To set the scene, I have fair, fine, thin hair, and my eyelashes are no exception, so I have been searching for a long time for something to give them some "oomph" and which will also stay on all day without smudging. I rub my eyes quite a lot and I wear contact lenses, so need something that won't irritate me.
I hadn't used Lancôme mascara for a long time, and bought this one purely by chance, when the assistant recommended it to me as I wanted another product in order to get the free gift they were offering at the time. She told me that I would need to use three coats to get the look I wanted, and she was right. (I also use a lash primer underneath my mascara.) My eyelashes do look a lot longer and a bit thicker. The brush is quite thin, and is tapered, which makes it easier to catch those fine lashes in the corners of my eyes.
For staying power, it's hard to beat - no black smudges, and the first time I wore it, I had a bad attack of hay fever, so my eyes were streaming, but Hypnose withstood that.
I usually use baby oil to remove my mascara. The first time I applied it on a cotton wool pad and wiped as usual. I thought I'd got it all off, but realised the next morning, when I'd taken my shower, that there was still some left on. (This was a plus, even though I didn't want it there then.) I don't know how it would fare in a swimming pool though, but then, I've never found a mascara that stood up to that. The second time I tried to remove it, I rested the cotton pad soaked with baby oil on each eye for a little bit longer, and it all came off
All in all, I think it's a good mascara, that's easy to layer without my lashes look clumped together. The RRP is £22 so expensive but it's worth it.
I have used Lancome mascara on and off for many years, initially in sample sizes which I used to get when I bought other Lancome products. When those offers eventually dried up I was initially put off buying Lancome because of the price, but realised after trying other brands that the product was worth the high price tag.
I normally use Definicils, but whilst browsing online I hit upon some reviews of the Hypnose so decided to give it a try.
There are several Hypnose mascara to choose from but I selected this one because it offered volume and perfectly separated lashes and had quite a lot of 5 star reviews.
The packaging is glossy black and gold, quite chunky with an unusually shaped lid which twists off. It is nicely packaged and it is sturdy and will last as long as the product and still look as good, but you would expect that at this price.
The wand and brush is like typical mascara, a straight brush with average size bristles so nothing unusual about this. I was slightly disappointed as I expected something significantly different, given the claims that this delivers 6 times the volume, but then I noticed that there are a lot more bristles than my usual Lancome and an Estee Lauder mascara I have.
What I did notice immediately is how smoothly this goes on to the lashes; it felt really silky and creamy. The brush came out clean with no annoying clumps or hairy bits sticking out and the first coat I applied to top and bottom lashes went on like a dream.
I was a bit worried as some lashes clumped together, but it seemed really easy to separate them and in one coat get a nice set of separated lashes that did look thicker and like I had used eyelash curlers.
When I applied another coat, it went on really easily no dragging on the first coat and the brush combed through my lashes smoothly and the product went on evenly, giving nice thick lashes without a clump in sight.
I definitely noticed a difference in the ease of application and no issues with clumping and because of that it is really easy to apply lots of coats, but one coat looked great and my lashes were thicker than normal. It doesn't seem to dry as quickly as my other mascaras which really makes a difference, particularly in being able to separate lashes.
Apparently this lack of clumping is down to something called SoftSculpt a patented soft wax and the brush which has 1000 sensor bristles
It does not flake off or once dry leave any signs of mascara on your upper lids, but I haven't tested the waterproof part yet.
It has great staying power as it doesn't seem to flake and I love that I have nice evenly coated lashes.
I have been using this for a couple of months and have had no problems with the brush getiing clogged up or the product deteriorating and coming out too thickly. I find with some masacaras after a while I need to wipe the brush with tissue as too much comes out , or there is a big blob of masacar on the end of the brush. That always seems a waste to me , but so far that is not an issue.
I have sensitive eyes that are easily irritated and just like my other Lancome mascara; I have no problems with this one.
I bought this is brown but it is available in black. I like the brown as I think it suits my fair colouring better than black.
Would I recommend?
Absolutely, this does exactly what it promises; it is easy to apply delivers volume and allows you to work the mascara to separate lashes so no clumping. My eyelashes looked much thicker, better defined and a nice curl without needing to use eyelash curlers.
I use eye makeup remover to take off and had no difficulties removing this.
One coat looks great, but you can really build up the lashes so they look like you have false eyelashes with lots of coats and still no clumping - its brilliant! 6 months on and this is still going string but has started getting a bit clumpy.
I have very pale eyelashes so tend to wear it most days as people ask me if I am Ok when I don't wear a mascara .This has lasted 6 months and is still going strong probably because I normally only apply one coat during the day.
I think it is amazing and well worth the price.
