I really like the infallible range from L’Oreal with the exception of the lip liner which is useless. The rest of them are quite good though. The eye liners are great though what makes them stand out more than anything is the colours that they come in.
I buy this in a grey as it is difficult to find a nice dark grey liner and this is a lovely colour and ideal when I want my eyes smoky looking and don’t want them to be so defined with a black liner.
It goes on my eye very smoothly and doesn’t pull of drag the skin too much and it is gentle too so it won’t make your eyes sting or water. You can smudge the liner or have it more defined but you need to be quick when doing it as it does set quickly and once it has dried a bit on your eyes it is long lasting.
Once the liner has completely dried and set you are ready for the night as this just does not budge. Sometimes liners with claims of being long lasting barely last a couple of hours before they are all over your face but this one stays put.
I don’t normally sleep in my make-up and always try and make a conscious effort to remove it before bed no matter how drunk I am but I have fallen asleep whilst wearing this and the next morning it still looked good.
The grey colour is also lovely and works perfectly with smoky eye make-up. It defines my eye and makes them look bigger but it isn’t as sharp as the black and tones more in with my eye shadow.
It costs £5.19 and is worth every penny.
I'm always on the look-out for the perfect waterproof black liner. I've yet to find it, but this is one of the many I've tried on the way. At around £5.19, it's not the cheapest option for a simple eyeliner - I bought mine on offer at Boots, but would probably avoid it at full price. I'm not really a L'Oreal user, so came to this product blind; I'm on my third one now, though, so I've had plenty of time to think on it!
PACKAGING: This eyeliner is a retractable one, with the slim plastic case and cap typical of those. It comes with a small removable rubber at the other end, meant for blending and sharpening, but I find it invariably falls out and I lose it. The small print and marketing describe the product as waterproof, supposedly lasting up to sixteen hours without fading, with a creamy texture ideal for smokey looks.
COLOURS: There are four colours available: "Grey Obsession", "Chocolate Addiction", "Shimmering Black", and the one I use, the absurdly named "Night Day Black". It's not that hot a selection, but all the colours are useful, functional, and well-pigmented. Shimmering Black and Night Day Black are easy to muddle - I've bought the wrong one before, in a hurry - but Night Day is a plain black, while Shimmering has very fine glittery particles in it. It's almost too fine to make a huge difference, but Night Day Black is still my first choice from the range.
APPLICATION: To apply, you just have to twist the case to expose a bit of the liner's tip, and draw it on. The rubbery end of the pen can be used to smudge, though this has to be done quite promptly, before the eyeliner's fully settled. The liner itself has a great texture to apply: soft and creamy, with minimal pressure needed to get a dark line. It doesn't drag on the eyelids, and applies smoothly to the waterline without needing a lot of drawing on. I'm still sceptical of the rubber blender, though, since it's so easy to lose - though it's supposedly one of the product's big selling points, I just don't bother with it. It's not really a necessity for smudging, and I've never needed to sharpen retractable liners since they're already quite fine.
WEAR: This is where I have the most reservations with this product - I think its creamy texture works against it, making it too easy to smudge. It wears well on the eyelid, lasting most of the day, but is prone to smearing at the corners of my eyes. It doesn't last on the waterline, sliding off to make that dreaded sleepless panda look. I've never managed to make eight hours without it smudging, let alone sixteen! If you have the chance to sneakily tidy up and re-apply a couple of times during the day, it shouldn't be a big issue, but it's an unwanted hassle for a product that claims to be so hard-wearing. It's better for brief periods of wear, rather than as an all-day liner, or for only the lid and not the waterline.
I've had a lot of use out of this, and it's a pretty good all-round liner, but not the best. I think it's over-priced for what it is - there are cheaper retractable liners that apply just as well and don't fade in as unsightly a fashion. Rimmel's Exaggerate Eye Definers come in a wider range of colours and don't smudge as badly; Barry M's Intense Eyeliner Pens also provide a wide choice, and fade gradually rather than sliding everywhere, a real underdog favourite of mine. They cost over a pound less than this, too. Overall, it's not a bad product by any means, nice to have as back-up if it's on offer, but it doesn't live up to its claims and isn't really worth its full price.
