Advantages: This product works, helps you achieve a flawless base for precise and makeup closer to perfection.
Disadvantages: May be a little pricey for some, can't tell when product will run out.
After discovering face primer 5 years ago I had completely forgotten about it until I noticed it selling on the MAC website, I used the Models Prefer range primer before when they used to sell it on QVC and love the product but unfortunately they stopped making this range and rebranded, sadly I had forgotten about this product until recently.
Ok, so MAC is a premium makeup range used by professional makeup artists world wide. MAC is well known and famous for the high pigmentation of their products, which gives really vibrant striking looks and great blendability. Eyeshadows, lipglasses, lipsticks and blusher come in a great range of textures and finishes so whether you are going to a photoshoot or down the catwalk or to tea at grans, there is a product suitable, and more often than not adaptable, for any occasion. MAC products can be ordered online on their official website or at your nearest store, they offer next day delivery and free standard delivery over £50.00.
When looking for a skin primer I look for light products that glide on with ease and are silky to the touch, you are aiming to have the 'perfect canvas' to 'paint' on, the primer fills in pores and wrinkles to help create a flawless even base. Value for money is key as well and we can judge this by the durability, practicality, application, price and how well the product lasts.
This product currently costs £16.50 and comes in the classic black MAC packaging, a black box with the MAC logo and product name, prep and prime underneath. at the bottom it states 'Skin base visage. and 30ML/1.0 US FL OZ. On the back it shows the ingrediesnts that include green tea extract and mulberry root extract (fancy!. There is also a warning stating to not use on the lip area. Inside is a black round bottle stating the same information but without the ingredients. Would be worth keeping the box incase of allergic reactions etc. The only bad point about the packaging is that the bottle is opaque, meaning you dont know when to buy a new bottle until you run out.
This 'lotion' is of a white appearance and has no obvious fragrance. The 'lotion' is silky in texture and light to the touch. I applied a tiny 'blob' the size of a chocolate chip onto my fingers and gently rubbed onto my face in circular motions to the eye area nose cheeks and forehead, the main areas that will have makeup applied and any excess will cover the rest. This small amount spread very well, and when applied was clear and felt very very silky. There was no tell tale signs that the product was sitting on my skin which is a good sign that this product is very good quality.
Now the testing. First I applied a concealer around my eyes, this glided on with ease and immediately I could see the difference. I did not need to worry about product layering too much as the base meant that the product gave full coverage evenly first time. I don't use foundation however do use bronzer and blush. When I applied the blush and bronzer sweep on with ease and looks flawless and polished, without the primer you would be able to see bumps and imperfections, a less polished look. Eyeshadow spreads and blends evenly with the primer, I feel I have halfed the time taken usually to apply makeup flawlessly, which in my book is definately important being a mum and on the go.
Overall, I cant fault the product except it is pricey for those who have pulled in those purse strings for the new year, for me I think it is a bargain and I would not hesitate to buy this product again. The best advice I can give is that for those things that you feel are important to you or make you feel good, eg wearing and applying makeup, it is definately worth spending the extra money, however if you don't wear makeup much then you may feel it not a necessity for you. My bottle has lasted 4 months of every other day usage and it is still going strong I would expect another 2 months hopefully more.
Edited to add - MAC have now reduced their free delivery spend to £35.00! :)
Summary: If you love wearing makeup then this is the primer you have been looking for, worth every penny.
