Philosophy Candy Cane Lip Shine
by angelboouk
~Candy Cane~
Philosophy is a premium beauty brand which offers a range of skincare, bath and body care and make up products. Today, I will be discussing my use of the 'Candy Cane Lip Shine'.
This lip shine is described as being a high flavour lip gloss. Philosophy promise that this lip gloss will nourish and relieve ... lips whilst softening them. This is down to the emollient formula it has. Philosophy also promise that this lip gloss will leave no sticky residue and will leave your lips looking sheer and radiant. The flavour is described as 'refreshing peppermint'.
~Packaging~
This lip gloss is presented in a simple, clear plastic tube with a screw off lid and black writing. The lip gloss itself is dispensed through a small hole at the end of a slanted applicator. I personally prefer lip glosses to have an application brush but will happily use a slanted applicator. This lip gloss has a 12month shelf life from first use and the tube can be recycled once empty.
~Where To Buy~
Candy Cane Lip Gloss is a season edition lip gloss so isn't available from the Philosophy website all year round. It can currently be purchased on Amazon UK where a 14g tube will set you back £13.45.
~My Thoughts~
I love the Philosophy range! Most of my Philosophy collection is made up of gifts I have received. Last year, I received a trio of Philosophy lip glosses and in this set was a Candy Cane Lip Shine. I also received other limited edition lip glosses and love using them all but Candy Cane is by far my favourite of all three. It is expensive but it is sooooo good to use!
This lip gloss is one of my favourites in my rather large collection. I wear lip gloss or balm everyday and prefer it over lipstick. This lip gloss is very easy to apply thanks to the slanted applicator and can be wiped over to keep it free from any sticky residue. The gloss itself is thick and substantial. It feels heavy when spread across my lips and at first, feels like it won't spread well. It actually starts to melt onto my lips within seconds and a small blob is more than sufficient to coat my lips in an even layer of gloss.
This lip gloss is absolute heaven for lips. It feels incredibly cool and soothing which is perfect for my often dry and cracked lips. I can detect a slight tingling experience which is actually really nice and comforting for my lips. The peppermint flavour enhances the cooling aspect and it tastes gorgeous. A sweet, candy like mint flavour is evident and it leaves my lips tasting minty fresh. Ideal for applying after brushing teeth to enhance the minty aroma!
My lips feel amazing with this lip gloss on them. It does feel quite heavy at first but not tacky in any way. This lip gloss doesn't leave any sticky residue and my hair doesn't cling to them when the wind decides to blow it about. My lips are left feeling super soft, moisturised and refreshed. Candy Cane in the tube looks like an off-white sort of colour but when applied to lips, it is crystal clear. My lips are left with a gorgeous, glossy shine and a natural, healthy and moist appearance. When the sun catches my lips, they glisten but not in a glittery way, just a light reflecting way.
This lip gloss lasts well on my lips. I notice the cooling sensation for a good few hours and the minty flavour is noticeable for about an hour or two before it fades. The gloss is noticeable for two-three hours if I haven't been eating much or drinking but less time if I have. Topping up this gloss is a doddle and my lips are given a burst of minty coolness within seconds of slicking it on. It all feels very natural and the flavour is realistic. It is much nicer to apply and wear compared to other minty lip glosses.
~Conclusion~
The main appeal of this lip gloss for me personally is the cooling sensation and sweet minty flavour. It lasts well compared to cheaper lip glosses and leaves my lips in amazing condition. When the gloss fades, my lips remain soft and moisturised which is an added benefit. It is an expensive product but the quality is excellent and as only a small slick is needed per use, a 14g tube lasts well. I can highly recommend it.

Avon Brilliant Shine Lip Gloss
by emmad5689
I don't wear make up for work and as I work 5 days a week it means that the majority of my time I don't wear it however my lips do get dry so I either use a lip balm or if I feel I want a little pick me up I will slick on a bit of lip gloss.
I bought this lip gloss as it was on offer as with just about everything I buy from ... Avon, the product is only available from Avon either direct from the website of from one of their representatives.
The products was available in many colours and there was always a shade chart in the book for you to see clearly each colour side by side to pick which would be best for you, I haven't seen this product in the book recently so am not sure if you can still buy it or not as sometimes things do reappear in the Avon books after being missing a while.
I chose a very pale pink for my lip gloss just so that there was a hint of colour on my lips but I didn't want it to look too bright as I think that would look a bit wrong when not wearing any other make up.
The product is packaged in a soft plastic tube so that you can squeeze the product out, the name of the company and the product is on the front of the tube but that is all the information you get. The product comes out of the tube with a very gentle squeeze so you must be careful not too squeeze too hard otherwise you will end up wasting more than you use although as there becomes less product in the tube it does require a harder squeeze.
The end of the tube is slanted to make a really easy to apply the product onto your lips and it comes out at the perfect thickness to cover the lips without smudging outside your lip line. The product is really shiny and makes my lips feel lovely and moist however I found it to be a little bit sticky too which I find annoying, the effects are not so bad that I won't use it up but I won't be buying anymore once it is finished. 4 stars, nice but sticky. ModelCo Cheek and Lip Tint
by katyj10
This is a review of the Model Co Cheek and Lips tint I received in a beauty box recently. As it is a red colour it is not one I would choose to buy but I was keen to give it a go having had great success with the pink lip and cheek tints from Benefit and other brands.
Packaging
The product comes boxed and inside is a ... tube with a narrow tip for squeezing out the product. The narrow tip is key to this cheek and lip tint as it is definitely a 'less is more' kind of product. The top has a screw top lid and the writing is graffiti style across the label.
In use
The first thing I noticed was how very dark red the product was as I gingerly dabbed a little on my lips. Surprisingly though, it blended in really well and made a great natural look for my lips once rubbed in. I tried it on my cheeks and found a little did a fine job of creating a natural blush and not one that looked too deep in colour. I must stress though, I only used a tiny dab and quickly worked in the product before it dried. The colour is definitely quite buildable though so you can layer it if you want a more flushed look for the cheeks or lips. Consistency wise, the product is like a gel and when it is squeezed out of the tube it looks a very deep colour and looks a bit like congealed blood so would be a great product for a make up artist who needs to create a cut or graze!
My thoughts
I do prefer a more pinker colour for my lips but I don't dislike this colour. I like the tinted look as it leaves your lips dry and not greasy and I can apply lip balm on top if I wish. I don't particularly like the texture of lipstick on my lips so a tint is definitely a better move for me. I think this compares well with benetint although the consistency is thicker in the tube and not at all runny like the benetint product.
Price
I was lucky in that I received a full size sample in my glossybox but to buy this you are looking at £15 for a 10ml tube which will last absolutely ages.
Final word
I think this product is great value for money, and will last a long time. I find it works better as a minimalist look, with bare lips and straight on to bare skin for the cheek flush rather than on top of a load of make up but it's a good multi tasking product and handy if you just want to enhance rather than make up your looks! Packaging wise, I'm not terribly keen on the graffiti style text on the label but it's the product inside which is most important to be fair. I will definitely continue to use my tube and consider a repurchase in the future. Read the complete review |
