.
All eyes on you. Up to 12 X more impact / L'Oreal gives you their secret to lash volume / an expert combination of a super-sized brush and a Hydra-Collagen enriched formula, for breathtaking volume / The Instant Impact brush is 2 x bigger than a classic mascara brush* to build volume fast / It deposits just the right amount of formula on each and every lash with virtually no clumps / Lashes look instantly plumped up.
