MAC Eye Pencil
Advantages: creates a bold contrasting effect, it is applied above your lash line easily
Disadvantages: difficult to apply onto your waterline, not great precision, expensive, not as good as other liners
I bought this eyeliner pencil a while back in black.
~ Appearance ~
It is rather long for an eyeliner at just over 6 inches long. The pencil itself is a matte black colour with the famous MAC logo in white lettering. It also has the words, 'eye/lip liner pencil aloe vera & vitamin E' in white lettering and it also tells you in much smaller letters that the product weighs 1.5g.
There is a glossy black colour around the bottom 2 centimetres of the pencil, which indicates the colour of the pencil.
The pencil has a grey lid which sits over the point of the pencil. The lid is easily removed to reveal the pencil's point.
The pencil has that wooden pencil smell to it.
As I have mentioned in many of my eyeliner reviews, I prefer wooden kohl eyeliner pencils as I find they have a more precise application than liquid or crayon liners and also I find the effect they have is longer lasting.
~ Price and availability~
This MAC kohl eye/ lip liner pencil is available from larger Boots stores, department stores and online at www.maccosmetics.co.uk for around £13.50.
~ Use ~
I have found that this eyeliner pencil is easy to apply above my upper lash line, but it is not as smooth and precise as other eyeliners I have used.
I also find that when I apply this eyeliner to my waterline it barely shows up at all and I have to go over the colour repeatedly to try to build it up. Once it is applied to my waterline it appears to be a little uneven and it is not as effective as other eyeliners I have used.
The point of the pencil seems a little bit more tough and rigid than that of better eyeliner pencils I have used, which had soft, but firm points, from which I also found the colour transferred onto your skin much easier.
Above my lash line the eyeliner appears bold and effective. I really like the effect it creates. I have pale skin and this eyeliner shows up bold against it and it makes my eyes stand out.
Once it is applied I have found it to be fairly long lasting above my lash line, where it does not smudge or wear off for a good few hours.
Once applied to my waterline it lasts a few hours before it needs to be topped up or reapplied.
It is easy to remove when you are ready to take it off and it doesn't irritate my eyes at all.
The information on the side of this pencil suggests it can be used on lips as well as eyes, but I don't think a black coloured pencil is suitable as a lipliner and I don't think anyone looking to buy this pencil in black would use it as a lipliner pencil either.
~ Conclusion ~
Overall, I think this eyeliner is good, but it is not the best I have used. I think it lacks precision and is quite difficult to apply to your waterline.
It is quite expensive for the results it offers. I have had much more success with much cheaper brands.
The pencil is quite rigid and has quite a hard point to it, which is not ideal for application, but it still looks good when applied to your lash line or when it is repeatedly applied to your waterline and the final look is bold and effective.
I like this eyeliner, but I'd be reluctant to buy it again as it is quite expensive and I achieve better results from cheaper pencils. I would not recommend this eyeliner pencil as Barry M and Avon's Color Trend pencils are much better products, but retail for around one fifth of the price of this one.
Summary: Difficult to apply