5 stars from me
Lancome is on sale at most department stores, Debenhams House of Fraser Boots and online from Lancome.
It retails at £21, but I buy from Debenhams when they have a 10% offer on as I don't like paying full price for anything. It is pricy but worth it in my opinion, particularly the lack of clumping and the ease of application. Plus one coat looks like several coats of my other mascara.
I suffer from sensitive skin and it seems my eyes are no different. I have used a number of different mascaras which have often left me with itchy, blotchy, watering eyes. I would like to note that these mascaras were suited to sensitive eyes. I have quite short lashes so need something to help my eyes stand out and I think mascara always makes you feel and look good. When it was suggested that I try this mascara I was a little dubious but with a little persuasion before going out one night I tried it.
When I applied the mascara it was quiet smooth and not at all clumpy. The brush does give the impression that the mascara will not apply evenly but I was quickly proven that I should not jugde something without trying it. The coverage was even and light. I did not feel as if my eyelashes were covered in a heavy substance in fact the mascara was quiet nice to wear. I only need one coat and that made my eyelashes look longer and fuller.
The most important thing for me was that the mascara was very gentle on my sensitive eyes. There was no itching or eye watering. Another important factor is that the mascara was easy to remove. I would recommend using lancome make up remover as it too is very gentle on the eye area.
Lancome hypnose waterproof mascara is now a must in my make up bag and I would highly recommend to everyone.
Mascara has been made to enhance the eyes lashes giving them volume and attracting people to look at the eyes, after all the eyes are the windows to the soul and finding a good mascara is more difficult than it seems.
Some just dont do what they advertise or they clump the lashes together when its dry, or they wear off quickly and leave the eyes looking like you have had a bad nights sleep.
A girl can spends a fortune trying to find the right one.
Lancome Hypnose Waterproof Mascara is a really good choice of mascara's to buy if you have been looking for one that works well.
This mascara can be bought at John Lewis and on Amazon for £20 - £29 but if you are like me and love to bargain hunt, then you can buy it from www.easycosmetics.co.uk for £9.99 which is a great saving.
The mascara comes in a chunky black stick with the mascara brush fitted into the lid, it collects the mascara from the tube when you pull the lid out of the stick, so that all you have to do is gently apply it to your eyelashes.
Applying upward ansd downward strokes and build up the layers of mascara until you have the look you are wanting, some like to have thick layers so the eyelashes really stand out whilst others just like a little on to enhance and make the eyes look more attractive.
This mascara boasts that it thickens the eyelashes up to six times and there is a definate difference to the look of the eyelashes when you have applied it. It gives volume and separates the lashes.
It is easy to apply and there is no dotting left under the eyelashes and it doesn't clump them together making you look like a panda.
I like the mascara as it is waterproof, but having said that and no mascara I have ever worn can withstand a good weepy girlie film, so be careful if your going out on a date to a weepy movie, as you will need to take a tissue with you and reapply.
For going out in the rain it's adequate and won't run down your face.
The brush head of the applicator is a good size and not to chunky or to thin and is easily managed when applyin the mascara, it isn't too chunky so that you poke yourself in the eye and is delicate enought so that you can gentley apply whatever amount you like to get the look your after.
If your looking for a good long lasting mascara then this one is what I would be happy to recommend, especially now that I have found it online for almost half the price of the shops.
As I was afraid I may ruin my ice-maiden composure by crying on my wedding day, I decided to invest in a decent waterproof mascara for damage limitation if nothing else.
After reading several reviews and checking out options, one of the names that was mentioned lots and regarded highly was Lancome Hypnose, so i decided to go for that and had great confidence in its ability to deliver.
The mascara costs around £20 which is obviously a lot, but I saved a few pounds by picking mine up in the duty free along with most of my other wedding make-up. Every penny helps and all that!
The mascara is stylishly presented in a slim, sleek black tube with classy gold writing and a blue line between the wand and the tube itself. Once opened the product sticks nicely to the brush and is neither clumpy nor watery. The brush has quite wide set but small bristles, so requires a degree of precision.
On the big day I applied this carefully by individually painting each lash as much as possible and leaving to dry before applying a second coat. The effect was stunning and my spindly, brittle lashes looked long, luscious and glossy with each lash seperated nicely, adding to the dramatic effect.
I walked down the aisle, said my vows and ate my cake without shedding a single tear so the waterproof element was not needed in the end, however I have used this product since on rainy days and can confirm it does not run or smudge and is the most effective waterproof mascara I have ever used. Once applied it works well and has great staying power with no re-application necessary.
