Advantages: Cheap but quality, no smudging

Disadvantages: Too much packaging

Credit crunching recession has me looking for bargains in the weirdest places. Now something is only a bargain if you use it - right? Well a few weeks ago I had seen in my weekly Aldi magazine that they had started doing make up - not by Aldi, but a brand exclusive to Aldi.

Lacura. Sounds nice eh - Dead posh

You will see by the picture - this is what the mascara looks like in a dark silver - quite classy packaging, this comes in - it has to be said - an oversized box, too much packaging for this day in age I think. All the same it is nice packaging.

But I digress. I purchased an 8ml Black volumising Mascara for just over £2. A bargain for mascara - which was a good start - they had it in black - brilliant.

So I got home - unravelled the reams of packaging, with a touch of trepidation unscrewed the cap. What came out was a nice smell (think YSL mascara but not as flowery) and a standard mascara brush with - you guessed it black mascara.

So I just thought I would try it on an already briefly mascara'd eye. Worked ok - eyes weren't stinging. Brilliant.

It's pretty easy to remove - slight Panda eyes if you don't wash it off or use eye make up removed, if you are just using normal cleanser you may need extra help. So the next morning had me getting ready for work and testing my new mascara. So on fresh eyes it goes on Ok.

I always find the more time you take the better your lashes look and I find this with all Mascara's 2 coats look better than one etc. So I rarely buy into how fabulous mascara's are -as to me they behave pretty much the same if you take your time.

So I applied carefully and hey presto they look pretty good - they almost look like I have done 2 coats. Yet my eyelashes don't stick together, they are still soft and the mascara hasn't dried like concrete on the lashes. Brilliant I thought.

So I have used this for about 11 days and am really happy with it. I tend to have watery eyes in the morning and have been pleased to find when I get on the train and check for unsightly panda eyes they are fine, it has not run at all - which we can only be thankful for. However when you do have a good cry, it runs - you see what I do for my reviews! It does run, but this is not waterproof and it doesn't state that it is. So if you are likely to cry, or go on a log flume don't use it. Day to day - it's brilliant, cheap and comes in black.

I noted that when visiting my local chemist the general price for mascara was between £5 - if you were lucky to £11.

Now for a tester, this is well worth it. If you go for the mascara that is on special and are not loyal to a particular brand, or you need to cut down on spending , but still want to look like you made an effort this is for you.

The Lacura range currently (in my local store) comprises - Face powder, lipstick, mascara and blush.I have used all items (except blush) and have been pleased with the results for only a couple of pounds.

Thanks for reading and rating me !

Summary: Try it - for a couple of pounds you can afford to.
