Advantages: It moisturises the skin well
Disadvantages: None, except the intial outlay.
M.A.C. Cosmetics are not always the first brand that I look at, on the whole I always seem to be drawn to the more well known brand names like L`Oreal or Max Factor, names that seem to have been with us forever. The M.A.C. Company was founded in 1985 and by 1994 M.A.C was part of the cosmetics giant Estee Lauder.
In 1994 the M.A.C. Aids fund was created to offer a global means of support to those who live with the HIV/AIDS virus.
It seems that M.A.C don't intend to let the grass grow under their feet, as well as offering crucial support to AIDS sufferers and their families they also promote beauty without cruelty ( no product is ever tested on animals ) and they actively recycle so that our natural resources aren't wasted.
M.A.C. Provide quite an extensive range of cosmetics but they have branched out and offered
their customers far more including make up brushes, fragrance, make up tools and applicators and some really attractive make up bags, some of which are unisex.
Good make up brushes and applicators can often be expensive, M.A.C. Brushes are no exception and as much as I would love to own a few that is something that will have to be added to my wishlist.
The M.A.C. Prep and Prime Lip is quite an interesting product to talk about. Being the proud owner of countless lipsticks I think I am well qualified to give a good opinion on this offering from M.A.C.
A while back when I paid a visit to our local designer outlet I bought a brand name lip colour that came with a primer, the coral lip colour was brilliant - as long as you made the effort to prime your lips first ! I was a bit sceptical about the need for any primer and on one particular morning when I was in a hurry I just applied the lip colour minus primer.
That was a big mistake, the lip colour used on its own made my lips feel sticky and uncomfortable, my lips kept trying to cling to each other and the matte colour sank into the skin on my lips and stained the skin quite heavily - so then I could see why it was so important to use the lip primer first.
The M.A.C Prep and Prime Lip comes in a plain black slimline casing, the tube has a twist mechanism and when you twist the tube of primer upwards all you see is a white waxy opaque stick.
You apply the primer to your lips and it moisturises the skin, any dry skin scales are soon smoothed out. When you use the primer for the first time you may think that the tasteless moisturiser feels like a lip salve. Your lips feel slightly greasy and it is better to wait a few moments before you carry on and apply a coat of lipstick.
Once the layer of M.A.C. Prep and Prime has been absorbed into the skin just coat your lips with colour as normal, the lip primer just helps to create a good looking finish.
I have only recently read an article about the product and it intimated that a layer of M.A.C. Prep and Prime made the lips look fuller, I would have to disagree with that comment - from my point of view it is sheerly a skin moisturising product and the primer makes no difference to the way my lips look.
On one hand I think that the product is a good one and there is room for it on the market, it ensures that you achieve a good finish with the top coat of colour. I don't feel that the primer makes my lipstick stay in place any longer either, I still need to re-apply as usual.
The 0.05g tube of M.A.C. Prep and Prime will cost you somewhere around the £9 mark, as you would imagine the small tube goes a long way.
So the product has got a lot going for it but you can easily moisturise your lips with far cheaper creams and oils. I have a tub of Vaseline and often use a dab to moisturise my lips and it does a very good job.
At the end of the day the choice is yours, if you feel that you want to pay that amount of money for skin priming product - one that fits into any sized handbag and can be taken anywhere - then M.A.C Prep and Prime is one to look out for.
But if you feel that it is slightly overpriced and that you can live without it then you may well think about investing in a tub of something far less expensive.
Summary: A good skin priming product.
