Advantages: works well to give lashes more thickness

Disadvantages: pretty much the same as other mascaras - nothing miraculous

The lazy sloth that I am, I often don't bother with my appearance, meaning I hardly wear make up unless I am going out and really can be bothered, or just wake up in a mood to look fabulous (haha not an often occasion!) but nevertheless I have my make up bag that occasionally sees the light of day and in it is my mascara from Mac.

I quite like Mac make up products and every year when it is my birthday (at least for the past 3 consecutive years anyway!) I go to their make up counter in Selfridges in London or their actual store in Covent Garden and treat myself to some of their lovely makeup. Last year november, for the first time I bought their mascara (this Mascara X) and recently I popped to a department store near where I live to re-stock!

It doesn't come cheap as it cost me about £18 which considering you can pick mascara up in Superdrug for £1 these days, but as I like the look of it, I decided to treat myself. It comes in a matt black tube which feels smooth, and it is a cylindrical shape. It has a screw top lid which when opened, the wand inside is attached to the lid. The wand has a thick bristle brush (yes my terminology lol) and has a curved edge to it.

I have this mascara in black and so I use it on my lashes to give them a bit more thickness and exuberance and for this it works a treat. It is not a gloopy mascara in any way and I find the brush easy to maneouver and do fine simple strokes for good, even coverage on top lashes and my bottom lashes (of which there are hardly any!). The mascara is quite thick, compared to a rimmel one I had not too long ago so it does bring out my lashes which I like.

It is not a waterproof mascara, although I'll be honest I haven't been blubbering when wearing it recently to put it to the test. Nevertheless it is not advertised as one, so I wouldn't recommend this for an extra sweaty person or an emotional one as I suspect you may end up with panda eyes!

I am not naiive as I used to be when I actually thought mascara gave you "extra long lashes" like in the adverts (when I now realise they are all wearing lash extensions of course!) so I don't expect miracles and this mascara sure doesn't create them. Nevertheless, I can see a vast difference when I have this on, and I feel I can flutter my lashes much more flirtatiously which is the effect we all want right? So for the price, some may feel it is just the name you are paying for, which in my opinion would be true. I have seen no huge difference between using the Mac mascara and using a Rimmel one which I also have, but I do like the look of all my Mac products in my make up bag so I tend to stick with this brand.

Summary: good mascara but only more expensive due to branding
