I have tried a Lancome mascara in the past and loved it, so after Christmas 2011 when I saw a set (including a full-size mascara, Bi-Facil makeup remover and black eyeliner) in the sale at Boots for just over £10 I decided to buy it. The mascara wasn't the same one as I had last time (the Hypnose mascara) but a different kind - Definicils High Definition Lengthening and Separating Mascara. At full price the mascara costs £20.50, so I consider I got a bargain.
The mascara comes in typical Lancome silver packaging: the box lists the ingredients and details information about the product. The tube is black and gold, typical Lancome packaging which is very sophisticated. Unlike the Hypnose tube, which is curved, the Definicils tube is straight and square, reflecting the effect the mascara is supposed to have on the lashes. This mascara is designed to lengthen and separate lashes, with lasting hold and definition.
It is stated that the brush for this mascara is unique and original, with 'horseshoe' shaped bristles. The brush is designed to distribute the mascara formula gradually via a central groove. I can't say I've noticed anything particularly unusual about this brush myself - it seems a straightforward, plain mascara brush with nothing remarkable about it - but the real test is how well it works.
I find this mascara very easy to apply: I can smooth it onto my upper and lower lashes easily, and it dries quickly without smudging. The wand is relatively thin which makes it easy to apply even at the corners of my eyes. The mascara is not waterproof, but doesn't run when my eyes water or when I am out in the rain (a waterproof version of this mascara is also available). However, it is easy enough to remove with eye makeup remover (I prefer the dual-layer products such as Lancome Bi-Facil, or the cheaper Johnson's and Garnier versions). The mascara doesn't flake off at all, and remains on my lashes even after several hours have passed.
I have short, pale eyelashes which make it essential, as far as I am concerned, to wear mascara every day. This mascara makes my lashes look very long and defined, and doesn't clump at all. It is incredibly versatile: one coat is great for a lovely daytime look while an extra coat or two is perfect for the evening.
Overall, I can wholeheartedly recommend this mascara if you want to lengthen and define your eyelashes. It is a bit pricey but I'm sure that Boots will have the gift sets in again in time for Christmas, so you could try and pick one up in the sale afterwards.
I think I've found my favorite mascara of all time. Lancôme Définicils (black) just makes my lashes look really pretty. After applying this, they look beautifully defined. Before I'd tried it, I had doubts about it, because I like my lashes to appear quite noticeable - in a good way - and full with volume, and I was afraid this would give me too natural look. But it turned out I was worrying for nothing.
Or actually, you can go two ways with this, depending on how you apply it. If you don't like your lashes to be too showing, you can apply it very sparingly and get more natural look, but you also CAN get glam eyes with this. I prefer the latter kind. I also like the fact that it doesn't leave those annoying black dots on your upper/lower eyelids as the day goes by. It stays in place pretty well, but it's also easily removed when wanted. No harsh rubbing needed.
I like the tube also. It looks very sophisticated with black and a little bit of gold on it. No silly shapes or colors, so even the most elegant lady can have this in her makeup bag without being embarrassed, hehe. Don't be taken aback by the grayish appearance of the color of the stuff in the brush. Your lashes will look black. And you, who don't like scented mascaras; no worries, this one doesn't have a smell.
Définicils is the mascara I always go back to.
P.S. Don't make the decision of the ability of this mascara on your first try. No mascara ever gives you the best result with the first try.
The very first time I tried Lancome Definicils Mascara, was when I received a mini size as a gift with purchase item. I was slightly disappointed with the product at first because im pretty sure that by the time I tried it, it was expired. Therefore it was clumpy and thick, and seemed heavy on my lashes. But then one day, I noticed the lashes on a friend of mine, which were perfectly defined and lengthened. I asked her if she was using a new mascara and she told me that she swore by Lancome Definicils for lash definition and length as opposed to thicker fanned out lashes.
After hearing her testimony, I was sold, and I ran out the next day to my local department store for this miracle mascara. When I first arrived at the counter I asked for the product and forked out almost $30.00 for the mascara which really hurt my wallet for such a small beauty item. However, I convinced myself that it was worth it and asked the lady for the darkest shade which was black. The mascara came in four shades: blue, brown, deep brown, and black. The black packaging was also nice and sleek, with gold detail and perfect to fit in my purse.
