MAC Blot Powder
Advantages: very natural
This is the best pressed powder in the world ever! More than 5 stars if that was possible!
I've been using blot powder by Mac for probably over 10 years now, I've occasionally tried others along the way, but always come back to Mac's blot powder.
It currently retails for £19.00, I normally buy it from House of Fraser or Selfridges. I'm sure that when I first started to buy it I only paid about £11.00 or £12.00, I've been using it for that long!
It is available in five colours; light, medium, medium-dark, dark and deep-dark. I use medium, I have very fair skin which never tans and tonnes of freckles. I've tried the light, but I found that to be too pale, it made me look a bit washed out. I'm not really sure who the light would be suitable for as I'm sure that my skin is the palest skin around. Pale and interesting as my friends dad calls me!
Mac blot powder is a pressed powder which is designed primarily to provide shine control without adding any noticeable colour or texture. I mainly use this on its own, I'm lucky in that I have really good skin and so just a light covering of blot powder is all I need to wear. I find that it doesn't change the colour or tone of my skin it just controls any shine and creates an even look. I do also use this over foundation on a night out as it just sets my foundation and provides a finished look. I always have a compact of blot powder in my handbag to touch up during the day. It doesn't keep my oily nose shine free all day, but nothing will. I just touch up half way through the day. I find that on the whole Mac blot powder is brilliant at absorbing excess oil and reducing shine on your skin's surface. It is very natural, it doesn't cake on your skin at all. In fact I would say that it looks that I have nothing on my skin at all, even if you've touched up and so therefore put two layers on.
The blot powder can be applied either with the puff that comes in the compact or with a powder brush. I use the puff in the compact if I'm using the blot powder on its own, and a powder brush if I'm using it over foundation. The puff that comes with the blot powder is washable, or you can buy packs of 2 replacement puffs for £3.50, which again are washable. I normally have some replacement puffs handy as sometimes I lose the little puff (normally after one too many drinks!). The little compact has a mirror in the lid for ease of use. The compact itself is a sleek round matt black compact with a sturdy little clasp. I've never had any problems with it popping open in my handbag, and it just normally rattles around in there along with all the other junk that I carry around.
One thing that I love about Mac products is the free lipstick with 6 empty containers recycling offer. All you do is take 6 empty Mac products back to any of their counters and they will let you choose a free Mac lipstick. The lipsticks retail for around £14.00, so this is a great offer, especially if you use Mac products anyway. I've had loads of free Mac lipsticks this way, 90% of the time I take back 6 empty blot powder containers.
