I decided to try MAC foundations as I was becoming increasing frustrated with buying foundations from Max Factor/ The Body Shop and L'Oreal and finding I just could not get the right match to my skin tone (I have very fair skin).

Most cosmetics companies (for example Max Factor) only have anything between 6 and 12 foundation shades. Normally measured as 1, 2, 3, etc. The Body Shop has 6 shades. Unfortunately, I found even number 1 left me with an unsightly orange mark around my jaw line.. So i had to try something new.

I had heard of MAC (Dita Von Teese and Kelly Osborne use it.. it is one of those brands you see celebrities pulling a MAC compact out of their handbags) so that was a good sign to me that it is a decent company. MAC stands for Makeup Art Cosmetics and originates in Toronto Canada. They have a HUGE selection of colour shades (72 foundation shades). And Debenhams in the UK now stocks MAC products.

I tried the Studio Fix powder foundation that looks like a dry powder. After applying moisturiser, you just rub the little pouffe which comes with the compact into the product and apply it to your skin and you are done. It is the easiest thing around. The coverage is fantastic- it will cover imperfections and even out skin tone. It provides lasting coverage, though you will need to reapply a little powder or more product after about four hours if you want to retain a matt complexion.

It is quite pricey- £18.79 for a compact which depending upon how much you use will last 1-2 months. Each comes with a sort of secret compartment underneath that lifts up to reveal a sponge pouffe applicator that is good enough quality to use to apply the product.

This is perfect for anyone who likes dry powder like foundations (I hate liquid foundations) and who wants a nice matt flawless complexion. I can see why it is used by celebs.
