Advantages: Vibrant colour, smooth and easy to apply, longwearing
Disadvantages: Price
MAC are a well-known cosmetics brand, which produce, among other makeup products, a variety of eye pencils. The one I will be reviewing is from the 'Powerpoint' range.
I bought this quite a while ago, and despite knowing that I should probably throw it away and replace it, I don't have the funds to do so and I love this product so much that I would rather hold on to it.
I own the shade 'So There Jade', a shimmery light green colour, however MAC stock a variety of colours - the ones that stand out the most to me are 'Prussian' (a dark grey-blue) and 'Bordeauxline' (a rich plum). This eye pencil also comes in the typical black, grey and brown shades.
-Packaging-
I love MAC packaging, I think it looks very professional and stylish. The 1.2g Powerpoint eye pencil is a very distinctive black in colour, with matching plastic lid.
The end of the pencil features a small band of colour, which corresponds to the shade of pencil it contains. The coloured band on my eye pencil is unsurprisingly an appealing mint colour, which goes well with the overall theme of the product.
It is very minimalistic in look, the writing is a silver-grey in colour and a capitalised plain font, giving only the necessary details.
If I remember correctly, this product came packaged in a a thin cardboard box decorated standard to the MAC brand - I am not keen on this as I find it highly unnecessary and wasteful.
-The Promise-
The MAC website tells me that this product is meant to be waterproof, longwearing, smooth to apply and won't transfer, smudge or budge. Sounds perfect!
-Application and Effect-
You apply this eye pencil just as you would any other: the method I favour is holding the eyelid in place using a Q-Tip (pulling the eye 'taut' with your finger isn't good on the sensitive skin in this area) and using small strokes - starting from the middle to the outer corner, then working to the inner corner - to create one fluid line.
The pencil itself is light and easy to grip, making steady application effortless. Drawing the line is a very smooth process, the pencil is a creamy formula which glides across the skin with ease. Unlike other eye pencils out there, you needn't push hard to create a line, relatively little pressure is needed.
The colour is surprisingly vibrant when applied, the mint green really stands out and makes me look awake - however to achieve this I sometimes have to apply a couple of layers of the product, although I tend to do this with most eyeliners. It is a shimmery colour which is noticeable, but not too noticeable, when it catches the light. I usually wear this without eyeshadow, as I don't feel that my eyes need it with this stunning colour. Sometimes I wear this over black pencil liner to create a subtle shimmery dark green line, which I really like.
I have worn this product on nights out and it hasn't smudged or disappeared, so I haven't had to worry about reapplying it. I fortunately haven't ever had to test whether this product is truly waterproof or not, especially as I never use this colour on my waterline, but it is fairly easy to remove at the end of the night.
Sharpening this product is necessary as the creamy texture means it becomes blunt fairly quickly, however I have found sharpening this pencil to be just as easy as any other I have owned.
-Price-
This product currently costs £12, and while this is expensive compared to other brands out there I do not regret my purchase. I only ever purchase MAC cosmetics from MAC stores so I do not know if it is cheaper on other websites.
-Overall Opinion-
I really like my Powerpoint eye pencil, it's been an easy way to add a dash of colour to brighten up my eyes. I've found it to be the smoothest eye pencil to apply compared to others I have used in the past, and it is fairly long lasting.
However the price is a major downside. Although I am a fan of this product, I am not sure if I can justify spending £12 on one eye liner - when I eventually part with my current one I will probably replace it with a cheaper substitute.
Summary: 4 out of 5 stars because of the price!
