Advantages: Really effective, a great base before you apply your foundation which results in flawless results
Disadvantages: Like all MAC products it comes with a high label price tag
As I have said in previous reviews about MAC products they started out as a cosmetic brand that was designed for make-up artists but it soon developed a high profile and due to popularity it soon found itself in department stores across the world available to the general public.
When I recently went to one of the MAC counters at one of my local department stores to get some advice and purchase some foundation the assistant carried out a colour test to make sure that the colour of the foundation which she had chosen was suitable for my skin tone. After removing the makeup I was already wearing she applied some Prep and prime to my skin before applying the foundation, she explained that the principle of the primer is to prepare the skin before the application of the foundation that it would soothe the skin, blot away any excess oil that the skin had preventing any shine through, that it also acts as a filler to fill any pitting to the face and would provide a smooth base for the application of the foundation. She also suggested that it would allow the foundation to last longer without fading.
The Prep and prime is nicely presented, it comes in a stylish black box and inside is a 30ml pump dispenser, I always find pump dispensers a big bonus as it means you can measure out the product more effectively preventing wastage and it makes it more hygienic to dispense too.
After cleansing and moisturising my face I apply the Prep and prime all over my face nice and evenly, I usually find that one pump is more than adequate for full coverage of my face. It's of smooth gel like consistency that glides easily all over my face leaving it soothed and feeling calmer and a lot smoother. There is no oily residue or that sticky feeling. Upon application of my foundation I found that the foundation applied far more easily than if I was not to use the primer first and upon application of the foundation it gave me a flawless finish.
True to the assistants word I've noticed that I don't find myself having to retouch my make up during the day and that with the application of the primer I get no shine through compared to if I was just to use the foundation on its own so I rarely have to touch up my makeup which is a great bonus in my eyes.
As MAC is a high end brand it does come with a high label price tag, the Prep and Prime retails at £16 for a 30ml pump dispenser but I definitely think that it is worth it.
Another great product from MAC that I almost certainly will be purchasing again
Summary: A great primer for use under your foundation
