Advantages: Winter Wonder Stuff

Disadvantages: None!

As someone with dry, sensitive skin, I tend to dread winter as its very harsh, specifically on my lips. The temperature dips below 5 degrees and it’s Lip Armageddon: chapped, cracked lips that have a tendency to bleed if they get too bad. (gross to look at and worse still to experience.) So at this time of year a good lip balm is an absolute necessity. And, at the risk of sounding like an advert for the company, after years trying out various lip balms, I’ve found Lipsyl to be the most superlative lip product around.

The best thing about Lipsyl is its satisfyingly thick formula. Despite not mentioning on the blurb, Lipsyl obviously contains some moisturising cream that actually does what its supposed to and really moisturises the lips. Even after a couple of hours you can still feel it soft on your lips. (Although it does tend leave an unpleasant white lip print on glasses I you drink straight away after using it.)

I’ve tried out of lot of lip remedies and found that many glossy balms (especially the ones that come in a small jar, for some reason ) are far too greasy, just comprising of flavoured fat. I don’t know if it’s just me but they actually have the opposite effect to what was intended. The grease just slides off and seems to make my lips more drier, cracked and uncomfortable than they were before. It’s what I presume is a cynical move by the companies to get you to buy more: your lips are chapped, apply some lip balm, they’re still chapped, so apply some more.

Novaris, the Lipsyl manufacturers have now bought out a medicinal version, but I find this does the job for much less cost and hassle. While for ages, Lipsyl was only available in the original blue coloured tube which was totally unperfumed. But luckily for all the taste-junkies, it’s now available in a variety of colour co-ordinated flavours: yellow: lemon, red: strawberry, green: mint and my favourite purple: cherry, which ac
tually tastes just like bubble-gum.

Best of all, Lipsyl is living proof that price doesn’t equal quality. It’s one of the cheaper lip balms on the market. Of course, it depends where you buy it, but I’ve never found it to be more than £1.20 a tube, often half the price of the competitors! How could you want any more from a lip balm. (Can I have my cheque now?)
