Member Name: xisorosix
Advantages: Really good eyeliner
Disadvantages: None to speak of...
Despite hearing the hype surrounding the fluidline gel eyeliners by MAC, I was sceptical to purchase one since I was doing pretty well with my pencil eyeliners and didn't see a great need to buy another eyeliner product, especially from a brand that is pretty expensive. I ended up having a little splurge session several months down the line by buying the BlackTrack Fluidline from the MAC website at £12 for 3g of product, as well as some brushes. The eyeliner brush (209) actually cost me even more than the eyeliner at £13!
(maccosmetics.co.uk) Ultra-smooth, Fluidline's gel formula provides the precision of a liquid liner with a silkier, softer finish. Goes on foolproof with a brush in an easy dip-and-stroke action. Long-wearing. Smudge-proof. Lines up in a rich array of colours and finishes.
~~Current Price & Additional Information~~
The price is actually up from what I paid. The official MAC website sells them for £14 a pot for the same 3g amount. On the website, the fluidline gel eyeliner comes in 9 different shades. Unfortunately, this is likely to be the price you'll find from other retailers unless you decide to use Ebay (buyers beware!).

I've still kept the outside packaging which is roughly a 4x4x2.5cm black box. Information is pretty minimal on here with ingredients on one side, and the colour and weight on the front with manufacturer's details on the back. The actual product is housed in a nice glass tub which is around 3cm in diameter and about 2.5cm tall. Although the product looks and feels quite heavy and expensive, one look sideways and you'll see just how little 3g of product is! The container is extremely shallow so you see this tiny dip of, in my case, rich black pigment. The lid is actually around 1.5cm thick, whereas the base that contains the gel is around 1cm thick!
So I cringed and I cringed about spending so much only for 3g of product in a shallow tub to arrive, thus making me feel even more guilty about this purchase!
I used the 209 Mac eyeliner to dip it into the product and instantly noticed how richly pigmented the eyeliner was...maybe it isn't so bad after all... the 209 brush is pretty thin and precise although there are lots of good brushes at a fraction of the MAC price(!), and after one swipe near my upper and lower lash line, I was pretty impressed with the results. The colour is a really dense true black that goes on extremely smoothly and even though I've not dipped my finger in (hygiene, hygiene!), it feels pretty creamy on the brush. Silky and soft like the description says!
I've used this on quite a few occasions and have been amazed at how much product is left (of those 3 precious grams!) Each time I look there is still lots of use to be had! Despite the cost being pretty high for so little, you can easily use this for a year (or more...)
This is not something I would recommend for smokey eye looks if you want to do some smudging straight after applying. But this is perfect if you like doing the winged-eyeliner effect or other precise work with your eyeliner. I don't like putting eyeliner on my waterline so I can't say how well it stays on there!
With the "Long-lasting" claim... I thought it was better than a lot of eyeliners I've used, definitely, but it still smudges after a while since my lids are quite oily. I try and use a primer for this product and it does help, but I still have to check in the mirror for fear that it has gone astray. Since the eyeliner is so pigmented, when it starts to fade and smudge, it can look messy. This is not a problem if I'm careful though, and I actually have no better substitute for this rich, high impact eyeliner!
I would recommend this to anyone! Great for precision lining and creating dramatic looks. Very richly pigmented.
Summary: A very good gel eyeliner
