M.A.C is a cosmetics brand which originated in Canada. M.A.C offer a wide range of make up and skin care products for professional and regular use.
M.A.C offer a few different lipgloss ranges including 'Plushglass' and 'Lustreglass'. For the purpose of this review, I will be discussing the Dazzleglass range.
This range of lipglosses includes 17 shades. The shade range is mainly pinks and purples though there is a few neutral shades on offer too. Shades include titles such as 'Love Alert', 'Baby Sparks' and 'Date Night'. M.A.C state that this lipgloss contains pearl particles which will give an opal crystal and quartz effect as the light shines on your lips. They also claim that this gloss will be non-sticky, lightweight and moisturising for your lips. It can be worn alone or over lipstick to create a different effect.
Each Dazzleglass is presented in a chunky, round tube which is made of thick plastic. The tube itself is clear and has M.A.C cosmetics printed on it. A simple shade sticker is stuck to the bottom of the tube. The wand extends far in to the tube and features a brush applicator. Overall, I like the design. It is simple yet stylish and reflects the price range and brand well.
~Price and Availability~
Dazzleglass is available in a 2.4ml sized tube. All good M.A.C stockists (department stores and online) are likely to stock it. House of Fraser and Debenhams currently offer this gloss priced at £17.00.
I love lipgloss and have a huge collection of various branded glosses with the cheapest being around £1.00 and the most expensive over £20.00! I like a bit of variation. I cannot say that M.A.C is a brand I buy from regularly but it does appear to be popular. I made a purchase of my Dazzleglass in the post Christmas sales so managed to obtain a small discount. I purchased my gloss from House of Fraser where they have a large M.A.C department.
When it came to choosing a shade, I was spoilt for choice. The shade range is quite varied with shades to suit various skin tones. I have quite pale skin and prefer a light pink shade for my lips. I much prefer to add extra colour to my eyes whilst leaving my lips looking a bit more natural. I opted for 'Like Venus' which is marketed as a light pink shade. It is one of the lightest shades in the Dazzleglass range. I felt this was a suitable option for wearing during the day or in the evening though some may prefer a more intense colour.
~Pucker Up Pink Princess~
My lips are quite dry so the added benefit of hydration is always a bonus for me. Dazzleglass is extremely easy to use as the wand lid is the perfect size to grip. The brush at the end of the wand is of a high quality. It is durable yet soft and gentle and picks up a small amount of gloss. You really only need a thin slither of gloss across your lips to cover them evenly. The gloss itself has a pleasant consistency - not too thick and certainly not slimy. It is just right and slicks over my lips without dragging. The brush allows for a precise application with minimal blending required.
Once on my lips, Dazzleglass feels very lightweight - I can never tell that it is there to be honest. It looks smooth and neat. My lips feel moist and moisturised each time I apply this gloss. The non-sticky claim is founded as my lips do not feel tacky and hair doesn't stick to them either so this is perfect for me (and most other girls I am sure). My lips haven't experienced any drying effects from this gloss and moisturisation lasts all day. M.A.C state that this gloss has a vanilla flavouring. Personally I notice a faint, fruity scent whilst applying it before it settles to a sweet vanilla flavour. The flavour is short lived but much more appealing than plasticky tasting glosses.
Shade wise, the colour swatches on the House of Fraser website are more accurate than the M.A.C website. 'Like Venus' is a baby pink in the tube and does look a little cheap but on the lips, it is a little more subtle. A thin slick of gloss results in gorgeous, pink lips. My lips do not look overdone after using Dazzleglass. The pink colouring is more subtle than full on colour but it works well. The gloss effect is really great. My lips have a slight, wet appearance and look healthy and natural. Others have pointed out that my lips do indeed glisten in a pretty way when the light catches them. I wouldn't say dazzle and there is certainly no cheap and nasty glittery look but the particles do capture light nicely and give a different look.
Like most glosses, Dazzlegloss doesn't last all day. It is of a high quality and the pink colouring is noticeable for a 2 hours or so even with minimal eating and drinking before gradually fading. The gloss effect seems to last a bit longer but does need topped up through the day.
I do like my M.A.C Dazzlegloss. It looks good on my lips though I do not feel it is worth the £17.00 price tag. It is good for an everyday gloss and my tube still has loads left despite regular use. I personally prefer something a bit more special (Dior or Chanel gloss for example) for special occasions.
If you want to try this gloss, buy direct from trusted department stores as fake M.A.C is rife on the internet.
Thanks for reading :)
Summary: expensive but a decent quality lip gloss
