Benefit Ultra Shines Lip Shine
by sparkle1004
I don't particularly like wearing lip stick but my lips look so pale and boring without anything on them. Luckily I am a big fan of the old lip glosses and even though I have plenty of them, there is always room for more. I love Benefit and all of their product and so I purchased the Ultra Shine Lip Shine.
What does the ... product do?
The product is essentially a lip gloss which promises to give the lips a lovely splash of colour with a beautiful shiny finish. It claims that it doesn't have the stickiness that is often associated with lip glosses and that it is 'loaded with crystal brilliance'. It comes with a silky brush which promises to allow you to quickly, accurately and easily apply the product leaving you will lips which shimmer and glimmer.
How do you apply the product?
The lip gloss is to swept onto the lips. It can be worn over a lipstick or alone. It is best applied to lips which are in a good condition so you need to use a balm regularly so that it doesn't highlight any dryness or flakiness.
Shades
Each shade comes with a cute and lovely name, and I wouldn't expect anything less from Benefit. They have names like Spiked Punch, Back to the Fuchsia, Wild Child and Dancing Queen. They comes in a range of shades that are many pinks, corals and nudes so there's nothing too out there and some of them include a sparkle which others don't. I chose back to the fuchsia which is unsuprisingly a fuchsia pink shade which has lovely bits of shimmer in it.
Packaging and Price
The product comes in a lovely black and white box and the lip gloss itself is contained within a circular tube through which you can see the product inside. It has some black swirls on the tube itself and a black band across the top. You unscrew the lid and find the application wand inside. It has a clear stick and the applicator is a brush rather than the usual sponge that you find with lip glosses. The length of the brush is really short. Each of these lovely glosses will set you back around £14. They can be bought from department stores which have a Benefit counter such as Boots and Debenhams, as well as from a range of online websites.
Application and Performance
The product looks lovely and expensive so I don't mind being seen using the product in public. When you unscrew the lid, you will notice straight away that the product has quite a strong aroma for a lip gloss but it is a lovely fruity and sugary one. It may be too strong and sickly for some as you apply the product directly beneath the nose but I really like it. Even if it's not up your street, the aroma does fade away shortly after application. It doesn't really have a taste at all which is a good thing as it stops from being tempted to lick it all back off again.
The short length of the brush really does make it easy to accurately apply the product without you having to worry about getting it on the skin. The product is silky on soft and it feels really nice on the lips. A good amount of the product comes out on the brush and the lip gloss has a thick consistency. The product does glide easily on the lips without pulling or dragging on the skin. It feels completely comfortable on the lips and although it is a bit sticky, it is probably one of the least sticky and tacky glosses that I have ever used.
The shade which I bought is actually quite sheer but I like this in a lip gloss. It does add a bit of colour to my lips making them pretty and pink but it isn't over the top or in your face. It does however add a lovely glassy finish the lips leaving them looking beautifully shiny and glossy. The shade that I chose always has a bit of shimmer included so it has a lovely glittery effect which is not like a disco ball or childish in anyway. The lip gloss is suitable for both night and day wear. The gloss has quite long lasting results and will stay put for about three hours, even when eating and drinking. Reapplication is easy and quick, even without a mirror. The product isn't drying on the lips and they still feel soft and in a good condition even after it has been removed.
Conclusion
All in all, this is a lovely lip gloss which gives my lips a lick of pretty colour and has a beautiful shiny and glassy finish. Mine comes with a subtle shimmer which makes the lips look lovely. It has a fruity aroma and no taste, and has the least sticky finish out of the lip glosses I have used. It sticks around for quite a few hours and when it has gone the lips are still left feeling soft and looking healthy. Read the complete review |

