Finding the right foundation can be a challenge, it certainly was for me anyway. For years I had been in the middle of a balancing act battling acne prone skin which would break out when oily and then get dry and irritated if I tried to use most Clearasil type face washes. It took a long time to sort out my skin, with help from my mum and Doctor it was 6 years to finally get everything right, and part of it was that I needed to find a non-oily foundation that I wasn't allergic to (big challenge).
After a lot of research on the internet I went to the MAC counter found the perfect shade which never happens, the selection of skin tones is great there are so many, from very pale to black skin tones there's no doubt they will have the right colour for you. At £19.50 MAC Select isn't the cheapest foundation but it's defiantly worth it. It gives good coverage and a matt finish, evens out my slightly patchy marked skin without making me look pale or plastic and absorbs some of the oil from my T zone.
The make-up isn't heavy, sticky or as I've said oily at all, it pretty long lasting but I do normally end up redoing my makeup at some point in the day. I always found Select to be quite runny but my latest bottle seems to be a bit thicker than previous ones, not thick but less watery. But it's still the same coverage etc. and I have been finding it easier to apply evenly since this little change.
Overall, MAC Select is a great foundation, I never feel like it's caked on and it's a perfect colour match and perfect for my awkward skin and with SPF 15 my skin feels looked after. My skin can breathe! I would recommend to anyone with oily skin. And to anyone reading with acne problems this is great to give your skin a break if you're caking on a mask of makeup to cover up spots and scars every day. It isn't going to mask much by itself, but if you seriously want to have clearer skin I would recommend this foundation as a part of your skin care routine if you're like how I was and hated having no makeup on, it's a step in the right direction.
At £19.50 for 30ml, Mac Select foundation is not the cheapest on the market, and is more than I would normally spend. However I decided to buy this product after a make up artist used it on me and I was impressed with the results. Also I have very pale skin and this range is one of the few foundations I have found that has a shade to match my skin tone. There are 21 shades in total, although most are at the paler end of the spectrum and women with darker skin might not be able to find a match in this range.
The foundation comes in a small glass jar with a chunky black lid. I think I may have opened my bottle wrong the first time as there is no brush, applicator or 'squeezy thing' to get the liquid out! I have a feeling its stuck in the lid! So I can't comment on that aspect of the product, sorry!
The foundation is a smooth liquid, not too thick but not too watery either. It feels more like a moisturiser when you apply it which is probably to do with the fact that its also a sunscreen with spf15. This is great bonus, especially as ordinary sunscreens can feel really greasy and look very shiny when applied to the face. With this foundation you can be protected from the sun (although not all day, you have to re-apply either this or a different sunscreen through the day) and feel 'put together' and presentable too!
Mac Select is great for covering dark circles under eyes and small blemishes but it isn't a concealer, so more noticeable marks still show through.
This foundation seems like its really kind to your skin. You don't need to use tons and tons to get a nice, even coverage and it doesn't feel like it clogs your pores, you aren't aware of it at all after applying it. It comes off really easily with baby wipes but not onto your clothes.
Basically, I can really tell the difference in quality between this Mac foundation and the cheaper brands I'd been using before. I'd say its good value for money despite being on the pricier side and I plan to stick with this brand for the forseeable future.
I have used several other of Macs foundations and this is by far the best. The first foundation I tried made me look too shiny and the next seemed too thick and I felt too made up. The Select foundation is matched perfectly to my skin and covers really well. It is quiet runny and this took a little bit to get used to but apart from that I love it. I never feel caked in and because of the excellent colour match I don't get those tell tale lines along my jaw. It is thick enough to cover my spots and imperfections, although I do use concealer too when I need to, it lasts all day and has enough shine in it to give that healthy glow. After a few months of using it I tried another brands tinted moisturiser and it look awful - it just didn't match my skin tone. Overall this is an excellent product that I will buy again once I run out.
Mac Foundation - DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY! It started off looking great but eventually rubs off and makes your face look like it's melting also, i used to have perfect skin until i invested in this foundation and it made me break out like crazy! I'm currently going doc's about my problem.I should have stuck to my original max factor foundation because this one was very bad! i wouldn't recommend this to anyone.
