L'Oreal Glam Shine
Advantages: Makes your teeth look slightly whiter and the applicator is brilliant!
Disadvantages: Perfume like scent is a little odd for a lipgloss!
REASONS FOR PURCHASE
I like the Glam Shine glosses in general, but I'm going to write about my most recent Glam Shine purchase for the sake of this review. It is the L'Oreal Paris Glam Shine Fresh Lipgloss in Aqua Curacao. I was excited to try this lipgloss after reading about the summer range of 'Fresh' lipglosses in various beauty blogs.
Aqua Curacao is clear but with a blue tint. Blue tinted lipglosses supposedly make your teeth look whiter. I was intrigued to put it to the test!
I purchased by gloss from Boots and here is what they have to say about the Glam Shine Lipglosses in general:
"A dazzling, glamorous, lip-plumping effect as stunning colours mix with sparkling particles.
Use alone for a high gloss shine or over you favourite lip colour for a more dramatic effect."
I took to the L'Oreal website to find a bit more information that was specific to the Glam Shine Fresh range:
"Drench your lips in Glam Shine Fresh. L'Oreal Paris presents its first lip gloss enriched with vitamin C & E.
Available in 7 tangy shades: from bright yellow to cobalt blue and mandarin. It applies sheer on lips to give a subtle pop of day-glo fresh colour."
PRICE / AVAILABILITY / APPEARANCE
You can pick this lipgloss up for £7.69 from Boots Online. This is for the standard 6ml tube. Not that big to be honest! If you're happy to shop around online you can pick up one of these glosses for £6. Already it's sounding much more reasonable!
The Glam Shine Fresh lipglosses are available at most branches of Boots and some Superdrug stores nationwide, as well as some larger supermarkets and online shops too.
The tube looks pretty standard. It's slightly curved so it is widest at the top of the lid and base, and narrower in the middle. The tube is clear so you can see the colour of the gloss you're getting, have a silver lid, and a wide doefoot applicator brush.
Firstly, when I opened my tube of lipgloss I was impressed with the applicator. It's quite wide compared to a lot of lipgloss doefoot applicators, and somewhat tapered to the shape of your lips. This makes application a breeze.
When I went to apply, I have to say I was a little put off by the scent. I prefer lipglosses to be scent free, or if not, then smell of something a bit sweet like a hint of vanilla. This lipgloss however, has a slightly floral / perfume like scent in my opinion, and it seemed odd for a product that goes on your mouth! It is in no way unpleasant, just a little surprising!
So I applied my gloss and was impressed at how silky and smooth it felt gliding over my lips. As I said before, the slant of the applicator made it easy to apply, not that it would matter anyway, since it is so sheer!
L'Oreal would have you believe that you'll see some sort of colour payoff from the tube to lips. This is very unrealistic and you'll probably know this straight off from seeing how sheer the colour is in the tube and on the applicator! Anyway, the optimist in me was hoping that there would be a hint of blue on my lips. I have to say I'm a big fan of unusual colours!
There was no hint of blue on application, but whatever tiny amount of pigment there is, DOES make my teeth look whiter. I can't work out if this is just because the idea was put in my head or if it works, but either way, I'm quite impressed here!
I was very impressed with my initial application and thought the gloss worked best on bare lips with my normal 'day time' makeup. It pretty much lasts until I have something to eat. A drink or two and your lipgloss will still pretty much be there, if only a little lighter than after initial application. As with 99% of glosses though, you'd need to reapply this one after a snack or meal.
I was surprised at the RRP of this gloss since it's a 'High Street' brand that you can pick up from a chemist. I would expect to pay between £4 - £6 considering the brand and size of tube. That being said, a lipgloss will always last you a good while, and the Aqua Curacao 'hint of blue' shade is quite unique to high street makeup. You'd struggle to find a similar colour at a similar price.
If you quite fancy having the appearance of ever so slightly whiter teeth, then try this one out! I probably won't try any other colours in the Glam Shine Fresh range, but I'll stick with this one and would probably repurchase.
I've been impressed with the applicator, staying power and hint of barely there sheer colour. And a bit disappointed with the scent. The pros for me do outweigh the cons though!
Summary: I love how different this 'barely there' hint of blue colour is! A must have summer gloss!
