This review is about the Juicy Tube "Toffee R'n'B" - I hope you enjoy!
~~Lancôme Juicy Tubes - 93 Toffee R'n'B~~
Here I am reviewing a product which I would class as an 'essential luxury'. I know that may sound a little strange, but I am going to attempt to explain what I think of this lip gloss in my review.
~*About The Juicy Tubes*~
Lancôme's Juicy Tubes are iconic in the world of upmarket makeup cosmetics. They are, apparently, the original 'must-have' lip gloss which showed every girl the importance of gorgeously glossed lips. This year is their tenth birthday, and they come in a range of different colours and scents.
Being Lancôme, they are very high class and prestigious (read: pricey!) and marketed as an 'ultra shiny hydrating lip gloss'. Whilst I wouldn't disagree with that, I sometimes wonder if they deserve all the hype they get for being part of such a well known brand with such a good reputation. They are marketed at all types of women, with their wide variety of glosses, and, as long as you like gloss and glamour, you are bound to find one you like!
~*Why Toffee R'n'B For Me?*~
I actually received a set of four miniature Juicy Tubes for Christmas, in a limited edition best sellers set. They are no longer available, but I expect they will bring out another variation of the set over the Christmas period. The four included in the set were Lychee, Fraise, Marshmallow Electro and this one, Toffee R'n'B. The set was really great value - £12.50 (from Boots) for four 7ml tubes. So, keep your eyes peeled for this next Christmas!
An 18 millilitre tube of Toffee R'n'B is available for the Lancôme counter at Boots all year round. It costs £14 (or 1,400 points off your Advantage Card!). You will receive 56 points on your Boots Advantage Card when purchasing this, unless it gets put on any special offer! This is ridiculously expensive in my opinion.
But, anyway, back to why I chose Toffee R'n'B. It stood out to me in the set as it was so different to the rest with its inviting caramel coloured gloss (the others were all various shades of pink) and the name was intriguing me too. But the main reason this first caught my attention was when I unscrewed the lid and smelt it. I have never, ever in my life smelt such a delicious lip gloss! It smelt of rich, indulgent toffee, and was absolutely delicious!
So, although I didn't go out of my way to purchase Toffee R'n'B, I am very glad I was given it!
Juicy Tubes aren't anything special, unlike the Dior lip gloss I have tried which had a fancy metal screw with a 'D' on it and hard glass casing (sadly the actual gloss didn't live up to the prestigious packaging) it is plain and much like an ordinary lip gloss.
The tube is made of plastic and is the typical long, thin shape with a wider end and thin top. Thanks to the rounded lid, it doesn't stand either (not that that really matters!!). The plastic is clear so you can easily see the colour of the gloss and how much you have left. It does, however make the writing printed on the gloss extremely hard to read, as the text is gold on the front and white on the back, so once the gloss starts running out it is impossible to read the white text. On the front it simply reads 'Lancôme Juicy Tube', with no indication as to which flavour gloss it is.
On the back there is the minimum amount of information too, nothing really important, just what it is, a contact address, where it was made (Spain) etcetera...
So, the packaging leaves a lot to be desired, in my opinion. As it is such an expensive gloss I would like to see a fancy gloss case, as I am spending such a lot of money on it. I think Lancôme should take a leaf out of Dior's book on the presentation front and consider redesigning the packaging on their product.
The gloss is thick and rich, Toffee R'n'B is a wonderful light brown, caramel colour with ripples of lighter gloss swirling through. It also is slightly glittery, although you cannot really see the glitter when you apply it, it is there more to reflect the light than anything else.
As I have mentioned, the gloss is very thick, possibly a little too thick, and doesn't glide on to my lips as well as I would like it to. It seems a little sticky and gooey and needs a lot of smacking-together and pressing.
However, after you have applied the gloss and rubbed your lips together a little, the stickyness goes away and you are left with perfectly shiny lips!
When applying this gloss, I would always recommend using some lip butter (I personally use The Body Shop's Pink Grapefruit Lip Butter) to fill in any cracks and give yourself an even 'base' to work from. This gives me a lovely finish - shiny, clear-caramel (if you get what I mean!) coloured lips.
Because of it's a transparent gloss with a hint of colour colour, it also works well over a pale pink or similarly coloured lipstick. I have worn it over a lipstick to give a glossy finish, or by itself for lush, pouty, glossy lips. Both ways work brilliantly.
The longevity of this gloss lasts for ages, as it is so thick. A little goes a long way, too, and it is handy to have in your make up bag.
For me, the smell was the greatest thing about this lip gloss - it was just delicious! I felt I was piling on the pounds just sniffing it!
I suppose there is not much else I can say about this lip gloss, so I will just round it up...
~*So, To Sum It Up...*~
Yes, they are raved about by everyone. Yes, Toffee R'n'B smells absolutely divine. Yes, it's really, really glossy. But it's also really, really expensive. I'm sure you can find glosses as good or perhaps better on the market for a much cheaper price, but for a little treat I'd definitely recommend it.
~*Doesn't Sound Like Your Kind Of Thing?*~
If you like the sound of the glosses, but not the colour or the scent (you're mad!), there is a massive range of these Juicy Tubes - just head to your nearest Lancôme counter and take a look - you're bound to find one that suits you!
Summary: If you are willing to spend this much on a lipgloss, it is a good choice! x