I have used MAC Select foundation now for over two years and i must say that it is one of the best foundations i have ever worn. It is perfectly suited to my skin and is the only foundation that really covers all of the blemishes on my face. If I use it with other MAC products such as the Mineralize Skin Finish powder foundation it works wonders, I look like a celeb! I would really reccomend this product to anyone, its light, doesnt look like its been caked on even when you apply a lot on and it lasts which makes it perfect for nights out on the town as I dont have to worry about continuously applying more makeup. Allthough rather expensive at £19 per bottle I would rather pay this extra money to know that I am receiving a good quality product and as of yet I havent found another foundation thats works as good as or better than this, I thoroughly reccomend it.
I bought this Mac foundation for £19 in August. It is definately worth the money! It is a water-based liquid foundation and non oily. Really easy to use and looks really natural on your face. Blends in well with your skin tone and gives great coverage! Doesnt make your face look orange. Comes in a small glass bottle but last absolutely ages! Mine has lasted almsot 5 months now, so it is definately worth the price!
There are always staff at the MAC counters to help you pick the right foundation, and there are loads of different colours available to match your skin colour. The price does not include the pump but you dont really need it anyway, as the foundation pours out easily.
I find it is easier to apply this foundation using my fingers.
Best foundation ever! Gives you a great flawless look! Definately will buy this foundation again.
In the past Ive always used Virgin vie/ Vie foundation but in recent months they decided to discontinue the foundation which I had been using so I found myself back to square one for the search for a reliable foundation.
I suffer from quiete dry and sensitive skin which can become oily in the t-zone area which has always caused problems when trying to find that perfect foundation that provides me with that flawless coverage that still looks natural and lasts all day.
I had heard many good reports about MAC make-up and a close friend was always raving about how good the makeup was so I decided to go to one of the MAC counters at one of my local department stores to speak to one of the assistants, straight away one of the girls came over to ask if I required any assistance so I explained to her my requirements and the fact that I have had problems in the past finding that perfect foundation, explaining that I wanted a foundation that would completely cover any imperfections yet still looked natural as I hated foundations which were thick and laid heavy on the skin. Straight away she had me sitting down and was testing on me a shade which she thought would be suitable for my complexion, to my amazement she was spot of the first time. She used some Prep and Prime first which acts as a soother, a filler for any pitting of the skin and smoothes the skin to make it easier for the application of the foundation. Next she applied the foundation with a foundation brush and I was really surprised at the results, a flawless finish that looked natural, No noticeable dreaded jaw lines, it had blended perfectly with my skin.
Now MAC started out as a cosmetic brand that was designed for make-up artists but it soon developed a high profile and due to popularity it soon found itself in department stores across the world available to the general public.
they are known for their extreme colours (I dont think there is a colour I havent seen them do) and their foundations and powders cater for virtually every skin tone that you can imagine but being a high end brand it comes with a high end price label, this product retails at £19.50, £21.50 if you purchase the pump aplicator too which to be honest I think is totally justifiable for the high quality and results which it provides.
The foundation is nicely presented, it comes in a stylist black box and inside is a 30ml glass bottle with black screw on lid although if you would prefer a pump applicator you can additionally purchase one for £2.50 which I believe is worth it as it means you can measure out the foundation more effectively preventing wastage and it makes it more hygienic to dispense.
The MAC Select SPF15 Foundation is a water based foundation which provides a medium coverage so it looks soft and natural on the skin, it allows the skin to breathe and because its Hypoallergenic its suitable for sensitive skin which is absolutely great for me as it causes no irritation and it is available in 21 shades so you should have no problem finding a suitable shade to match your skin tone.
To apply I first moisturise my face apply MAC Prep and Prime and then use a foundation brush working my way from the centre out using short quick strokes but depending on preference you can use a sponge or clean fingers, I've also found that you only need to use a minimal amount to cover the entire face so I'm expecting my bottle to last me a fair while.
I find that the liquid consistency means that the foundation glides really easily over my skin and provides a really good even coverage hiding any imperfections or dark circles under the eyes. It lasts through the day so you hardly ever need to touch it up. What I also like is the fact that you can layer up this foundation which I tend to do when I'm going for an evening out and tend to use a little more make up than that during the day
All in all I absolutely love this foundation and will almost certainly be purchasing it again once I start running low
I have very fair skin so when I had a voucher for a free make up consultation at MAC I was very impressed by the range of colours, textures and applications you had for foundation. ALthough ym skin changes colour dramaticall from winter to summer, I have foundation to match both colours. The MAC no. 2 I use in the winter.
