Advantages: Long lasting, Prevent feathering/bleeding, Can be worn alone or with other products.

Disadvantages: Some can be drying.

With such a huge range of Lipsticks, it's a good job MAC supply a more than adequate amount of Liners too. Currently available in two different types; the Cremesticks and the regular Pencil. Whether you're looking to match your natural colour or your lipstick, you're very likely to find yourself a perfect shade and if not, a very close one.

The Cremestick Liners are designed to be used either around the lip line to seal in Lipstick, or blended all over the lips to either wear alone as a 'stain' or under Lipstick and Gloss. When worn under other shades, it creates a base for other products to stick long, in turn making them last longer. However the Cremesticks are worn they prevent feathering and bleeding.
They are smooth and creamy, but still 'waxy' enough to stay put. They are available in both Cream and Pearl finishes and there are 26 shades to choose from. My favourites are "Honey B" and "Gingerroot" which are both natural, slightly shimmery shades.

To apply I start at the centre of my cupids bow and lightly work outwards in short, dense strokes before blending with a clean fingertip. Unlike many other liners, they do not dry my lips and last ages (or until eating.) Packaged in retractable plastic casing, you simply twist the base to raise the Liner. They supposedly sharpen themselves, however I sometimes find myself 'moulding' the product on the back of my hand to regain a sharp point. At £9.00 a piece, they last a relatively long time, though due to their creamy, softer texture not as long as the regular liners do.

The Lip Pencils look just like any other regular, run of the mill lipliner. Though, in my opinion they perfom a lot better than most. Just like the Cremesticks they are designed to be wither worn around / on the lipline, or to fill in the entire lip with colour. They are smooth, precise and very long lasting once applied. The colours are protected by Vitamin E which in turn acts as an anti-oxident and helps protect your lips. They also prevent your lipstick from feathering into any fine lines around your mouth, and are especially useful when wearing bright, opaque shades.

I rarely use the regular Lipliners as an allover base as some tend to dry the surface of my lips a little. But worn around the lipline and blended downwards they give a natural, fuller, more defined effect. Also sold for £9.00, despite needing to be sharpened they last a much longer time than the Cremesticks. Kept clean and sanitary these can literally last for years - A great investment in my opinion.

If you only want one Lipliner I would recommend getting yourself one of that matches your lip colour exactly (or as close as possible) as these can be worn to simply define your lips, used as a base or to prevent feathering/bleeding of any shade of Lipstick/Gloss.
