      a lovely palette

      I was initially introduced to Laura Geller make-up a couple of years ago on QVC, I purchased a kit that was a 'Todays Special Value' and fell in love. 'Todays Special Value' for those of you that don't know is basically the deal of the day, it runs for 24 hours from midnight.

      This particular palette was in a set I got this this Christmas called the '5 piece fresh brewed baked beauty collection'. I like having the whole collection, all the products together really flow well.

      * this hybrid baked pressed palette features flattering, ultra wearable stripes of creamy latte, warm mocha and dark roast eyeshadow shades.

      * Each product in the Baked Collection starts as a swirl of liquid and colour-corrective pigments. This is poured into terracotta pans and baked for 24 hours. The result is an extremely fine powder that's silky smooth to the touch, with a dewy fresh look that adapts perfectly to each individual complexion. All are made in Italy and suitable for every skin tone and type.

      The three shades in this palette used together are so pretty! The first colour is the lightest which I use to sweep all over the lip, the second I use in the socket and the third I generally use as a liner but there are no rules! This palette is versatile so you can try different looks and see what works for you. It goes on silky smooth, lasts all day without creasing and is everything I could want from an eyeshadow! The colours are very pigmented but you also have the option of adding water to them for a more dramatic evening look, I've never tried this but plan to eventually. I love the fact you have that option, much more fun than normal eyeshadows. The shades are completely matte, I normally go for shimmer but I loved the matte effect! I found it was a very flattering look, my eyes looked brighter and stood out more! LOVE IT!

      Packaging doesn't normally bother me too much, I just get what I'm given if that makes sense...but I did find this super practical! I loved the lid, it's split into two halves, one half is clear so you can see which palette your picking up, and the other half is a mirror when you open it up, I thought that was a really clever idea. The packaging is also very solid and hard-wearing.

      Well as this was a present and I received the whole kit but I've looked on QVC and I see this retails at £24.50 and contains 6.5g. As with a lot of things on QVC it's sometimes better value to buy things in sets, the 5 piece set I received is available for £42.50 and I would highly recommend everything that comes in it! I would definately repurchase this, it's gorgeous and such fab quality and lasts a long time to!

      Expensive but worth it.

      My first introduction to Laura Geller, both the person and the makeup range, was through Q.V.C. the home shopping channel. I'm home alone all day so I make the most of having the remote to myself and have a good old flick up and down the channels, hence me dropping in on one of Laura's presentations just before Christmastime.

      ~~~ About Laura Geller ~~~
      Laura is a leading makeup artist and her work features on Primetime TV channels in America. In 1993, she opened the self-titled Laura Geller Makeup Studios on New York City's posh Upper East Side. The Studio's purpose was simple: to teach women the art of makeup application so you can get the same results at home. I believe in this she has succeeded, and this review discusses my thoughts about the Baked ImPRESSions Eye Palette, just one product in her extensive range.
      ~~~ My Purchase ~~~

      I purchased a whole range of Laura Geller products at the same time, in what is known as a T.S.V. (Today's Special Value). This provided me with a quantity of makeup items put together with the aim of taking the guesswork out of the purchasing process. I'm not good with makeup, I'm not sure what suits and what doesn't and what goes with what; I just want something that's quick, easy and comfortable upon my skin. Having this collection all based in neutral tones meant that they would be suitable for a light day makeup, and could be varied in intensity and application, and be made to look more dramatic if I wanted. Having the neutral tones, meant too that it I wouldn't have to replace it as I would if it were a fashion colour; neutrals transcend the seasons year after year. Another reason for my purchase though, and probably the main one at the time, was that T.S.V.'s are usually a bit of a bargain; and by buying this set, I in effect only paid for the foundation in my previous review, and got this, and a further three full sized products free. You can't beat a good bargain. :)

      ~~~ Natural is best ~~~
      Although my previous review mentions that I've only recently became a wearer of foundation, I've always worn a limited range of makeup, mainly mascara and a slick of lip gloss for day to day use. I prefer a natural look and require my makeup to enhance what I've been given rather than mask the real me. I use eye shadows and blush on special occasions in order just to feel that little bit more glamorous.
      This too is a natural product but it's an even more innovative product than the aforementioned foundation. This is from a new generation of Laura's Baked range of products. It's a hybrid between baked and pressed, and takes twice the time as the original baked collection to produce. This gives extended wear and versatility, formulas that can be used dry for long lasting pigment true colour, or wet to create a more dramatic look when needed.
      ~~~ Baked ImPRESSions Eye Palette ~~~

      This baked eye shadow comes in a solid compact form, and was produced by artisans in Italy who only use the finest local ingredients and rich pigments from the earth. The 48 hour process begins as mineralised pigments are micronized and sifted into a finely milled powder, and then baked. Finally these ultra-smooth powders are infused with skin loving ingredients and Arabica extract and Caffeine, and are finally pressed into their compacts for portability.

