I wear make up, and most importantly mascara almost every single day. I like one high end mascara but apart from that I love finding cheap but good quality mascaras. I use the brand Maybelline and rimmel London often but have never tried L'Oreal until this mascara. I bought it not too long ago from Boots for less than £10. This is a reasonable price for a mascara especially compared to higher end products. The packaging of this product is classy, I like that it is black and gold. I own a lot of mascaras which have bright colours so this is a little more subtle looking than most when it comes to the look of the bottle. The bottle shape and brush are pretty basic and what you would expect for a sort of cheap mascara.
The first thing I'd like to say is that the L'Oreal voluminous mascara is really basic. For the pros and cons of this mascara, one of the cons would be that this mascara is a little too wet for my liking but this isn't too much of a problem as this is a mascara that I like layering up. The mascara brush is really normal and basic, it has no unique shape of size to help make lashes appear a certain way. This mascara does the basic job of adding a little bit of volume, a little bit of length and it separates lashes. There is no feature that this mascara is super great at but I think that it is an all around good basic mascara. I would reccomend it if you are looking for a mascara that is not going to make your lashes dramatic or a whole lot longer. This mascara does a little bit of everything and does the job well for the low price.
At first I was sceptical about this mascara. I've tried and been through so many different mascaras and none of them worked. This mascara didn't have any clumps and volumized so beautifully. The only downside is it doesn't add enough length, so you might want to try adding a lengthing mascara on top of it if you want both, but for those who want volume this is the mascara you want!
~~~Loreal voluminious mascara~~~
I like L'oreal products and have been generally satisfied with them in the past so decided when shopping for my next mascara few weeks back to purchase one from L'oreal. It has been a while since I have brought anything from L'oreal due to massive choice of make-up and different brands and I was really spoiled for choice. I picked Voluminious one, the look of this mascara was definitely a selling point for me as well as promise of extra volume with no clumps. Perfect!!!!!
Eyes are my best facial feature, I have big eyes and I love using mascara (and make-up) to make them really stand out. I have olive skin and blond eyelashes and appear very dull looking without mascara or make-up.
Mascara is presented in a rather nice bronze/gold looking tube with black writing on it. In my opinion this is very classy look for mascara, well I have seen worse. My mascara is slightly different from picture here on Dooyoo, when I was buying it, there was couple of mascaras that were black with bronze/gold lid on it however they are both called the same and after my comparison of the two, I have not noticed any difference between them.
I like my brush to be thick with loads of bristles to those plasticy brushes with short bristles. I actually didn't know what the brush may look like with this one as there was not picture/tester available but I still decided to purchase it. When I eventually managed to opened it (it came wrapped in the transparent foil which took me and my hubby good few minutes to get rid of, what a palava) I was pleasantly surprised to see the thick brush with very slightly curved bristles on one side for better application.
This mascara is promising an extra volume with no clumps. I am not sure whether they have just given it a wrong name; my mascara actually gives my lashes extra length. Don't take me wrong, I am not complaining, I love the way this mascara makes my lashes look lovely and long, however if someone is buying this mascara for extra volume only they may be disappointed. I have noticed some volume in my lashes but not awful lot. I apply few applications; I like my eyes to stand out. Too many applications can leave clumps but I find that the same happens with other mascaras I have used before.
I think I paid around 9 pounds mark for this mascara in Boots few weeks ago but is available on line or other stores selling make-up.
I am quite happy with this mascara; my friend actually commented yesterday on how lovely and long my lashes look. I would recommend it however must point out that it gives extra length rather than volume so if you buying mascara just for the volume, I would buy different product.
I am awarding 4 points for mascara because I havent noticed any extra volume on my lashes. I like it because it makes my lashes super long.
I was blessed with long and dark eyelashes. I was cursed by being so short-sighted that if I am not wearing contact lenses or glasses my focal point is the end of my nose and everything after that gets increasingly blurred.
As a result, I need a mascara which does not disagree with my contact lenses, will not shed particles into my larger than normal badly astigmatic eyes and has a very easy to handle applicator so I can manage when I'm in glasses and have to apply in the blur.
I also really like good quality at a reasonable price.
This mascara fits all these criteria.
Price first. My current one came from Boots for £8.50 but it is a widely sold product and can be found online and offline at the main supermarkets and pharmacies from £7.00 to £9.00 depending on promotions and how pricey the outlet is generally. For this, you get a mascara which really does last.
