I bought some MAC Mineralize skinfinish from the website Cohorted which has a shop on it as well as auction style (fixed price listings) buy ins. I don't really have much make up from mac, just the odd lipstick and when I saw this I can't explain why but I really wanted to try it. I ordered medium deep (despite reservations that this may be a bit dark for me).
When my Cohorted order turned up I was pleased to see that the mineralize was not as dark as I feared. It is a domed pan with baked product on it that is described as a bronzer. It has no glitter or sparkle in it which is good and can act as a finishing powder as well as a bronzer.
I'd go darker for a bronzer and lighter for a powder and this is somewhere in the middle. This works well for me on days when I don't have much time and I just want a bit of colour on my face to take some of that pasty ness away. I think this will last me for ages.
I paid around £20 for my product but I understand it costs more in store. £24 in Debenhams. You get 10g product in the compact.
What they say..
A luxurious domed face powder with minerals, slowly baked to provide a dimensional yet natural-matte finish. Provides perfect light coverage. Use to set and fix foundation or as a touch-up throughout the day.
I have an older version with no mirror in it, the new ones have a mirror in them which is far better. You need a decent powder brush to apply this product, it buffs on really easily. I am pretty pleased with this powder and the gamble over the colour paid off in the end!
I received this Mac Mineralize SkinFinish Natural as a gift recently. It is a face powder which is enriched with a mineral formula to provide a light and natural cover.
My product is packaged in a black cardboard box with full ingredients and company contact details printed on the back. There is a range of shades for this product and I have ‘Light Plus’ which is the colour “pale golden beige” and is one of the lightest colours available. It has a golden sheen to it which looks like it might be too dramatic but which is more translucent once on the skin.
The powder is a pressed powder and mine came with no applicator brush. It comes in a little round compact case. The top of the case is transparent so you can see how much product is left. The lid clicks into the base but I have found that it is not that secure a fit and my lid slips back open if I carry it in my handbag.
The powder is easy to pick up on a brush. The top of the powder is indented so you tend to pick up just how much you need. It is then easily transferred to the skin and adheres to the surface immediately. It is so easy to apply without needing to work a lot on getting even and full coverage. It just goes on effortlessly.
The powder gives a beautiful and natural looking finish. I love that it doesn’t make me look too overdone but instead awards a natural look whilst allowing me to cleverly conceal any blemishes and discoloration on my face and neck. It has a lovely healthy glow to it that does not look like make-up shimmer but rather more simply gives the impression of healthy, glowing skin. It’s the perfect face powder for me, basically. It doesn’t ever look too thick and it never looks powdery on the skin but it still covers shine and discoloration so well.
This is a rather expensive product at GBP23.00 for a 10g or 0.35 US OZ sized compact. I would, however, recommend investing in one of these if you need a very fine, sophisticated look for work or for a big event. I would definitely consider buying this again as I love it.
MAC Mineralize Skinfinish retails for £18.50 from MAC Stores, counters at Selfridges, Debenhams and also from maccosmetics.co.uk.
What MAC Says
A luxurious domed face powder with minerals, slowly baked to provide a dimensional yet natural-matte finish. Provides perfect low coverage. Use to set and fix foundation or as a touch-up throughout the day.
I purchased this a a light coverage powder that sets your make-up and keeps away the shine but also leaves you looking healthy and radient. I had struck the right balance here.
I am a NW15 in MaC and chose the corresponding Light Powder. It's available in 8 shades - Light, Light Medium, Medium, Medium Plus, Medium deep, Medium Dark, Dark, and Deep Dark.
The powder has a low coverage that if you are not confident about your skin you will find the coverage at a bare minimum. If you are confident with your skin however, this powder will cover enough to leave you looking matte and 'made up'.
The pay off from the packaging is excellent. Only a little is required to cover your whole face and because it is baked into a dome this powder will last you longer, approximately 2-3 months if used regularly.
If used to set your foundation you will notice a difference in its lasting power but will hardly notice you are wearing powder, if you want more coverage, this will need touching up throughout the days as they fade.
This powder is very minimal and is perfect for a natural look.
The only problem you may have with this powder is how it is packaged. There is no mirror or an applicator with the product so re-application may be more difficult. I have seen, however, people depotting this powder pan from the container into another MAC face product to make application more convenient.
This powder is expensive but if you want the look that is achieved when using this, you get what you pay for.
