Advantages: Moisturising, good pigmentation, great choice of colour

Disadvantages: A little pricey, and harder to find on the high street than the mainstream brands

I have liked MAC make up ever since I tried my first products from their range several years ago. Since then, I've tried most of their products in various shades, but the lipstick has to be a particular favourite and I own a few in different shades as recommended for me at the makeover sessions I've been to. (Incidentally, the makeover sessions are conducted by trained make up artists and are great value - you have to book and there is a fee to pay of about £25, but it is redeemable against the products and doesn't have to be redeemed on the day itself - so you can go away and see how the make up wears, and how friends and family react to it!)

The lipstick comes in an attractive bullet style packaging well designed for modern use - it looks slick but not overly fussy or prissy. The lipsticks themselves come in different textures but all are universally easy to apply, the colours are flattering, and the pigmentation even and heavy, so that the colouration is reliable and consistent. The lipsticks also have the advantage of being slightly moisturising - not so much that they slide off the lips, but enough to keep diehard gloss fans happy!

Lasting power is good and I achieve a minimum of 3/4 hours and several cups of tea or coffee before needing to reapply. The cost is a very competitive £11.50 or so - if this is more than you are used to paying I recommend investing in a good lip pencil and then you can make the lipsticks last longer by scraping out the (large) piece of the lipstick that ends up below the bottom of the wind up point.

Summary: Worth the investment