There is 8ml of mascara in the tube and that has lasted me since just after Christmas. I do have naturally long and black lashes though and so only tend to use one sweep on the upper and lower lashes. If you have shorter and lighter lashes you may well need to do more than one sweep and so will use the product up faster.
The selling point of this particular mascara is that it volumises your lashes.
In my experience - yes. My lashes look fuller as well as longer when I am wearing this product. It delivers this without shedding into my eyes and lasts on the lash without my needing to reapply during an evening out or shedding into the eyes causing the panda effect.
The wand has a matt gold head which as it is a different colour to the body of the mascara makes it easier for this short-sighted girl to open the tube and is also sufficiently thick that it is easy to wield and control. This ease of use would be especially useful for those who need to apply more than one coat of mascara.
Clumping is always an issue with mascara, especially lengthening and volumising ones. Mine has not clumped, even though it is now getting quite old.
It comes in black and a smokey brown. I use the black one to match my eyelashes and brows.
The tube has stood up to daily battering in my handbag without leaking, though the lettering has worn off. But that is not essential.
Looking good can be though and this mascara helps me to do that at a reasonable price.
I, like many other women who weren't blessed with long, dark and fluttery lashes, am on the hunt for the perfect mascara. You know, one that will give length, volume, darken my lashes and give them a lovely curl. I heard many, many good things about this mascara and eventually purchased it, despite not liking L'oreal due to their animal testing practices.
The packaging is rather standard but quite sleek looking - a black tube with the product name and brand on it in gold lettering. The brush is, again, standard and made of synthetic hair instead of plastic like some mascaras. So far so good, but when I tried it out, it definitely disappointed me.
It didn't add much length at all. Now I know it's mainly for volume, but all mascaras should add a little length in my opinion. I tried to build it up, but then my eyelashes were transformed into a clumpy black mess. I think L'oreal must think that clumpiness = volume because this didn't volumize at all. Just clumped.
I'm very disappointed, especially as there were so many good reviews. Still on the hunt for the perfect mascara...
This mascara from L'Oreal costs £8.49 and is available from any Boots store or department store and other retailers which sell makeup. It is the cheapest mascara from the L'Oreal range. This mascara is one of my favourites. In my opinion I think it works really well and lasts a good amount of time. I wear mascara every day and I would estimate it lasts me between 6 and 7 months.
The mascara when you buy it is encased in plastic which is then attached to a piece of cardboard which tells you what colour the mascara is and the make and model of it. The actual mascara is in a purple and gold tube which looks appealing to the eye and quite sophisticated. The wand is long enough for it to be easy to apply to the eyelashes. Some mascaras have a really tiny wand and you struggle to hold it and apply it easily. The end of the wand from where the mascara is actually applied to the lashes is just about the right size. It is not too big so that the mascara ends up on your eye lids and it is not too small so that it doesn't give your eyelashes any length. This is a nice, even black tone and covers each eyelash extremely well. It doesn't clump at all and gives a nice fluid appearance after it has been applied. I think that one coat of it is enough to give your eyelashes volume and length. It lasts all day and doesn't flake down your face by the afternoon!
You can reapply a second coat to it as well and it will still look good, maybe slightly clumpier than when you just had one coat on but not so clumpy that you wouldn't add the extra coat. The mascara can be removed easily with eye makeup remover as well. Definitely worth the money.
This has bein a staple in my makeup bag for over a year now, it's a nice basic mascara and I can't really fault it. It's widely available and I got mine from Boots for around the £8.50 mark, prices do vary though depending on where you get it from, i'd say the average price is between £7-£9 which is quite expensive but it's a decent quality mascara and a tube lasts for ages so I can't really complain. I have this mascara in black but it's also available in carbon black which I am guessing is a more intense shade of black.
The tube that the mascara comes in is nice and basic, it's not over the top or particullary eye catching which I like as I am at the age now where I want things to be quite basic and sophisticated, rather than bright pink. The tube is average sized - around the same size as any other mascara tube, it's quite chunky in width and it holds 9ml of product. It's black in colour with elegant golden writing which simply says the brand and product name. The lid is golden in colour and quite shiny. It screws on/off and has the mascara wand/applicating brush attatched to it. The brush, just like the tube, is very average - it's a typical mascara brush which has decent sized bristles. It's not fancy at all - not curved or anything like that, nice and basic, but it does a good job in coating each of my lashes evenly and generously.
The formula is fragrance free and in my opinion is good quality. It's nice and thick and goes onto my lashes nicely due to the soft, smoothe texture. I do think it has a slight 'wet' feel to it on my lashes, almost greasy, but it dries pretty quickly so it's not a huge issue for me. This mascara contains Ceramide R which aids in making the eyelashes stronger, smoother and fuller, and also a vitamin called Panthenol which protects and also conditions lashes.
