L'Oreal Infallible Brush
Advantages: A fantastic foundation for an oily/normal skin which is natural with an inbuilt foundation brush
Disadvantages: Terribly false advertisement claims - does not stay put for 24 hours
~~~~ PRICE AND AMOUNT ~~~~
The retail price for this foundation is £12.99 but I got it on offer for a few pounds less. It is currently on offer for 3 for 2. Also if you purchase this from Boots you'll get 48 points on your advantage card (it all adds up!) One of my disappointments with this foundation was when I looked on the back of it to see that it was 25ml not the regular 30ml size for a foundation. I guess it is because they have added the brush with it so it looks like it is a 30ml or more when on the shelves of stores.
~~~~ PACKAGING ~~~~
This foundation comes in a long relatively thin see through plastic container. It has a red band where the foundation stops and where the foundation brush is. This along with the red writing on the front shows that it is by L'Oreal. It states on the front of the container that it has a 'high precision foundation brush' which I have to admit that I completely agree with. The brush is fantastic and after several uses it does not feel clogged with left over foundation - it still feels new. I will wash it in the future but it does not feel like it needs washing just yet. The instructions state to clean the brush with a clean tissue after use and not water but in all honesty if I am going to clean it I will do it properly with soap and water and then let it dry naturally. That is what I have always done with other foundation brushes which have stayed really nice. But I suppose I will have to be careful to not allow water to travel down the brush and into the foundation. There is a case to put on over the foundation brush which is fantastic if I am putting it into my handbag if I want to touch up during the day.
~~~~ WHO IS THIS FOUNDATION FOR? ~~~~
It is for somebody who would like a moderate yet natural matte finish which stays in place and for somebody who wants something that is quick, easy and handy to carry for travelling. In addition to this it is for somebody who requires an SPF (Sun Protection Factor) in their foundation - it has SPF19 (which I think is a very random number though). It is also for somebody who has normal to oily skin. It is not creamy enough for somebody with dry skin.
~~~~ SO WHAT IS SUPPOSEDLY SO SPECIAL ABOUT INFALLIBLE BRUSH FOUNDATION? ~~~~
Well as advertised it is supposed to last for up to 24 hours. I really hate how they say 'up to' though because that could simply mean just 1 hour. Well I can certainly say that if anybody thinks that it has lasted on their skin for 24 hours that they are lying or they have not looked in the mirror properly. There is no way that it lasted for more than 5 hours on my skin. However, because I have such strange skin I was still quite impressed by this. It did not go cakey, it simply looked like the makeup was not fresh on the skin (which it wasn't after 5 hours).
It is also supposedly transfer proof (that it does not come off on clothes). However, this was certainly not the case - when put to the test when I put a white v-neck top on, all of the inside of the v-neck had foundation all over.
How can companies make these claims which are so false??!!
There are currently six shades in the foundation which is actually not that many. Normally this would mean that I have no chance of finding a correct foundation colour but to my luck they had an extremely pale shade called porcelain - which in actual fact is perhaps a little too pale for me. But I would rather be too pale than too tanned looking or orange.
~~~~ HOW TO USE ~~~~
Twist the red band in the direction of the arrows to get the product out. The foundation comes out through the middle of the brush. Too much foundation comes out after one twist to simply apply it straight to the face which is why the instructions state to transfer the foundation to your hand and then use it from there with the brush. The instructions also state to brush from the middle of the face outwards and downwards. I suppose this is because most people want the most coverage of their foundation down the t-zone area and want it more natural out towards the side of the face to prevent any foundation marks or a dreaded foundation line on the jaw.
~~~~ IS L'OREAL INFALLIBLE? ~~~~
Well I have tried the original L'Oreal Infallible foundation without the brush and if you have tried that before then it does feel and last just the same. It is more or less just about the difference of having the inbuilt foundation brush. It would seem that L'Oreal are copying YSL with the brush but I certainly love it. I think it is a lovely foundation for the day time when I am lazing about at home but I will not wear it out at night or at work I do not feel like it gives me enough coverage. However, I do think that it is probably quite a buildable foundation but I do not like to put layers of foundation on top of each other. I do wear a mattifying powder over the top which I would say is a good idea to give it a little bit extra coverage. Overall I think I will buy this foundation again when it is next on offer. It is perfect for me with oily skin and I love that it contains SPF and the inbuilt foundation brush. But beware because I really do think that the claims of 'up to' 24 hours wear and non-transferring is absolutely ridiculous! Whilst ignoring the claims though there are many things I love about this foundation as already stated. It is certainly one of the best foundations I have tried from the self-serve counters in a place like Boots as opposed to premium cosmetics like Clinique.
Summary: A natural foundation with an inbuilt foundation brush for quick and easy application