The consultation was fabulous and the artist tried loads of colours to find the perfect one. The foudnation is easy to apply and you put this on the back of you hand and wipe on with fingers, make up brush or sponge. I use a sponge. The foundation takes a while to sink into the skin so I leave it about 30 minutes before reapplying the rest of my make up. Otherwise you still look slightly oily, and sometimes the colour and light isnt actually the final finish. It lasts all day without constant touching. I would recommend powder and concealor as this product will not do all three! It lasts for ages and the consistency of the foundation doesnt change.
Another good thing is the spf 15. I used this foudnation in the summer (looked very pale) but realised that I didnt egt burnt on my face, even though I forgot to use suncream due to the spf in the foundation.
At £18 it isnt the most expensive foundation and is well worth a place on any make up table.
I would recommend that you get the foundation matched by a professional!
This is my favourite foundation of them all and is well worth the money. I have very fair skin so its difficult to fin a foundation that doesn't give that orange tinge. I usually buy this from Harvey Nichols in Leeds and the girls on the MAC counter are always helpful and are happy to discuss the best product for you including coverage needed and finding the perfect shade. You can even have your details computerised so you don't have to remember your code number (which is a nightmare if you've traveled into the town centre without it!)
The foundation itself gives very good coverage without you feeling you are wearing too much makeup. It does go on smoothly but doesn't tend to last all day so pressed powder on top is also a must. Its application is easy and this foundation is one of the only ones I can use due to my skin being quite sensitive.
The only downside is that MAC is a bit of an exclusive brand meaning trips into Leeds have to be frequent and this product would be ideal if some other Department stores, or even Boots, stocked MAC makeup.
I'd definitely recommend this product.
I have tried most products on the market, im a self confessed make up junkie and I love "big" brands. I really like Mac makeup and brushes in particular. But try as I might I cannot make my mind up about this product.
Mac Ladies work very hard with their customers to ensure they match the colour of your skin to a foundation, they spend time trying different shades on your face, its definitely worth asking rather than guessing your shade.
The colour of my foundation is exact, cannot fault that. What im not sure on is the consistency of the product, I find it isn't very easy to rub in and even though the foundation is water based I find it a little greasy in texture, it doesn't look greasy on my face though. Another small gripe I have is the staying power of the make up I find it doesn't stay on my skin all day, it wears of pretty quickly
The product in packaged in Mac signature style, a clear glass bottle, with a screw black lid (you can buy a pump to fit the bottle from the Mac counter) with Mac written in black on the clear glass.
Priced at £18 for 30ml , comes in 21 different shades. It contains an spf 15 which is good (means a separate spf isn't needed before application) and is available where ever Mac is stocked (debenhams, House of Fraser etc)
Would I buy this again...im not sure.
Writing a review for a MAC product when I am such a MAC lover is going to be fun no matter what!
I've always heard bad things about MAC's foundation, but on a whim I decided to splash out for a more expensive foundation. I visited a counter in London and got to try out the foundation before purchasing.
You can get this foundation in a wide variety of shades, and they are split into two categories - Warm and Cool, which make up the NW (warm) and NC (cool) letters before the shade number. I am NW20, which isn't the palest shade, and I have bit of red in my face, wherefore am "warm". The glass foundation bottle holds 30ml, which doesn't sound that much, but it lasts for a long time.
This foundation goes on well whatever I use to apply it! I have used a foundation brush, a stippling brush and my fingers, and each time it goes on very well. It has excellent coverage, but I wouldn't use it on its own. I still use it with a face primer and concealer, as well as sheer pressed powder afterwards to stop light reflecting on my skin, as it is very bumpy. It doesn't go on too thickly, and for the consistency you would hardly believe the coverage it actually achieves!
I would suggest you get a pump for around £2 with your foundation, to ensure you receive the best use of it possible, with less waste.