Using the mascara is quick and easy and I only need 2-3 layers to get visibly longer and thicker eyelashes which I think is great, even with one layer it makes them noticeably darker and slightly longer. I find with this mascara it really alters my makeup and I usually use this, a bit of eyeliner and some foundation for uni for a nice natural look, and it makes me look more alert as it exaggurates my eyes and brings the blue of my iris out nicely, making my eyes look more intense. The mascara is fine to be used by people with sensetive eyes and is also suitable for anyone who wears contact lenses. I have very sensetive eyes and I am fine with this mascara.
The lasting power is pretty good - around 6-8 hours and it doesn't dry my lashes out or flake so there is no fall out to worry about. It's not waterproof but it doesn't budge when my eyes get slightly moist from sneezing. Removing it can be achieved by using water on its own or makeup wipes/cotton wool soaked in makeup remover. It's incredibly easy to remove and it comes off so quickly and leaves no trace of mascara behind. Overall a good quality, long-lasting mascara.
After many years of searching for the right mascara, one that would give me flawless lashes at an affordable price I think I have found it. The voluminous X 4 mascara from L'Oreal ticks all the right boxes in what I look for in a mascara and is now my weapon of choice when it comes to creating both my daily and nightly eye makeup look.
WHAT IS SPECIAL ABOUT THIS MASCARA?
With a name like voluminous X 4 I would say it is pretty obvious what this mascara is intended to do, give your lashes 4 times more volume! This was the initial reason why I purchased the product as I am always looking for ways to maximise my lashes without having to use false lashes as really I only like wearing these on certain occasions.
After purchasing the product and reading about it I found out that there are other special features about this mascara.
The mascara itself contains ceramide R. Now I'm not sure a lot of you will know what this is as I didn't but what is does is it helps to protect and strengthen your eyelashes to leave them soft and supple.
L'Oreal also claims that the extra volume brush within this mascara will deposit just the right amount of mascara to prevent clumping and heaviness.
By looking at the packaging of this product you wouldn't think it was anything special. It certainly isn't eye catching and wouldn't jump out at you on a shelf surrounded by the many silver, gold and extra special packaging you see on some mascaras. I knew what I was looking for and still had a bit of a mission to find it.
The grey-blue tube tells you some more information about the product and the gold top opens to reveal the soft brush.
I wouldn't say that this is an extra big mascara brush but it certainly isn't small. As you pull it out you can see that the brush holds a good amount of mascara with no excess. This is always good for mascara as excess can only mean one thing, messy eyelashes.
The brush is a good size for you to get a good grip and apply the mascara with ease.
The medium-sized brush is also of an excellent size. You are in no danger or minimum danger if you are clumsy of poking yourself in the eye. I have done this with bigger mascara brushes and wow does it hurt!
The brush sweeps through your lashes smoothly coating them with the perfect amount of mascara making them lovely and thick and giving them a gorgeous curl with no clumps.
By making your lashes thicker and longer it is easy to see why this is called voluminous mascara. Personally I think L'Oreal are cutting themselves short by just calling this X 4 as I have used mascaras that promise X 10 and this mascara out performs all of them.
As I said earlier in my review I use this mascara both during the day and when I go out at night. I have found that this mascara is very versatile in this way as giving you lashes more coats in the evening helps to create a more dramatic look. I have even started to just use this mascara when I would wear false lashes.
When it comes to taking my makeup off I have found that this mascara can be removed easily with a face wipe and doesn't leave any trace or mess.
After searching online I have found that the average price of this mascara is between £7 and £8 which I think is an absolute bargain for what you are getting.
In case you couldn't tell I am absolutely in love with this mascara. I will continue to use it and I am sure I will repurchase it time and time again. Everything about it is great and dare I say it I have found "The one" in my mascara world.
L'oreal Voluminous Mascara
By the way, this is the original Voluminous Mascara I am reviewing, not any of the newer ones!
Recently I ran out of my old mascara, and as I like experimenting with new products, I researched a bit online, and decided to buy Voluminous Mascara, by L'oreal Paris. I got this mascara from Amazon for around a fiver, (there are lots of other deals with different prices on Amazon, so you just have to look around). Most people probably think getting make up off Amazon is gross or whatever, but they are all new, and come packaged, and they are a lot cheaper, so I don't see the problem with it! I got the 8ml mascara in Black.
