I don't think full on lipstick suits me but I also feel that my lips are too plain without anything on them at all. I like Mac's products and they are usually of a high quality so I don't mind splashing out that bit more on them. For these reasons I chose the Sheen Supreme Lipstick by Mac.
What does the product do?
The product promises to give the colour of a lipstick but with the sheen of a lip gloss. It claims to be light weight and comfortable on the lips and isn't sticky. It claims that it will make your lips look pretty and it is the perfect lipstick/gloss hybrid.
The product comes in a range of shades that go from pinks to red and browns to purples. They come with cute and interesting names like Behave yourself, Ultra darling, Can't resist and Fashion City. I bought the pale pink Behave Yourself shade which has a creamy finish.
How do you use the product?
The product needs to be applied to clean, dry lips which have been hydrated with a balm first. It can be sweeped straight onto the lips and it can be reapplied as much as often.
Packaging and Price
The product comes in the classy black packaging which is common with all of Mac products. It is contained with a plastic black tube that is plain other than Mac being written in white writing. You twist the tube upwards in order to access more of the product and it is protected by a black lid. The product will cost you around £14 and it can be bought from stores with a Mac counter such as Debenhams and also from a range of online websites.
Application and Performance
The product smells a little sweet and a bit like vanilla which I love. I know it's not the most important thing in the world for a lip product to have a nice smell but it is an added bonus for something which you are applying directly beneath the lips. The lipstick has a really creamy consistency which I love because I've found the dryer the consistency of a lipstick, the more it shows up any dry or flakey skin. It glides onto the lips easily because of the consistency and it doesn't pull or drag the skin as you apply it. It feels completely comfortable and quite hydrating right away and it hasn't caused any irritations on my lips.
The colour that you see on the actual product translate pretty well to the lips. I chose a candyfloss pink colour and it is a really pretty and girly shade. It not very classy, being more of a fun shade, so I save it for evenings and days out as opposed to work. It very evident and it has the most gorgeous shiny finish which resembles that of a lip gloss without having to suffer the stickiness or the tackiness. The colour does stick around for quite a few hours although it will get transferred to cups and mugs when you drink.
All in all, this is a lovely product which combines the best bits of a lipstick with the best bits of a gloss. It is creamy and comfortable on the lips and gives them a lovely splash of colour with a shiny glossy finish. The product is long lasting on the lips and you don't need to apply much of the product in order to get the desired results so you won't have to buy a new one in a hurry. I really like this product and I would happily purchase another shade.
MAC Sheen Supreme Lipstick
With the summer finally here we can at last relax and enjoy some sunny days, and with that comes the opportunity to wear less make-up, or to at least choose products that are summery and fresh. I must admit that at this time of year I tend to wear lighter foundations and veer towards a more glossy lipstick, or even a gloss by itself, especially when on holiday. This is why I love the MAC Sheer Supreme lipstick which combines a gloss and a lip colour all in one.
Retailing for £13.50 from Debenhams or from MAC direct, these lipsticks are not inexpensive, but it is always worth looking for discounts - for example there is often 10% off at Debenhams , and more savings to be made if you have one of their beauty cards. This isn't a credit card in anyway, it purely rewards you for loyalty and the savings really add up to some very worthwhile discounts. I also find that shopping online with Debenhams often seems to yield a freebie or two in the parcel, which is an added bonus and allows you to sample some new products. Delivery is also free if you are a member of this scheme.
The lipsticks are said to combine the colour impact of a lipstick with the shine sheen of a gloss, and for me this represents an accurate description of what these are. Available in many colours I have two absolute favourites- Bare Again and Can't get Enough. Both of these shades are pinky or peachy brown and are so easy to wear colours. I found these shades through intensive research on YouTube and over on Makeupalley.com where I was able to formulate a solid opinion of what these colours would represent, and the research paid off because these have become my all time favourite lipsticks. I really recommend this way of purchasing cosmetics, because by typing in the shades into YouTube you will often find a reviewer who will talk about their experiences, and Makeupalley, whilst not visual, has excellent written content. This site really gives an accurate description of the colours as well as the overall customer experience of the brand and variant.
The lipstick is so easy to apply, it simply glides onto the lips effortlessly and it leaves them moisturised and so pretty. You don't need a lip liner if you prefer not to use one, and the result is still a beautiful soft lip that feels so lovely. The longevity of the lipstick is enhanced by using a primer, but to be honest I think these are just ideal to apply and go. Yes maybe they don't last as long as a more matte lipstick would, especially after eating or drinking, but I just re-apply. I think if you find this a problem it would count as a negative aspect to these which definitely don't stay as long as a MAC lipstick would. For me though this is more than made up for by the beautiful way this looks on the lips, and if I want more lasting qualities I will apply a nude/pinky brown lip liner underneath. To give you an idea I find these last about 3 hours without re-application.
Bare Again was a shade I already owned when I saw a make-up artist on You tube- Pixywoo recommending it as a colour Jay-lo would wear! I was delighted as I already owned this shade, and as I really like her I was delighted to have found a lipstick she would certainly be seen in! I have since realised why I love it so much as it is almost exactly the same shade as my all time favourite MAC Matte lipstick- Velvet Teddy - so now I have the same version but in a glossy format- perfect for summer!
The other shade I really love is called Can't get Enough which is a very similar shade, but this is slightly more peach toned than Bare Again which is slightly more pink toned. The range includes everything from dark red and nude and everything in between. As with all MAC lipsticks they are vanilla scented which makes them so lovely to use and to wear. The compact is stylish and black as is common to MAC lipsticks and easy to use. There is slightly more product in these than regular MAC lipsticks which is a bonus.
I think these are just so beautiful for summer wear. I would certainly place these in the fridge if I was going to a very hot country, which is what I tend to do with lipsticks anyway if I am a room overseas, as this keeps them fresh and prevents them from melting. You just have to remember to remove them at the end of the holiday.
If you love the colour of a lipstick, but the look of a gloss, this might just be the product for you. It has just the one negative aspect that it doesn't last as long as a MAC lipstick does on the lips, but this can be remedied by the addition of a lip-liner. I love this lipstick and my two favourite shades are really up there with my all time favourite products. I can honestly say that these are my go to lip products for the warmer months. They are excellent value for money and they save so much time and create a natural summer look.
