Advantages: blends nicely, colour
I have a slight obsession with eye shadows; therefore, I have tried various make-up brands. At Mac they sell empty palettes, where you basically buy one and then buy refills to fill it up. I bought a palette to fit 4 eye shadows.
The palette costs £6.50 and the refills cost £10 for 1.5g. The colour of the eye shadow I purchased is called: 'Woodwinked' the reason I choose this eyeshadow as it was recommended on many make-up tutorials as one of the favorites of many make-up artists. Also, the fact I tend to go for gold/beiges. The eye shadow palette comes in a black plastic case. The front of the case is clear so you can see through the palette, something I do tend to prefer, I like to be able to see what's in the inside of the product because if I have numerous eye shadow palettes, it's a bit of a pain having to go through them all to find the right one.
The eye shadow palette is plain but I still think it looks good. It has the M.A.C logo in white on the front and has a black base.
The woodwinked shade is really beautiful. If you Google it you can see images of it on to get a real feel of what it is like. I can describe it but it wont be the same. It's a golden kind of colour. As Mac describes it as a 'Golden antique' shade.
Due to the colour been a golden shade, it does look its best on those with olive skin. For people with pale skin they have claimed it looks slightly orangey golden colour on their eyes.
The eyeshadow lasts all day but I do notice a few creases, but I guess this is expected as firstly my skin is combination, so although my skin is terribly dry when I wake up, it can be quite oily through the day and this can have an affect on my eye make-up and of course the rest of my make-up... unfortunately!
Is it as good as the other brands?
I must say that MAC eye shadow is in my opinion very overrated. In fact I think the brand itself is. I have used much nicer products from Chanel and Estee Lauder. Obviously the prices tend to be a fraction more but not that much more.
The eye shadow is good but Urban Decay deliver just as good results with their eye shadows for a much cheaper price if you buy a already made up palette. Such as: Urban decay naked 1 and 2. This is usually around £32 but you get 12 eye shadows.
Despite this, the eye shadow is soft and blends nicely. It has a really nice velvet feel. A tip I learned from a make-up tutorial was to get really intense eye make-up adds a little water to your brush and it really makes such a difference to the intensity of the colour and even makes it easier to blend.
The mac eye shadow if it was a tad cheaper it would be in my eyes just as good, but due to finding a product that matches the standards of MAC but much cheaper, I would have to go with Urban decay.
So overall, I do like MAC eye shadow, but I am afraid it is well and truly overrated for its prices. Urban decay wins a mile off for me because of this.
Summary: good but urban decay wins