After purchasing the mascara I drove home anticipating the results of my new buy. When I arrived home, I followed my skincare regime as usual, by properly cleansing, toning and moisturizing my face. I then applied the basics of my make-up which are foundation, concealer, bronzer and blush, and then proceeded to apply my new mascara. The applicator wand itself is quite thin and scrawny looking, and I had to take some excess off the brush before applying. I then applied a sweeping stroke to my lashes from root to tip. After one application I already saw that each one of my lashes was perfectly, and precisely defined. I was thrilled, and continued to apply a couple more strokes to each set of lashes before I achieved my desired look.
My lashes were long and perfectly defined, they were hardly clumpy at all and I was very pleased with the results. I was even more pleased once I noticed that the mascara lasted all day without flakes or smudges, and therefore, it is definitely worth it. Even though the price was not the most affordable, I would still treat myself to this mascara every few months. I would recommend it to anyone who wants lash length and definition without clumps.
Lancome are a self proclaimed 'renowned mascara brand' but there are better investments than Definicils if you are considering buying. I have dark lashes of reasonable length, and mascara is one of the products I am always buying. I have to say, I agree with Lancome as to their claim, but not in relation to this product.
The wand is does not enhance curl, or deliver quite enough mascara if you are looking for volume. It's probably effective enough as an everyday product, but if you are looking for thicker, curvier looking lashes try one of the following:
Hypnose: This might take a couple of strokes to impart the desired level of volume, but it's worth it, as it stays reasonably soft, whilst also providing high definition and thicker looking lashes. It will disintegrate throughout the day, so maybe not for someone with easily-irritated eyes. It can be removed with a bit of effort, with either an eye make-up remover, or a suitable facial wash.
L'Extreme: This is my favourite for a real impact - and works really well with the Cils Booster. It curls, lengthens and thickens so ticks most boxes...BUT...it is hard to get off and you'll probably irritate your eyes in the process (plus add to your laughter lines with all that scrubbing!)
Flextencils: I loved this but they blooming discontinued it - all of the benefits of L'Extreme but without the difficulty in getting it off!
Also worth bearing in mind that Lancome and L'Oreal are owned by the same company (as is Maybelline) so it might be worth checking out their products as there may be some of the same product knowledge at a lower price. Or try Estee Lauder's Magnascopic as this is also pretty effective.
When i applied this macara i didnt think i'd be lucky enough to have lashes as gorgeous as the model's on the advert, but i didnt think my lashes would turn out to look so horrible either. Beofre testing i had wiped my eyes clean of any eye makeup and mascara before testing this and even when i applied just one light coat of mascara there were clumps everywhere. The mascara was thick and gunky and clumped all over my lashes, making it look as if spiders had crawled over my eyes and died there. Considering all previous Lancome products i had bought were of brilliant quality and worked well, i found this one to be an execption. It was expensive and didnt work at all.
This is my first op, so it will be a bit rubbish but here goes... I received Lancôme Definicils mascara as part of a Lancome gift set for my birthday, but I have continued to buy a few more tubes, costing around £15 each - if my mum knew I was 'frittering' away money, especially on something as 'useless' as Lancome mascara when there's nothing wrong with Rimmel, she would have a fit, so I lie and tell her it cost £2 on sale from Boots which manages to placate her! This mascara is fantastic. I was pleased with my Maybelline Lash Discovery mascara which costs less than half of this mascara but after trying Definicils out, I am most definitely hooked on it! This doesn't claim to curl your eyelashes or be waterproof, but my stubbornly straight lashes were noticably curlier and more 'lifted' up. I was caught out in the rain and came home panicking, expecting to resemble a panda but I was pleasantly surprised - the damage wasn't too bad, with just faint grey smudges which looked smoky and not at all panda-like! If you're looking to try out a new mascara, then do try this one. Just one coat adds definition to your eyes, curls and volumises eyelashes, and lasts very well. Sure, it may cost more than Maybelline or Rimmel but you are paying for quality here! My only gripe is that the packaging is quite long and bulky, and I couldn't fit into my make-up bag, but still, I wouldn't be without a tube!
Lancome Definicils has to be the best mascara on the market. It is long wearing, non clumping, lenghtens lashes, it's not a waterproof formula but holds up like a waterproof formula. I have to say I have tried a lot of Mascaras and have paid up to €25 for a mascara that have not lived up to their price or name. Lancome is by far the best. I highly recommend it, it's not overpriced but not cheap either but well worth it.