      ~~~ Cost ~~~
      I originally bought this as part of a set with other products, but this 6.5 gram product is also available to purchase individually both from www.qvcuk.com at a cost of £27.50 including postage and packing, or Laura's own website (www.laurageller.com) direct at $30 and free shipping. I'm unsure what the conversion rates are at the point of writing this review but it wouldn't be too difficult to find out. It is worth noting that although the 'Today's Special Offer' has ended, being for a 24 hour period only, you can still buy the 'Fresh Brewed Baked Beauty' collection from QVC for £46.50 meaning you're still only paying for less than two full sized products and receiving five.
      ~~~ The Product ~~~

      The black compact looks quite modern with half of it featuring the white Laura Geller branding, and Lulu Guiness-esque red lips. The other half is see through, so you can easily glance and know what product it is, and how much you have left, without having to root around in your makeup bag. Nothing impressive there you may think, but when you open the lid, the half of the lid that featured the branding, contains a semi-circular mirror. With other compacts you either get the see through lid OR the mirror inside, but with this you get the best of both worlds. I love it, every little detail has been thought about.

      ~~~ The Eye shadow ~~~
      The product inside is mineral oil-free, paraben free, and loaded with skin loving anti-oxidants and caffeine to reduce puffiness in the eye area. Following the coffee theme, upon opening the product you will see a disk of eye shadow, with the shape of espresso beans impressed into it. There are three colours in this palette to choose from, to be worn either singularly or blended together. Creamy Latte is as you would expect, a lovely pale creamy beige neutral colour, perfect for highlighting the brow and lid areas or just simply on its own to give your eyes a more wide awake look. Warm Mocha is the mid tone, and reminds me of a brick but with less of an orange tone to it; it's earthier for want of a better word. Dark Roast is exactly that, it's a true coffee bean colour, espresso brown bordering on black, this is the go to colour if you wanted add a dramatic look and a smokiness to your eyes.
      ~~~ Application ~~~

      Application is simplicity itself, just use them as you would any other eye shadow. They are so soft and silky, they blend beautifully. The pigments are true, there's absolutely no loss in colour intensity while on the skin. I've found the ability to use them both wet and dry has meant that it can be used in other ways, not just as an eye shadow - I've often dipped a fine brush in a little water, and used the dark roast colour as a brown eye liner. This multifunctionality has even saved me some money but not having to go out and buying further products.

      ~~~ The Results ~~~
      The coverage is perfect; it doesn't sit in the fine lines and creases around my eyes. It sits where I put it, and doesn't creep down my face like other eye shadows I used to use (particularly Avon's, they were the worst offender), and has a lovely longevity. I can't say that the addition of caffeine has made any difference in reducing puffiness, but as I don't wear this often enough, I probably wouldn't; I don't suffer from particularly puffy eyes in any case. Now my sister on the other hand is a different story, I wonder if she'd like some of this for Christmas. Oops. :)
      The matt finish upon my skin is wonderfully soft and almost silky. There are absolutely no hints of sparkle to this eye shadow. At my age I don't want to look like a teenager, and let's face it, I don't want glitter gathering in my laughter lines (aka wrinkles) screaming 'Look at me!' either. My eyes are left with a natural feel and look. I love that it feels weightless and my eyes don't get that horrible tired, droopy feeling; so the caffeine addition must have at least some effect.
      ~~~ Removal ~~~

      This product is so natural that it doesn't have any unwanted effects upon my skin. I've never experienced any sort of break outs or dryness from this product. It doesn't clog the pores, it simply sits like a veil upon the delicate skin of my eye area; it's so easy to remove, I usually take a cleansing wipe, and after a quick sweep it's gone.

      ~~~ My Thoughts ~~~
      This eye shadow has quickly become my 'go to' product when I want to feel all glammed up. So much so, that I've thrown out every other eye shadow. This is the one for me, and the only one I need. I don't wear a 'full makeup' every day, but I do like to make the effort at the weekend, and definitely on special occasions. I love the fact that this is so versatile, I can have a barely there, natural look to my eye if I wanted, and a full on drama just by changing the method of application. I also love that it has no nasties in there and is absolutely stuffed with good stuff. I'm still going to award the full five Dooyoo stars despite the price, (buy it in the kit, it's a bargain then). I love it and I hope you do too.
