MAC Studio Sculpt Concealer
Advantages: Numerous shades, water resistant and long wearing, as well as covering up spots
Disadvantages: If you drop the pot it is likely to break
Compared with my previous review of a MAC foundation that was a little under my expectations with its results this MAC concealer I could not rate high enough.
[SHADES OF THE CONCEALER - 10/10]
Firstly I am so impressed that MAC have such a huge range of shades in their concealers which you can get in the exact same shade to the foundation you buy. This means that the extra cover up from the concealer can never be seen. In all there are 15 shades of this particular concealer. Majority of concealers from other brands tend to do just light, medium and dark in concealers and I never find it to be the right colour with my foundation or my skin when not wearing foundation.
I bought this concealer due to having read on the website that it can 'conceal any size of blemish'. Now that is exactly what I want if I have the odd blemish that I need to disguise for a night out. I actually bought the concealer at a MAC counter in House of Fraser (not over the internet) and I asked the MAC girl what she thought about it and she rated it very highly in comparison with other concealers MAC do. So I went for shade NC15 (N=neutral, C=cool and 15 is the shade depth).
[PACKAGING - 8/10]
I absolutely love the packaging; it is by far the nicest packaging I have ever seen a concealer come in. It is in a round glass pot with a screw on black, velvet looking lid which matched my foundation. However, there is always a downside to a glass pot... if you drop it, it will inevitably break! So because of this factor I rarely take it out in my makeup bag unless I have a whopper of a spot that may need a touch up. However, it is very rare that I touch up with the concealer because it is water resistant as well as being extremely long wearing.
[WATER RESISTANCE PUT TO THE TEST - 10/10]
I took the dog out for a walk the other day and just had the concealer on and no foundation. Half way through the walk it started to throw it down with rain and I was completely soaked since we still had around 20 minutes to walk until we got home. I was amazed to see when I looked in the mirror that my concealer barely looked like it had moved. It had stayed amazingly. So a definite 10/10 for long wear and water resistance.
[CONSISTENCY, LOOK AND FEEL OF THE CONCEALER - 10/10]
It is quite a thick, creamy concealer almost with a balmy feel. I hate dipping my finger into it and ruining how nice it looks. This would be the perfect concealer if you have a concealer brush to gently dip into it. It can be used under the eyes (however, I think it is possibly too heavy for around the eye area so I use YSL's Touche Eclat highlighter concealer). A little bit of the concealer goes a very long way, I think it will take me over a year to finish using the one pot. It gives a full coverage which is natural and matte. I am amazed at how natural it looks despite it being so heavy.
[PRICE AND AMOUNT IN POT - 10/10]
This concealer retails at £13.50 which is not bad for a pot containing 5.5g / 0.19oz. This is quite close in price to the regular self serve cosmetics in Superdrug and Boots which are gradually creeping up in price. There seems to be no massive difference between the price of some makeup items in the self serve counters to the premium cosmetic prices now which I think is a great shame.
[OVERALL - DID ITS SCULPTING MATCH UP TO MY EXPECTATIONS?]
I think this concealer is fantastic I cannot praise it enough and it gets nearly 10 out of 10 from me on every factor:
Shades of the Concealer - 10/10
Packaging - 8/10
Water Resistance Put to the Test - 10/10
Consistency, Look and Feel of the Concealer - 10/10
Price and Amount in the Pot - 10/10
Additionally it actually seemed to clear up individual spots, compared with other MAC products which have brought me out in spots. I was not led to believe by the MAC lady that it contains any ingredients to reduce the redness or size of the spot but I have found it certainly does that.
Summary: A fantastic concealer to wear with or without foundation
