Advantages: Covers up perfectly, blends in nicely, and lasts all day.
Disadvantages: None for me!
MAC Cosmetics is an extremely popular brand, you'll probably never see a quiet MAC counter in a department store, and it's not without reason. MAC makes excellent, high quality make-up which is used by make-up artists. Of course they're an expensive brand but their high quality products are raved about everywhere including magazines. I've tried many concealers to hide blemishes and blemish scars, and those dark under eye areas, however each concealer I have tried in the past has never been that perfect one for me. I read some great reviews of the MAC Studio Finish Concealer that I knew I just had to try it. It was voted as the best blemish concealer by Company Magazine in their beauty awards last month (MAC were also voted best foundation, blusher, eye shadow, pressed powder and lipstick!) so it is a popular product. As my nearest MAC counter is quite far away I decided to shop online, and I strongly advise against buying MAC's anywhere else apart from their website or a MAC counter as there are a lot of MAC fakes out there.
The concealer is priced at £12.50 and comes in a 7g tub. One thing I love about MAC make-up are their range of shades which has something for everyone, from the palest of skins to the darkest, there's bound to be a shade for you. I am a shade NC15 in the MAC foundation however when I viewed the swatches online for the concealer the NC15 looked white, so I opted for the NC20. This was slightly darker than I expected when it arrived, however it's turned out to be perfect for my skin tone.
I was drawn to this concealer even more after reading the description on the MAC website. It is a lightweight and creamy concealer which provides a smooth and long wearing coverage for blemishes. This is so important for me as there's nothing worse than concealer wearing off that red blemish half way through the day, making it stand out horribly on my face. This concealer actually states that it can cover up blemishes, dark circles, moles, tattoos and birthmarks, which shows how good a job it does. Thankfully it contains Silica which absorbs the skins oils, essential for my oily face and those blemishes. The concealer also has an SPF35, to protect that delicate under eye skin from harmful sun rays.
The concealer comes in a tiny little black pot inside a small box, matching the rest of MAC's simple but classy packaging. The lid is see-through allowing you to see the concealer inside, and the lid just flips up. The packaging is nothing special, but it's far from flimsy and it serves its job well, no one needs excessive packaging.
I apply this concealer using a concealer brush, however you can apply this by finger, but I do find that you get much better results using a brush. I did attempt to try applying this using a finger but I just couldn't get the same good results, and to be fair rubbing fingers over blemishes is not really going to help! I blend the concealer into the area using the brush, and I'm always pleasantly surprised at how lightweight this concealer this, whilst also doing an amazing job of covering up that area. Blemishes and their marks vanish under this concealer, and unfortunately I recently had an angry red blemish near my nose which was barely noticeable after applying the concealer. I also use this under my eyes to give them a nice lift and a refreshing look, I do find it slightly harder to blend this concealer in on this area, and it can look very slightly dried out, but I am getting better at this. I do find it easy to blend in on other areas though so it may be a case of applying some eye cream under my eyes to give it that little moisture boost.
I apply this concealer after applying my foundation but before I use powder, and I love how unnoticeable the concealer is, my face looks naturally flawless and it's just a perfect concealer, I couldn't ask for any more. I understand why this is a highly praised concealer, it's done a brilliant job where others have just let me down. It lasts all day giving me excellent coverage, it doesn't easily wear off and I would certainly buy it again, despite the hefty price tag. I can see this concealer lasting me quite a while actually; I've had it about a month now and used it almost every day without it barely making a dint in the tub.
This is a vital concealer for the makeup bag; don't waste money trying cheaper alternatives. This concealer has everything you need, whether it's dark under eyes, blemishes or even birth marks, this one will do the job brilliantly.
Summary: The best concealer on the market for covering up blemishes and brightening those dark under eyes.