So what does this mascara claim? Well it claims to give 'build lashes 5 times their natural thickness' 'thicken lashes evenly and smoothly, leaving them soft with virtually no flakes, smudges, or clumps.' and to be suitable for sensitive eyes and contact lens wearers. Well this sounds perfect right? A mascara that makes your lashes 5 times thicker, this was exactly what I was looking for!
The mascara comes in a cylinder tube, it is grey with a gold lid, and gold writing on the tube. The lid comes off easily when you twist it, and then you just simply pull out the brush of the mascara. The brush itself is actually quite thin, with lots of bristles. The mascara doesn't really smell of anything, it just smells like a normal mascara.
When applying this product, all I did was just start from the bottom of my lashes, and work the brush through my lashes, blinking at times too to help the product go on my lashes. I applied 2 coats to my eyelashes to get the affect I wanted. I found that when applying this product, there was certain times where the brush would pick up too much mascara, so the brush was thick of mascara, so a few times I had to just wipe the mascara off the brush and back into the tube. Also when I was applying it, sometimes I would accidentally get it smudged around my eyes, so there was black marks on my face. I am normally good at applying mascara, but I think this one was extra smudgey then normal!
I was actually very happy with the results, my eyelashes had a lot more volume, and looked longer! However there were a few lashes that were stuck together, and there were a few clumps. However for the volume that my mascara had it was defiantly worth it. All I had to do to get rid of the clumps, was to completely wipe the mascara of the brush, and go over my lashes again to separate them. Another trick you can actually do to get rid of clumps, is save an old mascara brush and wash it with water, and get rid of all traces of mascara on it, and then when you get clumps, just use that brush to go over the lashes! I found that this mascara stayed on all day without flaking. I have previously used mascara that has left black marks under my eyes, and flaked off after an hour, but this did not happen with this mascara, I was very pleased!
I think I will be buying this mascara again, because all though when applying it, it smudged a bit, and left a few clumps, I could easily solve these problems, by just wiping away the smudges around my eyes, and brushing out the clumps. This mascara gave me eyelashes lots of volume, and extra length.
Lo'real voluminous mascara promises to build lashes to 4x their natural thickness and add length with no smudges, flakes or clumps.
Its around £8 in stores such as superdrugs and boots for a 10ml tube.
This mascara is a make up must have for me so i tend to stock up on ebay as this mascara isn't always stocked in the stores.
Take Superdrugs for example, After weeks of going in to buy the mascara and it still not being on display, I asked a lady that worked there and she told me the mascara had been discontinued however around a month later they had it back in store, maybe the mascara is hard to get hold of or enough people just weren't buying it? I'm not sure to be honest, I'm just happy there re stocking it again.
But just be warned it can be hard to get hold of at times.
I first tried this mascara when I ran out of mine one day so i decided to steal my mums, i love this mascara because it adds length and VOLUME!
So if your not a fan of quite thick eyelashes Id say this mascara probably isn't for you.
The mascara claims you only need one coat to add 4x the volume of your natural eyelashes, while it does actually add 4x the volume I'd say you need to add at least 2 or 3 coats.
I wear false eyelashes now ( a beautician left a perm on my lashes to long and burnt them to a crisp so i had no choice) and i wouldn't recommend this mascara for false eyelashes , as its such a thick mascara it does tend to clump them up and make them a little to thick however i do use a tiny bit to blend my real eyelashes in with the fake one's and it blends them perfectly.
Their are a couple downsides to this mascara, it doesn't seem to last long compared to my other mascaras, it would last about 3 weeks for me and obviously at only £8 that isn't bad value at all its just my other mascaras would last at least a month and a half.
Also the mascara seems to dry out so i do end up having to add water to it.
This mascara is by far one of the best iv tried, if you like dramatic eyelashes id highly recommend it.
This is my favourite volumising mascara by far, actually, my favourite mascara ever! I've been using it for going on 7 years and at times have flirted with other mascaras when I've come into a bit of money or I have been drawn in by a special offer but none comes close to this. It gives a really intense black that thickens your lashes so you look like a doe eyed disney character with only about three coats on. It lasts all day and barely smudges, even if you accidently rub your eyes like I always end up doing. You can even top it up with more coats for the evening if you're want to look even more dramatic and it doesn't get clumpy. I find that it lasts me for about three months before it's time for me to get a new one. It's always in stock in Boots and Superdrug and I think it's just incredibly good value! And if you get the option, go for carbon black and then you'll get EXTREME black.
