I used to think shading your brows was only for those with very sparse/light eyebrows, but shading your eyebrows benefits everybody. Well definded brows frame your face, make you look more 'groomed' and if you accentuate your arch they open and lift the eye.
I tried cheaper eyebrow pencils in the past, but felt they were a little obvious. So for many years I didn't bother with brows, until I had my make up done at the MAC store and it change my life.....(well, my face anyway).
Sadly, all good things must come to an end and MAC has discontinued this product! Luckily I still have loads left, but I'll have to stock up on eBay for the future as this is one product I don't want to be without.
This is a brow shading duo. It contains a darker shade for the brows, and a highlighter to use uder the brow to lift and define.
Instore this cost £11. However as its discontinued, tried eBay for bargains. If that price seems a bit steep, You get a LOT of product for your pennies. Mine has been used everyday for over a year and looks untouched as you only need a little.
The packaging is the typical matt black MAC packaging, with the logo on top. The shaders slide out of the side as opposed to top opening, and this makes it very secure so you know it won't accidentally open in your make up bag and get crushed.
As I said above, this contains two shades- A dark shade to shape and define the brows, and a highlighter to use under the brows to lift and define. This comes in five different shades, so you are bound to find one that matches your brows in a natural looking way.
The dark shade has a waxy powder consistancy, which unlike a normal powder doesn't settle in the brow hairs or scatter on your face whilst applying. The waxy powder DOES stay put on the skin under the brows for a long lasting finish. Applied with a stiff angled brush, it requires minimal blending to achieve a natural finish. This really is an everyday product. Even if you are doing a minimal (or no) make up day, doing your brows makes you look instantly finished and groomed.
The highlighter is great for giving you a wide eyed look, but to be honest I don't use it all the time. A little goes a long way, just use it directly under the brow and blend.
*~How to shade your brows~*
I use a stiff angled brush (you can get these from MAC, or use a cheaper one. I got mine off eBay for 99p and its great). Get a small amount of dark shader on your brush and start to work it into the brows using short strokes in the direction of the hairs. Its important to build your colour as opposed to starting with a lot of colour on the brush as you don't want the eddie munster look!
Focus on any sparse patches, then blend and shape the entire brow. I've found you can really thicken and lengthen the brows with this, without it looking shockingly fake, which is great as strong brows are incredibly fashionable.
Once you are pleased with your brow, apply your highlighter using a thin soft brush, your finger or a cotton bud to below the arch of the brow. Shade until you are happy with your look, et voila! Brows that would make Cheryl Cole green with envy!
I have used this product every single day since I bought it. Along with mascara, its one of my indespensible items. Its made such a difference to my face. Worth the money.
There are many different types of brow products available to purchase on the market today. From pencils and shadows to gels and waxes, there is probably going to be the perfect product for you out there. Wether your eyebrows are sparse and overplucked and you feel that they could benefit from a little filling in or they don't match your hair colour and you wish they would, all brows can benefit from a little grooming and as usual MAC have created a brilliant product to do just that.
The 'Brow Shader' duos contain two different shades - A matte, neutral colour to match your eyebrow colour and a shimmery, paler shade to highlight and define below it.
The darker shade has a slightly waxy texture that allows it to 'grab' the hairs and the skin beneath them, resulting in a long lasting finish. The highlight shade is finely milled and gives a beautiful glowy, satin effect. Available in five (or ten, depending on how you look at it) different shades that have been created to work well together and compliment each other.
Packaged in a small, compact, slide out case - perfect for your makeup bag since they take up very little room.
They cost £11.00 and believe me, these things last FOREVER so it's definately money well spent.
To apply the dark shade I use a stiff angled brush (such as the MAC #266 or #208) to sweep and press the shadow through the brows starting at the inner corner and ending at the tail of the brow. The shadow blends well as you apply so you're not left with harsh, tell tale lines. You can also apply it wet if required.
This product lasts extremely well on the brows, and since it is not as powdery as regular shadows it really sticks to the skin by itself and does not require a gel or wax to be applied afterwards.
The paler shade can be applied in a few ways -
~ With your fingertip or a paddle brush to highlight the entire browbone and eye lid together. The shades are subtle so work well as an all over wash, either alone or with other shadows.
~ With a smaller brush, placed onto the browbone only to highlight your eyes and bring attention to them.
~ Or, with a small angled brush directly under the brow only to really define your eyebrows - especially the arch.
Although MAC have a few different products designed for this purpose, these are always going to be my favourite. SO easy to apply for a natural finish, last extremely well and do not smudge - What more could you ask for?!
Highly recommended :-)
