      Advantages

      Disadvantages

Nice enough, I will probably buy more Leighton Denny in the future

A high performance nail colour in the shade "Message in a Bottle" was mine in the February Birch Box. I was pleased for two reasons: firstly I had seen Leighton Denny on QVC and liked the look of his products and secondly, I actually loved the shade, a greige nude beigey grey colour with a pearl shine to it too.

      In use
Within five minutes of the Birch Box being opened, I had painted all ten nails in Message in a Bottle as I already had a base coat on my nail. I did not apply a top coat which was my main mistake. The shade was wonderful but over the next 24 hours I watched as my nails began to chip at the edges. I was bed bound with illness at the time so not doing damaging tasks like the washing up with my hands!

      My thoughts
I was disappointed with the first attempt but when I renewed and added a top coat it lasted a lot longer, I'm pleased to say. The nail varnish itself was a joy to apply, the brush stroked the colour on quickly and easily and the drying time was fast so no tacky nails to contend with soon after.

      Price
A bottle of this costs £11 full price but the sets on QVC seem to be better value. I would not pay £11 for a single bottle of Leighton Denny although I have paid £12 for Nails inc a few times (ahem).

      Final word
I love the colour and I also love the hidden depth the pearl shimmer adds to this nail colour which could be quite boring otherwise although a neutral colour is not to be sniffed at. People commented on this nail colour straight away (once I left my bed!) and said how nice it was so I know it's probably quite a popular shade. I will wear it again and again so for me it was a top item to receive in my Birchbox.

      Disadvantages

A nice varnish but perhaps a little too expensive.

I received a full sized Leighton Denny high performance nail varnish in one of my first glossy boxes (reviewed). I'm not normally a nail varnish type of girl but I decided, since it was free, it was worth a try as it is a brand which tends to be quite expensive.

The nail varnish comes in a fairly standard rectangular shaped glass bottle. It has a cylindrical clear plastic lid which has a interior piece of silver material which create a further cylindrical shape set within the lid. The overall look of it is very modern and stylish. It manages to look both classic and also modern because of the simplicity of the design and colour scheme. This kind of look definitely reads luxurious and expensive which is a good thing if you are paying the price for it.

There are an absolute world of colours but mine came in a rather brash looking orange colour called juicy fruity. I didn't love the colour immediately but it is very summery so I thought I'd use it while on holiday as orange looks better with a tan. The nail varnish has a slight sheen to it as there are teeny tiny pigments of glitter in the varnish. I personally prefer a matte finish because I think it looks cleaner but with orange I thought it might be better for it to be slightly shiny.

The varnish itself is a nice consistency, not overly thick or thin. It goes on really smoothly and looks very clean once applied. I have used it a few times and haven't found it has clogged up at all or become sticky or thick. The colour doesn't come out quite as punchy, though it gets stronger with more applications, and this is a good thing from my perspective as I thought the colour was a little bright.

The varnish lasted on my nails for around a week before it started to chip etc. I think this is pretty good though I don't wear nail varnish all that often so I could be wrong. I found it pretty durable though and the more coats you apply the stronger it becomes which is really good.

These varnishes cost roughly £8-£11 from online retailers which in relation to other high end varnishes isn't too bad a price. I personally think I wouldn't bother to shell out for one of these simply because I don't use nail varnishes enough for the quality to be all that much of an issue. If you are a regular user though I would recommend this on the basis that it is pretty good quality and very durable.

Overall, a decent nail varnish but only a good investment if you paint your nails a lot.
