Advantages: Very good value, beautiful colours and finishes
Disadvantages: Loose powder product
Pigments are a multi-purpose loose powder that comes in a range of colours and finishes! Most people use them as eyeshadows or liners, but you can do so much with them including adding to nail varnish or clear lipgloss or using certain colours as highlighters, bronzers or even blushers.
Pigments were the first ever product that I used from the brand MAC, and I was really impressed by the great range of colours and most of all the pigmentation - the colours of the pigments are absolutely stunning!
As I have used more and more MAC and explored other brands of make up, I do find that I hardly ever use my pigments anymore for a couple of reasons... firstly, they can be quite hard to apply. They come in a small jar that has no sifter or anything, so if you drop this it's ruined. I find it easiest to empty a little into the lid and work with that, or even better if you can find some small 5g plastic jars transfer a sample into that and keep the large jar separate. Secondly, the fall out! As this product is a loose powder, when you apply it you do end up with an awful lot of it on your face in places you did not intend to apply it! This, however, is more of a reason why I dislike loose powder products instead of MAC pigments in particular.
MAC pigments are incredibly good value. Though the jar isn't large in size, you only need to use a tiny amount of the pigment each time so they will last you for AGES. Considering MAC eyeshadows are £10, paying £15 for a jar of pigment that will last you three times as long is very reasonable in my opinion.
There is not as big a range of colours and finishes as there is with MAC eyeshadows, but you do have a fair selection including bright shades and neutral colours and matte, shimmery and glitter finishes so there is bound to be at least one of these that you like!
If you have not tried MAC pigments before and are looking to try one I would recommend Vanilla or Pink Opal, which can all be used as excellent brow and face highlighters as well as eyeshadows; Chocolate Brown which is a gorgeous, rich, warm brown colour or Teal for those who prefer the more brighter shades (it is STUNNING as a liner with a brown/neutral eye make up look).
Summary: Though not my favourite type of make up, the MAC pigments are a very good quality product