This medium priced mascara has received a lot of hype in the US. To my knowledge, it is not widely available in the UK - only in city stores as I know my local Boots and Superdrug do not have it yet the larger ones do. I saw this in Boots in The Thistles, Stirling for just over £8, however, I received a £2 off L'Oreal voucher so bought it for £6. I have seen it online for around £4 e.g. cosmeticsfairy.co.uk
I find the mascara easy to apply but I agree with many people that it is a very watery or wet consistency. I have not had any smudging so far and it seems to dry quite quickly. 1 coat doesn't clump but I rarely apply more than that cause I do not like the look of thick, spidery lashes. I do not find that it flakes but for me, it doesn't hold a curl for very long. The colour is a true black, but I think browns and blues are also available. This is not a very cheap mascara, but I think it is on a par with the YSL faux cils which I like but do not love. So basically, this is a decent mascara but nothing amazing.
This is probably the best mascara I've ever used, and believe me I've tried a few! I understand that this is one of L'Oreal's most enduring make-up items, which is probably proof in itself of how good the formulation is to have survived in a market as fast moving, competitive and high value as the modern day cosmetics market.
The mascara comes in a very simple tube by modern standards - no double ends or claims of fancy brushes, and no eagerly contoured tube - instead just a straight old fashioned tube and wand without the marketing hype of similar products. Despite the lack of gimmicks, the texture of the mascara is impeccable and it glides on smoothly and without clumps. It thickens admirably and also gently lengthens. It dries quickly, and also has a "true" black colour, to really highlight the eyes. It does not irritate contact lenses.
The mascara is very competitively priced, and lasts well. The main gripe I would have is that it can be hard to find in stores - usually being given just one hook on the L'Oreal display stand, to make way for whichever of their other mascaras are flavour of the month with the associated marketing campaign. This can mean that stocks deplete quickly and it is not always available.
I first tried Loreal Voluminous Mascara afew years back. I was looking for a good mascara that would add some thickness to my already long lashes, and i was hoping to make the switch from my tried and true 'great lash' mascara which i had grown so comfortable with. I noticed loreal voluminous as i glanced through the many aisles of cosmetics, and the price was not as low as with my former 'great lash' mascara, nor was the packaging very appealing. However when i read that it promised to infuse my lashes with incredible volume, I decided to purchase it straight away.The mascara cost about $10.00 in the store and this was typical of most mascara's on the market.
I decided to use my new voluminous mascara the next night as i was going out to a club and was curious if it could last through the night and if it would really thicken my lashes without clumping as the packaged promised. The packaging was not spectacular just a greyish coloured tube with gold writing and a gold tipped end. I put on my foundation, concealer, and blush before attempting the new mascara. I twist the wand open and noticed that the brush was extemely thick and big, which was a far cry from my tiny little maybelline 'great lash' wand and lots of extra 'goop' comes out which was also highly unfavorable. I began to apply my first coat from the lash line, up and out. I had to admit that i was rather impressed upon first stroke that my lashes already looked thicker and fuller. I proceeded with the next eye, and once the first coat was dry i used an eye lash curler to give more curl definition to my lashes. Then i continued with another two coats on each eye before deciding that i had achieved the look i wanted. The mascara did a pretty good job at adding fullness to the lashes, however they did turn out slightly chunky and looked rather weighed down by the weight of the mascara. The shade i chose was blackest black, and it was not as black as my previous mascara which was kind of disappointing.
I spent the whole night dancing in a humid, sweaty atmosphere simply praying that my mascara had lasted through it all. When i looked in the mirror at the end of the night i was quite disappointed due to the fact that i had little black specks under my eyes and some smudging in certain areas. My lashed looked worn out and worn down by the heaviness of the mascara and overall this wasn't the best result. The product did wash off effortlessly that night which is a bonus. I used the product again to many other events after that night and it lasted longer than the night at the club. I dont recommend using the mascara when working out, dancing, or sweating or else expect the under-eye residue by the end of the night.
I must say I love L'oreal mascaras and find them all fantastic.Although this is not about the volumising mascara I have put my reveiw for this product here because I find this one actually gives more volume (I have tried both). If you like a dramatic effect this is the product for you.I think it gives a really good false eyelash effect and gives a good thick coverage. The mascara itself is quite thick I really dont like watery wet mascaras.The other good thing about this product is that although you can get a good dramatic effect from it you can also acheive a nateral look if you just apply one coat. What can I say I love it its by far my favourite mascara and I think other L'Oreal mascaras are fantastic too.