Illamasqua Intense Lipgloss
by TukTukTuk
INTRODUCTION
This lipgloss was included in my Glossybox, which I received one year ago.I didnt know the brand Illamasqua before, but I was really exited when I got an original sized product. Unfortunately, the color which I received is an orange-red. Illamasqua is well known for its unusual colors, I was lucky because other ... people got a black or green lipgloss. Anyway, I dont want to discuss the color just the quality. You can buy this lipgloss in many diffrent shades, the price is approx. 15 Pounds. It can be bought from Amazon, Ebay or on ther website.
THE PRODUCT AND MY OPINION
Illamasqua is a relatively unknown brand. Illamasqua produces high quality cosmetics that are very intense in their colors.
I rarely wear lip gloss, just because I dont like the sticky layer on my lips. The lip gloss has a very, very thick consistency. To apply it I have to squeeze the tube a little bit. The applicator is slightly beveled, but the application of lip gloss is pretty difficult. The applicator glides hard on the lips and through the thick consistency and intense color you have to be very careful when you apply it.
After application, the result looks pretty good. The lips are intensely colored and shiny. The color is long lasting, I would say at least 3 hours. However, the lipgloss feels quite sticky on the lips, this is something I do not like. I have tried around a bit and apply a lipstick on my lips before I apply the gloss. I really like this product, but it's certainly not for everyday use. I like the concept of Illamasqua and the good quality.
I rate this lipgloss with 4 Dooyoo stars. Read the complete review |

E.L.F Minty Lip Gloss

My holy primer
~~~~~~~~~~
One of my holy grail cheapo beauty products are the ELF eye primer, which are great at keeping my eyeshadow where it should be without creases - and coming in at a mere £1.50, they are a great bargain too. And when I was stocking up recently, I couldn't resist getting a few other little ... bargains while I was at it!
ELF stands for Eyes Lips Face, and is an American company that is also based in the UK, but is online only, which helps them keep their prices low. Lots of products cost just £1.50, but there are a few more 'expensive' ranges, and this lip gloss usually costs £3.75, but is currently in the ELF spring sale for just £2. I do like my lip glosses so I decided to try this one out while it was on offer.
Shiny lips and fresh breath!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This lip gloss is available in five colours, and according to the website, the "sheer glossy colour conditions lips with a minty fresh taste". It can be worn with other lip products (I guess you could layer it over a lipstick) and it is said to "give your lips a beautiful sheen and freshen your breath".
The lip gloss comes in a tube with a screwtop lid, on the end of which is a sponge tipped applicator. The gloss itself also comes in a box - a bit of unnecessary packaging in my opinion but there you go!

Miami nice
~~~~~~~
The first thing I noticed when I applied the gloss was that the applicator has a bit of a scratchy feel where the sponge meets the plastic! So I have to be a bit wary when applying this that I don't scratch my lips. The sponge is also quite firm, and not as soft and delicate as other glosses I have tried in this format.
The colour I purchased is called Miami, and on the website has a very neutral, kind of golden caramel look to it. In the picture it is also made to appear slightly shimmery. In the flesh, the gloss is indeed pretty much as it appears on the website - a slightly darker shade perhaps, although it doesn't look particularly shimmery.
The mintiness of this gloss is a bit disconcerting at first as it is quite unusual for a lip gloss not to taste fruity or of nothing! But actually I quite liked this - I wasn't sure I would so this came as a pleasant surprise! It is quite a sweet minty flavour, and I have seen other reviewers that haven't liked it but it isn't really a problem for me. The gloss itself goes on quite thickly, and this definitely isn't the kind of lip gloss I would apply without a mirror, as you need to make sure it is applied fairly thinly - otherwise the colour could appear uneven or a bit gloopy.
But applied thinly this gives lips a nice sheen - it is a very subtle shade indeed which I like, as I don't like strong colours on my lips. It feels slightly sticky on the lips, but it isn't unpleasant and I think it actually has really good staying power - I can still feel this on my lips, and even taste it slightly, several hours after applying it. But the colour does fade, and although I can feel this on my lips, I can't really see it! However I did choose a very subtle shade so this may explain it.
~~~~~~~~
In summary
~~~~~~~~
Overall I do quite like this lip gloss. I like the minty taste and if applied carefully it does look nice on the lips. But the colour does seem to fade quickly and I think at the full price of £3.75, you could do better and buy a nicer gloss. For £2 though I'm not complaining too much so it's 3.5 stars rounded up to 4, from me! Read the complete review |
