A little pot of 'wonderfulness'

Advantages: Easy to apply and looks great!
I couldn't help but get drawn into the MAC counter as I desperately tried to resist when I walked into Debenhams. I wasn't on the hunt for a new eyeliner really, I just fancied having a look as I often do. As usual, I purchased a product that I wasn't sure I would ever use, but that I liked the idea of. Sound familiar?
-- MAC Cosmetics --
MAC produce high quality make up, often considered premium, along with application brushes and a range of skin care products. To me, their products tend to be a little quirky and not quite the run of the mill make up you might get from other brands.
-- Fluidline --
I had asked one of my friends a few weeks prior to my purchase what eyeliner she was using as she had the most perfect little black flick at the corner of each eye. Admittedly, this envied me somewhat as almost every time I have ever attempted a flick I have just ended up with a black smudged eye that looks like I have been punched in the face. Eyeliner application isn't exactly my forte.
She pulled out a little black pot which I later discovered to be fluidline. At first I thought it was eyeshadow as it is packaged similarly in a little round pot. I had always thought eyeliners came in a pencil or tube.
As you can see from the picture, it goes in a little pot (3g to be precise) with a wider base, displaying MAC on the front. The colour is then raised and in its own little compartment, shielded by a black lid. To open, this simply has to be screwed and it will become loose and able to be removed. When the lid is first removed, the eyeliner looks very compact and solid. To my surprise it actually wasn't.
-- Application --
As I said above, applying eyeliner isn't one of my best skills. I purchased a brush from MAC which the lady at the counter recommended (I will review that separately), which is very thin and apparently ideal for applying this eyeliner.
So it isn't strictly liquid or pencil and in fact falls somewhere in between as it is a gel eyeliner. I dipped the brush into the top of the pot very gently and created a faint line in the pot to get some eyeliner onto the brush. It actually applied easily as it was much smoother than I expected. As it isn't as wet as a liquid eyeliner, it doesn't matter quite so much if you don't have a steady hand as it doesn't look like you've drawn a wonky line on your eyelid (hooray).
The flick took me a couple of attempts, but actually I managed it in the end. Perhaps not quite as well as I would have liked, but practice makes perfect! I was surprised with the ease at which it applied, although I'm not sure how much of this was down to the brush.
It created a nice black line that could easily be made a little thinner or thicker depending on the look you want. Because of the nature of the gel, the line looks quite bold but this is the way I prefer it to be.
It came off really easily using a face wipe and didn't stain my skin at all. I have on several occasions worn it for 9/10 hours without it smudging or coming off at all so it definitely satisfies the criteria for long lasting.
-- Price and Availability --
MAC don't have many stand alone stores so you are most likely to find them within a department store. I have seen a MAC counter in most Debenhams, but other large department stores will not doubt stock them too. They are also available to purchase from the MAC website directly and no doubt other third party websites.
They have a variety of colours available: blacktrack, blitz & glitz, dark diversion, dipdown, local wares, macroviolet, rich ground and waveline. They are very imaginative names, but basically there are all colours from green to black to purple.
It is priced on the MAC website at £14. This is above average compared to what you pay for a high street brand, but the quality makes it worthwhile and it is still priced at a lower price range compared to some premium branded products.
-- Overall --
I would definitely recommend this product for an everyday eyeliner as it is quick and easy to apply and it will last you all day without the need for reapplication! 5/5
