Advantages: Good coverage, built in applicator, large range of colours, SPF 15

Disadvantages: Expensive, hard to use a brush instead of the built in applicator

Mineralize SPF 15 Loose Foundation is a mineral foundation from MAC. I prefer to use MAC foundations over other brands as they go pale enough for my skin colour. I also like mineral powder products as I have very oily skin so they tend to be more suitable and last better than liquids on me.

The foundation comes in 10 different colours ranging from extra light through to deeper dark. I use the extra light colour which I think would be suitable for most people with very pale skin like me. The range is extensive enough that most skin tones should be able to find a colour to match.

It comes in a black plastic tub with a screw lid. The lid has a handle as you can see in the photo above that I found very comfortable to hold when applying the product. Inside the lid is a sponge that can be used to apply the foundation. When you first open it you'll find a small piece of sponge that you need to discard- it's to protect the product, not an applicator. Underneath that is a disc with a series of slots that the product comes though.

I found the best way to get the powder onto the sponge was to give it a little shake with the lid closed. This left a small quantity of it on the sponge ready to apply. I applied it in circular motions, a little at a time, building up coverage as needed. It goes on fairly lightly at first but it's easy to build up as much as you want and overall I'd class the coverage as medium. The overall look was matte and it nicely covered pores and uneven skin tone.

I think it might be a little better to apply this with a proper mineral foundation brush, but I haven't yet worked out how to get the powder onto a brush without making a mess so I've stuck with the sponge. I am however perfectly happy with how it looks when using the built in applicator.

The foundation lasted well and I only needed a minimal touch up to my nose (the oiliest area) after about 6-8 hours. I did this easily by adding a little more of the foundation. It contains moisturisers, conditioners and and SPF 15 so it's good for your skin as well as looking good. The moisturisers are light enough for those of us with oily skin so if you have very dry skin you might want to make sure you moisturise as well.

Removing this foundation was very easy- I simply used my usual make up remover and it came off with no problems and no residue left behind.

This costs £22.50 for 8.5g of foundation which is on the expensive side for foundation, even from MAC. When compared to other mineral products however I don't think it's unreasonable and I'm happy to pay it again.

Summary: An excellent quality mineral foundation that's easy to apply
