Advantages: Lots of vibrant shades to choose from; blends well; lasts all day long!

Disadvantages: Individual shades more expensive than drugstore brands

Earlier this past spring, I was finally given the chance to experience my very first M*A*C (Makeup Artists Cosmetics) eye make-over while a few of my friends oohed and aahed over the color choices the somewhat aloof make-up artist used on me. At first, I was a bit worried about what my eyes would look like as she picked out shades I probably would not haven chosen for myself. But she took her brushes and began blending away, and then next thing I knew, my blue eyes were practically popping right off my face! It was certainly a long time coming and once my make-over was complete, I ended up purchasing this M*A*C Eyeshadow in three different shades. Read on to find out more about these fantastic long lasting shadows that are available in almost every shade imaginable, from subtle pinks and browns, to more bold colors like green, purple, and even black, if that's what you like!

*The Eye Shadow*

These M*A*C Eyeshadows are by far one of the most long lasting and blendable shadows I've tried in a long time. All you need is a good eyeshadow brush and these shadows easily glide on smooth and stay in place for most of the day. They even give my beloved Urban Decay shadows a run for their money, so be forewarned that a new obsession may be just around the corner! According to product advertising, these are colour for the eyes. Total eye openers. To highlight, contour, shape, and define. A choice array of innovative formulas, finishes and shades. So far I *only* have three individual containers of this eye shadow, but I plan on adding to my collection really soon! For the shades the make-up artist picked out for me during my make-over consist of the following color choices: (1) Texture, a velvety smooth deep brown with a hint of coral for contouring, (2) Soft Brown, a lighter matte brown that makes a great base color, and (3) Naked Lunch, a frosty champagne color to add shine while highlighting. All three of these eye shadows blend together beautifully and make my blue eyes appear larger and deeper in color. I've even had people ask me if I wear colored contacts (I don't) ever since I started wearing my new M*A*C Eyeshadows as my eyes are much bluer and brighter than ever before.

Of course there are many other numerous shades and finishes of these M*A*C Eyeshadows to choose from if you want break away from the boring browns I like to use. Check out their website for a complete listing of all the currently available shade names as I can't possibly describe them all here. But when choosing finishes, use these definitions as a guide:

FROST---An iridescent shine that adds a highlight to any colour.
LUSTRE---Smoothly pearlized; intensely frosted with deluxe ultra-fine "conditioned" finish.
MATTE---Hi-colour pay-off in a no-shine matte finish.
SATIN---Pure colour in a satin-style finish. Provides a soft subtle non-frost, light-refractive sheen.
VELUXE---Superfine pigment rich and very luxe. Supple to apply. Provides silky smooth matte finish.
VELVET---Soft look finish with high-colour intensity. Has a plush velvety look and feel.

*Packaging, Price, & Availability*

Purchase these M*A*C Eyeshadows in the individual round 0.05 oz (1.5g) pans at the M*A*C counter of your favorite fine department store. Each black plastic container features a snap on hinged lid with a clear middle section so that the shade found within can be seen without opening. The M*A*C logo is also seen here while the actual shade name and finish are printed on the bottom of each pan. Although I have limited experience with the M*A*C make-up artists myself, I've heard they are one of the best, so ask what color combinations would look best on you like I did. And when your pans are empty, trade in six of your M*A*C Eyeshadow containers for a free lipstick.

*My Experience*

Since I purchased some trendy Urban Decay shadows at the same time I bought these M*A*C Eyeshadows, it took me awhile before I really began to play around with all of my new stuff. But now that a few months have gone by and I've had plenty of time to experiment, I am now totally in love with my new look. For once I apply some foundation to my lids to give my shadows something to stick to, I layer my three shades in this order with an eye shadow brush: (1) Soft Brown is swept onto the lid first as my base color, (2) then I take the darker Texture and apply it into the crease to contour, and (3) I use the Naked Lunch to create shimmery highlights at the brow. All it takes is a few minutes and my eyes are transformed from looking barely there to "Hey baby! Look at those gorgeous blue eyes!" beautiful. And all I have are a few friends and these M*A*C Eyeshadows to thank for it!

*Overall Recommendation*

If you are in desperate need of an eye make-over just as I was a few months ago, then starting with a few of these M*A*C Eyeshadows would be a good place to start! Just stop by one of their many cool counters and see what their make-up artists can do for your new look as well. For once you find a few flattering shades in the finishes you prefer, then chances are you'll be hooked just as I am. So in conclusion, it should come as no surprise that I highly recommend these M*A*C Eyeshadows if you want long lasting, vibrant shades that will last all day and well into the night. Good luck and happy online Beauty product shopping :-)

I've got a lovely MAC eyeshadow my daughter bought for me a couple of years ago. It's a deep purple colour and I use it as an eyeliner as it's much softer than using a pencil or the liquid type. Enjoyed your review & thanks for the wee makeup lesson1 Lou x
