I use liquid foundation so usually wash my kabuki brushes every two or three days to avoid the bristles getting tacky and stained and also to prevent germs being spread over my face each time I use them. I wash my smaller brushes whenever they need washing (every week or so) as I hate it when they start holding colours from eye shadow/blusher because I worry that it'll transfer onto my skin when I apply a new layer of make-up and look horrible.

I used to just soak all of my brushes in the sink with some cheap baby shampoo which was an effective way of cleaning them and leaving them soft but it had no disinfectant qualities and my brushes took ages to dry after soaking as I needed to soak them for ages to get all of the old powder out of the bristles. I decided to invest in the MAC brush cleanser around six months ago after a Youtube beauty guru mentioned it in one of her 'favourites' videos and I am really glad I did.

It is so much quicker to use and it dries really quickly as well. I also like that it disinfects my brushes as that way I know that it is getting rid of any bacteria and germs, minimizing the chance of spreading germs across my face whenever I use my brushes. A 233ml bottle of this retails at £9.50 which sounds a lot but in my opinion it is good value as a bottle lasts for ages - I still have a little left despite how often I have used it over the past few months and a little does go a long way. It is high quality & very effective so definitely worth ever penny - don't let the price put you off!

The cleanser comes in a medium sized, rounded plastic bottle which has a black lid. The lid is easy to open - all you need to do is press down on the little indented part and the other side of the flip lid will flip up, revealing a small hole. The small hole prevents too much product coming out at once, but I think that a trigger spray would be a lot quicker to use. The bottle is transparent with a slightly pearly kind of glaze and the pink-ish purple liquid can be seen. The branding is minimalistic with just the MAC logo and product name on the front of the bottle and there is information on the back including instructions on how to use it.

The liquid itself has the consistency of water. Using the cleanser couldn't be easier. I usually apply it to the bristles of my brushes directly from the bottle then get a cotton pad and wipe the bristles until no more colour comes out and my brushes are clean. With smaller brushes I just soak a cotton pad in the liquid and wipe/swirl the bristles all over it in different angles to ensure that the bristles are completely clean. It is quite suprising how much dried powder and residue comes out of my brushes and the cleanser is very thorough. I don't need to scrub my brushes for ages as it cleans them so quickly and it dries quicky as well. It is easy to tell when the brushes are clean and it takes around ten minutes to clean all of the brushes that I use most often (2 kabuki's and 3 smaller brushes). After using it my brushes are left feeling soft, clean and not at all damaged or dried out.

Overall this is a quick and easy way to thoroughly cleanse your make-up brushes and I highly recommend it - once my current bottle has run out I will definitely be re-purchasing.
