This item was originally released as a Limited Edition in 2007 and was set to be ongoing due to its popularity. Apart from 'Gaily' (which is a soft red) the whole line is more or less dedicated to subtle colours such as milky pink (long stem rose), soft coral (fun shine) and beige (bare).
The best thing about this lipstick is its glossiness. You don't really need to finish this off with a lip gloss since your lips will look glossy anyway. This also means that this lipstick offers moisture - very rare for something from Mac.
The texture is so creamy that it goes on the lips effortlessly. I would even say that it quite literally glides. This lipstick seems to defy the unspoken rule that glossy lipsticks don't pack colour; the colour of the lipstick comes out very truly on the lips, easily ignoring their natural colour. However, it doesn't look too heavy or made up in anyway and mysteriously retains some sheer quality.
A little of this lipstick is enough to give full colour for the lips and you rarely feel the need to go over it more than once.
The only major fault I can find is that well, this lipstick is too soft for its own good and wears out too quickly for anyone's liking. Add to that the fat that there is only 2.3g there to begin with.
Also, sadly, this lipstick is not really long lasting; after an hour or so, you may notice the lip lines starting to smudge.
I popped into the Mac shop to buy a matte hot pink lipstick and walked out with this, slightly annoyed that the sales assistant told me that my choice was too ageing. I have to say, he was right. The woman standing next to me ended up buying the same product when she saw it applied to me also, so I would say its a winner. I love wearing this, the packaging is cute, small and fits neatly into a night out bag. I often apply the slimshine to dress up an otfit for the evening if I'm feeling a little drab as it look remarkable!! Its moisturising and lovely, looks so sexy but subtle and expensive! A must have for the make up bag and a great way of experimenting with colour once your skin starts ageing slightly and your look needs updating, modernising and sexifying. This is a must!!
I absolutely love MAC Slimshines!! They are definitely my favorite of all MAC lip products. Slimshines provide the buildable color of a lipstick with the the shine and silkiness of a gloss rolled into one. I find most MAC lipsticks highly drying and need to apply a lip balm underneath as well as a light gloss on top. However, this is not the case with the slimshines. I own three colors - Bare, Kissable, and Tropic Glow (the last being a limited edition item.) Only Tropic Glow contains glitter is slightly more sheer than the other two. Bare is the most subtle, pretty lip color. It is my everyday, go-to product for a "my lips but better" look! Since it's a relatively neutral shade, it goes with any eye-shadow color. Kissable and Tropic Glow are both more hot pink colors. My Bare slimshine did turn quite soon after I bought it (only a couple months) but I did leave it in my hot car so maybe that had something to do with it.
I would definitely recommend this product to anyone who has ever encountered problems with other MAC lipsticks, or with lipsticks in general. They are available at MAC counters and free-standing stores, as well as online at the MAC website. Benefit makes a similar product called the Silky-Finish Lipstick for those looking for alternatives.
I have this lipstick in Missy, which I can recommend as an excellent peach for medium skin with golden tones. Not too orange, yet still produces a dramatic effect on lips.
Advantages of this lipstick: Good lasting power, nice range of colours. Although I must admit I'm not sure about the claim to be a combination of gloss and lipstick-seems like a bit of a gimmick to me as shiny lipsticks have been around for a long time without being called gloss hybrids.
Pricey, small quantity. The SLIM is the truest part of the name as this lipstick runs out in no time at all. The claim to be a gloss means the formula is more runny than the average lipstick and so you tend to waste more if you apply it like a normal lipstick. Applying with a brush will make this go further.
Blending took some time-the formula can be very uneven when first applied. Certainly not a 5 second job.
MAC slimshine lipsticks are currently available for £11.26 and are a fairly recent new addition to the MAC lipstick range.
I guess one way of describing these lipsticks is that they're like a lipstick and lip-gloss in one, as they're sheer and light like a gloss but come in lipstick form and are also buildable in colour.
There are currently 21 shades available but sometimes MAC releases new shades as part of a limited edition collection.
I like the feel of these lipsticks; they're light and moisturising and stay fresh and vibrant for hours. I prefer to use this in winter, as it gives extra moisture and protection to my lips.
I highly recommend these lipsticks to people who prefer sheer, light and pretty shades. I also think this is a good alternative to gloss as it's less sticky and doesn't gather in clumps in the corners of the lips.
If you have read any of my other reviews you will know by now that I am a huge fan of MAC Cosmetics - with their Lipsticks being no exception. So I was delighted to discover that they were releasing a new formula. Supposed to give the glossy finish of a Lipglass but without the sticky feel I was eagerly awaiting their arrival at my local store.
Available in Cream, Metallic and Pearl finishes they are packaged in elegent, slim tubes with a shiny metal effect. Very glam!
'Combining creamy emolliency with a unique sheer colour pay off' I was excited to try these out.
At £11.50 they are very slightly more expensive than a regular MAC Lipstick, but great value regardless (Although I do get through these rather quick - Wether due to it's glossy texture or maybe I just apply too much, I don't know!)
Currently available in 21 shades there is bound to be one that suits your tastes and colouring. Favourites of mine include "Bare" - a neutral pinky nude and "Gentle Simmer" - a clean, light coral with shimmer.
The 'Slimshines' have a small, flat top head with means easy, precise application with no lipbrush. Also, due to their glossy texture you don't need to be *too* careful when applying as it's not going to look clownish and bright if you do go outside of your natural lipline a little.
A Lipliner is not required with these, but if you have any fine lines around your lips I would reccommend you use one as they can migrate into them a little.
They feel lovely and creamy once on the lips - sort of like Vaseline or something similar. Not sticky at all, just smooth and balm like. They last well and do not need frequent reapplying, which is always a bonus with lip products. They do not last as long as their 'Matte' or 'Satin' lipsticks though, if that means anything to you.
Other lip products can dry out my lips a little resulting in irritating and unnatractive chapping. The Slimshines do not cause this at all, in fact they seem to actually moisturise my lips which is a property I rarely find in lipsticks.
Overall, I really like these. Highly reccommended to anyone wishing to find a product to bridge that gap between lipstick and gloss. Will continue to buy these!
Provides the shine and moisturising comfort of a gloss but with a smooth, non-sticky finish /