As alot of you will know I am an eyeliner addict - it is by far my favourite cosmetic and I can't help but pick up a new one to try atleast once a week. I have had this particular eyeliner for around 6 months. I picked it up from Boots as it was reduced at the time from around £5 to £3 and it looked pretty good so I grabbed one as fast as I could. The eyeliner looks more expensive then it actually is and I personally think the pencil looks very upmarket and sleek. The thing that stands out the most to me is that it is made of plastic rather than wood. I really like this as it's a nice novelty. The colour of the pencil will depend on the shade that you buy. Mine is black as I have it in black however other colours available are brown and grey. To use this eyeliner you simply twist the bottom part and the eyeliner comes out of the casing, so this is a retractable eyeliner. On the other end it has a smudging brush which is really soft and easy to use.
Applying this is easy, the nib is soft and creamy but not too creamy - it's not mushy and it copes well with been pushed down onto my skin to create a very bold and intense look. It glides over my skin nicely - it doesn't drag at all and the line it creates is even, and it is quite accurate and gives a neat, subtle line of colour, but can also be layered to get a dramatic look. L'oreal claim that this eyeliner can last for upto 16 hours which is an impressive claim, but it actually does! I usually apply this at 7am before Uni and it will last right until I get home at 5.30pm, sometimes later, so it is a very long lasting eyeliner. I won't lie and say that it is flawless when I get home but it is still well pigmented - extremely black, and doesn't fade however it does seem to smudge a tiny bit after around 6+ hours. The colour it provides is very striking and it's amazingly pigmented, making my eyes appear bigger and more intense. It goes well with false lashes as because it is so bold it takes the attention away from the lashes so therefor makes my lashes look more natural. It doesn't smuge unless you deliberatly smudge it with your finger or use a smudging brush nor does it bleed unless it gets wet, and it is easy to remove with a few makeup wipes. The eyeliner is gentle on my eyes and has never caused me irritation.
I really find this ideal to wear on nights out to create a very OTT smoky eye look as it smudges so easily with a smudging brush. I've also worn it to Uni and it looked nice and subtle with just one layer, but it still made my eyes more intense and brought out the blue of my iris nicely. I usually use it on my waterline however it is soft enough to be used on my eyelid as a primer for pigments - it's creamy so is ideal for this. The only downside is that it is not waterproof and it does smudge when my eyes get slightly moist whether it be from sneezing or from crying - even the slightest sneeze seems to effect it so I doubt this would last long in the rain.
Overall this is a good quality and long lasting eyeliner (unless it gets wet) which I really reccomend.
I'm forever loosing eye liners, along with lip balms and several other items in my make up bag. I just can't seem to keep hold of them no matter how hard I try and have had to resort to keeping an eye liner and lip balm in almost every hand bag I own. My most recent purchase, which I've now had for over a month and have not lost yet, is L'Oreal's Infallible Eye Liner in black which retails at £5.19 in Boots stores at present. The eye liner offers you the chance to enjoy beautifully defined eyes for up to 16 hours (no make up has managed to stay on my face for so long I don't think!) by offering superior long wearing technology. That comment alone sold it to me as I always find I have to reapply eye liner during the day or night whenever I wear it.
The eye liner comes in a standard pencil format which has a lid at one end under which the eye liner can be found, and a plastic lid at the other end under which you will find a built in sharpener and also a smudger to enable you to get that smokey eye effect. The eye liner itself is a creamy formula, it's not a thin pencil but more of a stick liner which I prefer as it goes on thicker and often darker in my opinion. I find it really easy to apply right next to my waterline and it doesn't rub off or smudge easily at all which is something I've rarely found with an eye liner. It glides over my skin so there are no bumpy ridges or anything like that evident when I use this. It only comes off with eye make up remover as I've found water alone won't work at all. I bought the black variant which is really good, the colour is very dark and it looks fantastic when it's smudged slightly to create that smokey effect. The colour dries instantly and I don't have to wait for it to set at all.
This eye liner is available in a dark black, a shimmering black, a brown colour and also a dark grey colour too. This eye liner has been ophthalmologist tested and boasts that it is suitable for sensitive eyes and contact lens wearers as well. The skin around my eyes is quite sensitive and I haven't experienced any problems at all with this. The only downside that I can see is that the sharpener is a bit of a pointless feature as it's more like a retractable pen than a pencil and so I've never had any reason to actually sharpen it. I would definetly recommend this eye liner as it's long lasting, reasonably priced and gives your eyes a dramatic effect.
