“ Brand: MAC cosmetics / Type: Mascara / Suitable for: Eye „
MAC's Haute and Naughty mascara has a two step brush system; the pink gives you light eyelash coverage; the purple gives you double the brush and therefore double the volume in your lash. It's a wonderful idea, giving you the choice of two different effects whilst only using one mascara tube. Which, when you are spending a lot on a mascara, is a real bonus as you don't want to necessarily have two tubes open at once, one for 'day' and one for 'night'. If, like me, you are meticulous in your mascara hygiene then you'll be getting through a new mascara every three months - that is 4 a year and at £17.50 a pop, £70 a year. Adding two to your buying schedule so you can have super almost false volume for party and simple girl next door chic for work brings this up to a whopping £140 a year. In which case, Haute and Naughty really does save you money.
Moving onto the mascara formula itself, it has a strong colour and the naughty effect really is striking and volumous and the haute side gives incredibly natural looking lashes. Both sides coat evenly and don't clump the lashes together. I have noticed a couple of disadvantages with this formula, however. The first is that it doesn't seem to have the staying power I would expect in that it smudges easily and by the end of the day has slipped and settled into my undereye wrinkles. If you want a MAC mascara that stays put until the end of the day, I'd recommend that you turn to Zoom lash instead. The second problem I have found is that it goes clumpy in the tube fairly quickly. I'm onto my third tube and again, within a month, it's clumpy and I'm having to wipe the wand every second application. Due to this, I've decided I'm not going to be buying myself a fourth, but it's pretty unusual of me to be getting to the stage of three buys in a row when it comes to make up so that tells you a lot about the quality of the look.
This mascara cost £17.50 for 9grams so it is pricey. It comes in a black tube with a purple glittery lid and also a hot pink lid. I love the contrast of the pot and lid and I do feel it adds interest to the look of the mascara. The hot Pink lid is the 'daytime' mascara although it adds definition and length to you lashes this is the type of look you'd expect at work or shopping. The you pull out both lids to reveal the 'nightime' look with creates full on drama. Your lashes are really thick and voluminous in this mode.
On me personally I love this mascara, it not quite a false lash but it does look beautiful on, application is easy peasy even though a double use wand does seem a little complicated.
As you may have seen drug store brands are totally on the idea of 2-1 mascaras which are cheaper than this however from me this will probably be a repurchase!
For Christmas I made sure I had a few Mac "essentials" on my list as I always somewhat begrudge spending extortionate amounts of money on make up... although secretly I am quite starting to like it but have to keep up this charade so people will still buy me products from Mac for my birthday and for Christmas too! I'd needed a new mascara since about November but kept putting off buying one as I desperately wanted to try a Mac one but couldn't quite justify the price tag when I had so many presents to buy for other people. Luckily my mum answered my prayers and bought me a Mac mascara as part of my Mac themed goodie bag for Christmas!
The mascara I'd requested was the Haute and Naughty mascara which comes in a standard black tube with a lid that is about one and a half inches in length and is glittery purple on the lower half and fuchsia pink on the upper half. The tube is certainly eye catching due to the brightly coloured lid and looks different to any other mascara I've ever owned. The tube itself comes in a plain black box which seems to be standard with Mac make up products. The mascara is accessed by unscrewing the lid and here's the trick... the mascara has two separate lids, you can unscrew either the purple lid with the fuchsia one attached or just the fuchsia lid...
Confused? I was when I first got it! It's a two in one mascara that lets you choose if you want your lashes to be naturally defined (the fuchsia pink lid) or if you want them to be combed and loaded (the purple glittery lid). There is only one brush attached to the lid but when you unscrew the pink one it pulls through the purple part which results in the brush being wiped and therefore creating a much less dramatic finish. The easy to use dual wiper system means this mascara can go either way and create two different effects using the same brush. One wiper refines the application for a clear and light sweep while the other loads the mascara on!
The mascara itself only comes in black and it really does do a marvellous job, using the loaded brush really makes my eye lashes look more longer and thicker while the refining brush makes my lashes look dark and defined. The effect of the loaded brush is really noticeable, it makes my lashes look a lot longer and thicker than my previous mascara and it also makes them really stand out too. The refining brush is ideal for everyday wear as it's not quite as dramatic so all in all you're really getting two mascaras for the price of one! This is priced at a whopping £17.50 for 9g which is quite pricey but it's still getting four stars from me as it's simply superb!
Thanks for reading.
