Laura Mercier Lip Liner/Pencil: Shade natural lips
I have had this lip liner for about a year now; as I received this pencil in a gift set that I bought in the Christmas sales a year ago. The gift set, in which this was included, was the first Laura Mercier products I bought and they have been a bit hit-and-miss for me unfortunately.
- Product description (from Laura Mercier US website)
"Laura Mercier Lip Pencil is a perfectly textured lip pencil designed to outline, define and enhance the natural shape of the lip. Firm enough to draw a precise thin line, yet soft enough to blend the creamy formula glides on smoothly and comfortably."
- About the product
The packaging for this product is one of my favourite things about this product; the packaging looks really sleek and expensive. The packaging is dark grey and it has shimmer on the outside of the pencil. The shade is indicated on the end of the pencil and it does match the shade of the pencil, although the shade on my lips/skin does not look anything like the colour of the pencil or swatch on the packaging. There is 1.2g or 0.04 oz of product in each pencil.
- Shade: Natural lips
The shade I have is 'natural lips' and it is not a shade I would have picked out, but it was included in the set. The shade is described as a 'natural brown beige' on the Laura Mercier website. I would agree with the shade description but on my lips this shade appears to be a tan beige colour, there is not enough brown in this shade for me. The shade is quite nice and neutral but on my lips it just does not look amazing and I don't think that the tan shade of this lip liner looks good against my fairly pale skin tone. Due to the more beige tones of this lip liner I do not like it that much but it is ok otherwise.
- Application and results
I apply a lip balm after any lip liner I use as otherwise the lip balm will make the lip liner more subtle or harder to apply. The lip liner is really smooth and soft on the skin but it is not as creamy as other lip liners I have such as my 17 lip liner in the shade Mocha or my Dior lip pencil in the shade linen 513. The application of this lip liner is fairly good because the texture of the lip liner is really smooth and soft. I just line my lips to start with, I do not go over the edges of my natural lip line, then I fill in my lips with this lip liner. This product is easy to apply and it has really good pigmentation. Although this product does leave my lips looking very matte and it also emphasise dryness. Therefore I apply a lip balm after the application of this product; I apply the lip balm with a lip brush as if I applied it directly to my lips the lip balm would take on the colour of the lip liner. After a lip balm has been applied the lip liner does not look as matte and my lips do not look as dry. The results of this product are not very impressive, in my opinion, as this shade look awful against my pale skin tone - this shade is far too brown/beige on my skin and it does not look flattering. I think this shade is more suited to darker skin tones such as olive or tanned skin tones. This product also emphasise dryness which even with a lip balm over the top does not reduce that much. Overall I am really quite disappointed with this product and I would rate it 2/5.
- Price and availability
This lip liner was included with a Laura Mercier palette I purchased from the Space nk UK website. The palette and this product were priced at £25 on sale from £55. The palette and this product on the whole was a great deal/offer but this lip liner on its own is priced at about £14 which is expensive in my opinion, especially when considering the average quality of this product, in my opinion. This lip liner and the other shades it is available in can be purchased from Nordstrom (an American store which now ships to the UK), Sephora (again an American store but there are many Sephora stores around Europe - although not in England as far as I am aware) and you may be able to find this product on eBay.
*Smooth, soft texture and good pigmentation
*Expensive and not widely available (in the UK)
*Shade is too terracotta/beige for my pale skin tone
*Emphasises even slight dryness
*Slightly patchy application
