“ Brand: Lush / Stain / Type: Lipstick / Suitable for: Lip „
Packaging: This comes in a gorgeous blue and white miniature tagine. It's lovely to display and looks like it should have pride of place on your dresser. My only criticism is that the lid isn't securely fitting so could be knocked off.
Product: This appears to be a dried red paint in the tagine. At first I was very surprised when I lifted the lid as it's not a form I'd ever seen lip colour in before. It doesn't look like you get very much but you only need to use a little so it should last for ages.
The colour should be applied with a damp lip brush. You simply wet the brush, pick up some stain as if you are using a childrens paint set, and apply it to your lips. It warns you not to use your fingers, and it's not joking. I tested that out to check and it does stain fingers an attractive red colour that's great for lips, but not hands.
The colour is very long lasting although not as vibrant as I expected. It is a more subtle shade than a dramatic red. You can get a darker shade by applying more, but too much makes my lips feel overloaded. I found the colour didn't transfer on to glasses, but I did feel I needed a top up before the end of the day. Unfortunately the packaging makes it impractical to carry around to reapply so this is probably best if you're not going out all day, perhaps for an evening out instead.
I tried it both with and without lipgloss. It works both ways and gives you very different looks. Without gloss the colour is quite matte which is an unusual look, but I found it brighter and shiny with a bit of clear gloss added.
Price: At the original £10 this is a great buy. It lasts ages and looks great. Unfortunatly since Be Never Too Busy To Be Beautiful has now closed down, this is only really available from ebay, and the price will therefore vary. It's definitely a product worth keeping an eye out for on there.
The link I gave for this item has a lovely picture, I don't know why it hasn't been used! It is a shame, because the look of this lip stain is the primary reason for buying it. This item is available from Lush's cosmetic mail order and retail shop 'B Never Too Busy To Be Beautiful', rather than from Lush stores.
If you read my recent review of B Never Too Busy Too Be Beautiful, you'll know that the whole cosmetics and perfume collection is very glamourous and over the top - this item is no exception! The lip stain is presented in a miniature Moroccan tagine - a tiny lidded pot in blue and white ceramic. Each is slightly different. Lift the lid to find a pool of very matt looking dried paint in the base. The lip stain is applied by using a wet lip brush to dampen it, and then painting your lips. B Never Too Busy advise that if you are lazy and use your fingers you'll have red finger tips all day! The ideal brush to use is the glitter and sequin entrusted one also available from B Cosmetics!
Mistress Lip Stain comes in one colour only - a quite startling red. Red is the colour for lips, so I don't have a problem with this (if you want pastel colours go for one of the glosses or lip cream pots) but unfortunately I'm not so sure that this shade suits me, I could do with it being a little darker. It applies easily with a lip brush, in a very matt way - unlike any other lipstick I've used recently. I felt that I should slick on a bit of gloss or lip balm just to moisturise, and also because the matt look was unusual.
This is a stain, so it should stay on - and it does, but it doesn't really compete with other long lasting lip sticks on the market. I find that the lip stain stays on for several hours but a meal finished it off - to be honest not many lip colours really stay on when you eat, but I think it is fair to say that something like Lip Finity or Maybelline would have coped better. However, this is not really the point - as with this product you buy not only lip colour but the whole experience - the dramatic pot, the old fashioned and satisfying application. My usual lipstick lasts longer and is less effort to apply , but there will be times when I want to use this. I recommend it to anyone who loves a bright red lip colour, who has a sense of drama, and also as a lovely gift.
Cost is currently £10.