Unfortunately there are some downsides which I will point out now. Firstly I am one of those people that keeps expensive, luxury cosmetics for 'special occasions' and sadly this mascara did not last too long compared to some others I have used in the past. I know mascaras don't have a long shelf life, but I usually get my moneys worth. With this one, several months of non-use had dried the product out somewhat and while it still produced the same effects it was more effort to apply.
But this would not be a problem for somebody that used it regularly.
Another issue is the staying power. While I expect a waterproof mascara to hold its own and therefore be more difficult to remove, this one sticks to lashes like glue and takes a lot of scrubbing with a good eye make-up remover before it finally budges. This is tiresome and hard work but at least it proves how well it works as a waterproof mascara!
All in all it is a brilliant product though and certainly instills confidence, especially in those moments where only a waterproof mascara will do. This one certainly does its job well but is a bit of a splurge if, like me, you only need it for one special day.
Mascara means alot to me. Its the one beauty item that I cannot live without so its very important that I use a mascara that I love and this my friends is it. I have been there and tried that in the mascara world and I have now found my life long partner and one I can't be without: Lancome Hypnose Waterproof Mascara .
This mascara is really worth committing too. Its on the higher end of the mascara market retailing at over £20.00 but worth the buy. It has an easy applicator wand and the consistency is just right, not too thin and too 'gloopy' Lancome Hypnose Waterproof Mascara gives really thick lashes and lengthens them at the same time without leaving that spidery effect that I really dislike.
Lancome Hypnose Waterproof Mascara works as to seperate every lash and create a really astonishing look that makes you stand out from the crowd! For a more dramatic effect you can apply more layers and gives the lashes a more defined and sculptured look.
You only need to use a small amount and not put the wand in the mascara too many times otherwise too much goes onto the lashes.
The design of the mascara is really nice too, sleek black with gold coloured writing and the blue rim to indicate the waterproof element, it looks very snazzy in my make up bag!
The one drawback of this mascara is the fact that it can be quite difficult to get off being waterproof you do need to use a really good eye make remover. If this is a problem for you though you can always just buy the non-waterproof version. It really is one of the better waterproof mascaras though hence why its harder to remove, I have cried buckets wearing this and it has not moved an inch!
I was at the make-up counters at Boots the other day (as I always seem to be lately) when the assistant at the Lancome one asked me if I'd like to try their Hypnose mascara, I was so impressed with the result that I decided I couldn't be bothered with my old Urban Decay mascara and I might as well just buy this one there and then.
She had applied it over the mascara that I was already wearing, so I was interested to see how it would perform on it's own. On opening it, I found that the brush was a good size, large enough to cover a decent amount of lashes in one go, but not too large that it makes it cumbersome. So I curled my lashes and swept it on and I have to say that I was very impressed with the result, my eyelashes looked absolutely huge! Because the formula dried so quickly I found I didn't even have to re-curl the lashes after application and, if I did, then my eyelashes stayed in place without drooping at all. The product claims to stay for 12 hours and I'd really say that it does live up to that claim, I didn't have to re-curl my lashes or apply any more coats of mascara all day, they just stayed looking as they had done when I had first done my make up.
There were a couple of problems with this mascara however, first, you have to be very careful when applying it that you don't put too much on as this seems quite easy with the brush, and you really don't want to end up with spidery lashes. Secondly, I found it very difficult to get off, you have to make sure you have a decent waterproof make up remover and just take a little more time than you would with other mascaras. Lastly, it cost me £20 from Boots, but I definitely think it's worth it, this is the best mascara I've ever used!
I have been a fan of Lancome's mascara range for over twenty years. In fact my all-time favourite is produced by this company. Even when I experiment with other manufacturers I always gravitate back to the Lancome counter. So when I tried out Hypnose Waterproof, now an established classic in the Lancome stable, I expected to be as impressed as ever.
I couldn't wait to get it home to experiment. As I twisted the cap and withdrew the wand from the curvy, tactile and easy-to-grip tube the first thing I noticed was the odd smell - quite strong and rather inky. I found it difficult to apply without it clumping. The promise of lashes which could be - in the company's words - "up to six times thicker and perfectly separated" just did not materialise. Oh my lashes were thicker, all right, but definitely not separated. I must say the effect was quite dramatic but the appearance was just too unnatural for me, not sufficiently groomed. I also noticed that the rim of the tube started to "cake" within days of opening it. Additionally, even with a good quality eye make up remover it was quite stubborn to remove and difficult to achieve complete cleansing.
So, does this experience deter me from trying out other Lancome mascaras? Well, no because other lines in their range perform superbly. And I would stress that I tried the waterproof version, the ordinary Hypnose may apply and wear differently. Nonetheless, Hypnose Waterproof Mascara is not the one for me - and definitely not at the asking price. (RRP: £19.50)
