I have this lipgloss in the shade ornamental which is a deep red with a bronze hint to it. It has a lovely sheen to it with a slight hint of shimmer and can be layered for a more nude daytime look or a dramatic bold red for evening, and the staying power is great. It has a slightly sweet scent to it but not enough to cause a reaction on sensitive skin. The main downside is that it can be quite sticky so I find I need to apply lip balm before this lip gloss to prevent a tacky feeling on my lips. The applicator is a small brush which picks up a good amount of product but is able to create a defined line around the lip as well. This is quite a pricey product, and I have used glosses with a nicer more moisturising texture that are around a similar price range, but the colour range is stunning.
I've never been too confident when it comes to lipsticks, opting instead for the natural look. Whilst I think that bold colours look beautiful on other people it's not a look I think I could carry off without looking like a clown! I guess I just don't like drawing too much attention to myself and a big, bold lipstick is a definite way of doing that! I have tried a few fairly neutral coloured lipsticks but have not found one that I really liked. I have also dabbled with various brands of lipgloss as opposed to lipstick but the ones that I have tried have been incredibly sticky and not too pleasant to use.
Around a year ago I went along to a makeover/photoshoot. It was a fun day out and also a good way of learning about new makeup products and techniques as the makeup artist used products on my face which I'd never considered before. One of these was a MAC lipgloss. When applied I was amazed at how light it felt on my lips without any of the stickiness which I'd previously experienced. I was so impressed I picked up one for myself on my next visit to John Lewis which has a MAC counter.
The lipgloss I opted for was part of the Lustreglass range and I opted unsurprisingly for a fairly neutral pale pink colour which is named'Luminary AC9'. The Lustreglass range of lipglosses have a bit of shimmer to them. Ordinarily I probably would not have opted for a sparkly lipgloss but this was the type used in my makeover so it was the one I went for. The lipgloss comes packaged in a black cardboard box as do many items in the MAC range. The box is fairly plain looking with just the MAC logo and product name along with a list of ingredients on one side and all written in white writing.
Inside the box is a small cylindrical plastic tube which contains the lipgloss. The tube has a black screw off lid which is attached to the applicator. I was pleased to note that this was a small brush (that resembled a nail polish brush) rather than a wand. I found this allowed the gloss to be applied more easily and evenly across my lips. The lipgloss itself has a nice consistency - it's not too runny but nor is it too thick and is easily applied onto the lips.
One thing that has stopped me from using lipglosses in the past was the fact that it would leave my lips feeling extremely sticky and quite heavy - a feeling I was not too keen on. I've also had problems with the longevity of previous products and would find that after having something to drink or a bite to eat the lipgloss would start to come off and need to be reapplied. However the MAC lipgloss differs in this respect. Once applied it does feel a little sticky but certainly not as much as previous products I have used. The shimmer in the lipgloss is quite subtle and this combined with the delicate colour makes my lips stand out and look lovely!
I was also impressed with the staying power of this gloss. I recently attended a wedding and put some of this on. An afternoon of meeting and greeting, drinks and food my lipgloss had barely any effect on the lipgloss and it stayed put. I did feel the need to reapply after about 6 hours but I think this is a decent length of time for a lipgloss to last and I certainly felt like I'd put it through its paces!
I bought the lipgloss for £12.95 which is a lot more than I would have ordinarily paid but the difference in quality of product is obvious and well worth paying extra for. It makes my lips look lovely without feeling too sticky and has very good staying power. Overall I am really pleased with this product and shall definitely repurchase once I run out.
