Advantages: good finish, nice compact, good shade range
Disadvantages: Not good in hot weather, doesn't last long
For my 18th birthday, my Grandma took me to the MAC counter & let me get what I liked :D I chose this MAC foundation because I was told it had good coverage, but without being as heavy as some MAC foundations. (I hear that some are notorious for making people break out, or being very difficult to remove)
Price - £22.00
Avaliability - From the MAC website (www.maccosmetics.co.uk) or see a list of stockists, also on the website.
Packaging - comes in a neat, black compact with the MAC logo ontop. The compact has a good sized mirror at the top, then the foundation, then a bottom layer containing a sponge. I like how the sponge is kept seperate from the foundation & the mirror is very handy. The compact is also a good size to keep in your bag.
Range of Shades - there is a large range of shades that should suit all skin colors. I have NC15 which is good for pale skin, but if you go to a MAC counter they will be happy to help you pick out the right one for you, as the website shade chart can be abit confusing.
Performance - I also brought a MAC foundation brush, but you could apply this with fingers or a damp sponge. It glides onto skin, and feels very light & soft. The foundation is solid, but very soft & feels more like a cream going on. It's easy to apply and doesn't need a whole lot of blending. The coverage is very good - sometimes my skin can be very blotchy and this foundation gave me the appearance of smooth, near flawless skin. I use a concealer over the top for spots/a scar on my chin but it would cover minor imperfections very well. It's also light-reflecting which gives a well-finished appearance to skin & I use it under my eyes before touche eclat. You don't need to apply alot, but there isn't a whole lot of foundation - I brought this compact in August and had used it up by the end of November, which isn't too good.
This foundation is easy to remove with the usual cleansing routine, and didn't make me break out atall.
The only problem I have with this foundation is that it doesn't last all day & also doesn't mattify all day. If you put it on in the morning, by lunchtime your skin is quite shiny & it's rubbing off to the touch. A light dusting of mineral finish or powder helps with this problem, but it's definetly not a foundation that takes you from morning to night without the need to reapply.
It's also not very good in extremely hot weather. I got this foundation just before going to Paris & and it practically melted off the minute I stepped outdoors.
This is a real shame because I do like this foundation & if it had better staying power, it could be a real hit.

Summary: Great foundation, shame it doesn't last all day.

- 08/12/07 Seems a lot to pay for a product that isnt ideal. I'm a bit of a cheapskate when it comes to makeup. |