Overall I would say this is well worth the money. I have only been using it for 3 months now, and I certainly hope to continue using it. I even love the smell of it.
I love this so much, i use it as my everyday foundation and i set it with a Mineralised Skin Finish in Natural!
I use the colour NW25, which is just perfect for me!
It's so light and does not feel as if i am even wearing any foundation!
It is available in 21 different shades, with both NW an NC shades (meaning Warm and Cool undertones in your skin tone)
It has SPF 15, which fair enough you don't really need at the moment, as it is winter! lol! But it does come in super handy in Summer, especially if your going on holiday!
I find that it lasts all day, and does not appear cakey, and i certainly don't look like i've applied with a trough, or have been tangoed! Just gives me a nice clean, natural, healthy look!
I can't stress how much i love this product!! BUY IT!
"Select SPF 15" was the first of MAC's foundation that I tried.
It promised medium coverage with a fresh, semi-matte finish.
Upon first application, I was pleased. I had a great colour match (Not surprising really, since MAC have such an extensive range of foundation shades, though perhaps not the for the palest, most cool toned of us...) that I can rarely achieve with other brands.
It dried quickly and didn't leave me with a tacky, damp finish as some liquid foundations tend too. The coverage wasn't too great, I would say it is more of a "light-medium" personally. I still needed to use a good concealer and setting powder with this, but in general I was happy with Select.
However, thoughout the day I could feel my usually normal/dry skin becoming a little oiler than usual and noticed that the foundation had started to oxidise (When foundation mixes with the natural oils in your skin and turns a darker, more orange toned colour.) This is a big no-no for me, since I am very pale.
Disapointed, but I decided to keep trying this foundation for about a week to see if it worked any better for me. Unfortunately it didn't, even with an oil controlling primer underneath.
However, a few friends of mine really like this foundation, so it really is something you need to try for yourself. Most MAC staff are friendly enough to give you a small sample if you ask nicely :-)
To apply I used a flat foundation brush (MAC #190) and applied a few dots of foundation onto my skin, before blending downwards and outwards using short buffing motions.
This foundation was recommended to me by a make up artist when I was modelling, but I struggle to see why!
I bought this slightly cheaper at the airport before going on holiday and was looking forward to using it on the first night.
The first time I applied it, I was really happy with the outcome.
However, whenever I have used it since I am really disappointed with the quality, coverage and consistency of this foundation.
First of all, it is more of a liquid than a creamy foundation, which means when applied to the skin it is hard to make even all over the skin.
When on the skin, it takes a yellow/orange type colour, which is different to the foundation, and looks just awful.
It has a random coverage, so there will be lots in one area and hardly any in the other.
My main problem is that it makes my skin soooooo dry. I put it on and immediately brings up dry skin even if there was none there before.
It is also a bit smelly!
On the positive...it comes nicely presented!
As you can see, I am not a fan of this product and would never use it again. I actually threw it in the bin a while ago - waste of money.
This was actually one of my first ever MAC foundations. The first ever one is a type of liquid foundation that they no longer produce and I can't think what it's called... This was my second liquid foundation, and though the results I got from it were better than the first, the current one I'm using definitely surpasses this one! I think this one costs about 19 pounds.
So this foundation comes in a glass bottle with a black lid and the shades vary from warm to cool tones, in an array of shades that will cater to light, medium to dark tones. Most people will find a shade that will suit their colour in the MAC range.
What I first noticed about this foundation, was that it smelt strange. It almost smelt gone off, but not quite. I went back to the shop and the make up artist told me that this was how all the other liquid foundations in this range smell. Very strange I thought, as it's actually quite unpleasant in my opinion.
The feel of the liquid was slightly sticky but the coverage was good and long lasting. This foundation gives you quite a dewy effect if you wear it on its own. If you want a more matte finish, just brush some blot powder or other face powder over the top and it will look matte.
I'm currently using the MAC mineralise foundation and find this much better. Though it also gives a nice dewy glow, it won't feel very heavy or sticky and that horrible scent is non-existent. Since buying the mineralise foundation, I won't be buying this one again as I feel this would be a downgrade.
A water-based liquid foundation that is non-oily and provides a fresh, natural matte finish / Combines medium coverage with SPF 15 to protect your skin / Available in 21 shades /
