Advantages: Quality
Disadvantages: Smell, large nozzle
The brand of false lashes that I buy most often actually comes with a little tube of glue in each pack but I was so unimpressed with the quality and lack of durability that I ended up investing in MAC's 'duo' eyelash adhesive, which was recommended to me by a friend.
This is available from most MAC counters and I bought mine from Debenhams. It can also be purchased from the official MAC website. A 14g tube retails at £10.00, which I know seems extortionate but as long as you don't apply too much each time you use it the tube will last for at least six months.
I usually wear false lashes 2-3 days a week and my tube still has plenty left in it after around four months. At first quite a lot of product was going to waste because of the large nozzle so it's important to squeeze it really gently else loads of the glue comes out in blobs.
The nozzle really needs re-designing so that the hole is smaller but apart from that the packaging is okay - the tube comes boxed and it's white with blue and black writing on it. It isn't particularly ugly - just plain and a little medicinal looking in my opinion! The glue itself is white and quite thick - it's not overly thick though. It's a latex based adhesive, so it is unsuitable for anyone with a latex allergy. Using the glue is simple.
You're supposed to squeeze it onto the band (edge) of the false lashes but because of the large nozzle I apply a thin strip of it onto the back of my hand then dip the band of the lashes into it, making sure that it is covered in the glue. This method is less fiddly and more precise.
I then wait for 30 seconds or so for the glue to go tacky then apply it to my eyelid. I'm not very steady handed and often apply my lashes wonky but as the glue takes a while to dry I can easily and painlessly remove the lashes and re-adjust them. The glue takes around seven minutes to dry completely and it dries clear - once dry there is no trace of whiteness.
The glue keeps my lashes firmly in place and it has even managed to keep them perfectly in tact on the few occasions that I have fallen asleep while wearing them after a night on the town. It is easy to remove and usually comes off all at once as it dries in a strip.
After I've removed it I use a cleanser on my eyelids to make sure that all traces of it are gone. I've never had any irritation or pain from the adhesive. The only disadvantage that I can think of is the strong, unpleasant smell but this dissapears once the glue is dry.
Overall I recommend the duo adhesive and I give it four out of five stars.
Summary: 4/5
