Advantages: High shine and sparkle, hydrating, tidy container, easy application.

Disadvantages: High shine does wear off quicker than you are made to believe.

"A unique lip gloss available in a wide variety of colours that can create a high gloss, glass like finish, or a subtle sheen." ... "It's pigmented, very shiny, and can impart subtle or dramatic colour" MAC website; product description.

One thing that I am in no doubt of is this product from MAC can indeed create a "high gloss" and a "glass like finish". When wearing this gloss it is like there a millions of tiny diamonds on my lips all reflecting the light. My lips are covered in a luscious and beautiful coating of colour and shine. I think the description of the ability to apply a subtle sheen is, however, somewhat misleading. For me, yes, one coat is fairly subtle and I can just see that I have a lovely light coat of gloss on my lips. But, for someone who maybe was not used to wearing gloss, or is not used to a sparkly product, would find the single "subtle" coat too much and far away from the description of "subtle" itself. I tend to apply three or four coats of the product and really go for a good shiny and sparkly finish! That is a good thing about this product, it can be built on. Many glosses, I have found, lack this ability, and this gives the MAC Lipglass serious kudos in my opinion.

"...perfect product for creating shine that lasts." MAC website; product description.

This statement on the description, I do have a slight disagreement with. Although the gloss is a thick coat, and although it does last longer than some other products I have used in the past, I do not personally describe this as actually "long lasting". Have a drink, a bite to eat, or kiss someone on the cheek, and you find it disappears. Even without those contributing factors, I do find the high shine and high sparkle can wear off fairly fast. There is some glitter and colour still left behind, but the high gloss/heavy coverage itself is gone. And actually, speaking of glitter, I will point out, no matter how neat you apply it there is always glitter appearing around your mouth and face!

"It contains jojoba oil to help soften and condition the lips" MAC website; product description.

The above statement I do agree with in its entirety. After using this Lipglass, my lips feel very soft. Some products I have used in the past leave me feeling as though the hydration has been taken from my lips, and I need to apply more not only to replace the colour and shine, but also to rehydrate my lips. This, however, may come off the lips but left behind is rather lovely conditioned skin. It does gain extra kudos in this area, for where so many other products can fail.

"...lipglass in packaged in a convenient bottle with a sponge tip applicator that provides quick, smooth, even application." MAC website; product description.

The bottle is certainly a mess free and easy way to store and apply the gloss. The sponge is of a good size so you can apply the gloss mess free and easily, while still being small enough to allow the user to be precise. The bottle stays clean, and the sponge lasts well. The plastic casing seems of high quality, and the information on the body clearly printed. The print does come off with time however, but, this is not a huge deal as long as you do not want it to always say "MAC Lipglass" and have the ingredients etc displayed. The tube is clear which allows the colour and sparkle of the gloss to show through. I think this adds a nice visual aspect, and makes the packaging even more appealing. The gloss is so beautiful and of such high quality that there is no need to hide it behind coloured plastic.

This gloss retails from MAC at £13.50 for a 2.4g tube. I think for the high quality products that MAC deliver and for the fact this is, even with slight faults, head and shoulder above many other products, that £13.50 is a fair price. It is a premium brand, with premium products, and as long as the desired effect is super sparkle then you will be very happy with this for the price paid (I think!).

Summary: A lovely product, and I would recommend it. High quality.
