This product was one the first good mascara's I used and it was so cheap as well which made it so great. It was on £2 which made me have to repeatedly by it again and again.
The brush is a pretty cool brush because it has small bristles which means it catches every eyelash. In addition to this the brush is designed to have a curl effect which actually does work and makes your eyelashes look really curled as if you used an eyelash curler. This is great if either you don't like doing the eyelash curling step in the morning because it takes to long or because you just overall don't like using an eyelash curler.
Even though I think this mascara is pretty awesome I wouldn't say it was the best and I think it's great as base. Along with this I would say that there is much better mascaras in the drugstore but it is pretty good for it's price. Another con about this product is that if you don't use it after a short amount of time like two weeks it can begin to dry out and not work as good and it's not just this product I have seen from MUA. MUA products tends to dry out really quickly if you don't use them to much because I have this problem in their felt eyeliner as well. In addition to this makes you understand why their products are so cheap because the formula isn't very strong.
I normally wear the basic mascara by MUA but when I last need to replace, I decided to but this one, mainly because I was quite attracted to the design of the tube.
The mascara comes in a slightly curved silver effect tube which has the product details down the side in small black writing. A standard 7ml tube only costs £2 which I think is a real bargain. Upon screwing the lid, the wand is of standard size but the head has a slight curve to it which I find makes it easy to apply to all my lashes, even the smaller ones in the corner of my eyes. The colour choice is quite limited, as there are only two available, black and black/brown, this didn't concern me in the slightest however as I would only ever purchase black.
Upon unscrewing the lid, I can see that the mascara has quite a nice thick consistency and the pigmentation is quite good. The bristles on the brush are quite small and quite soft so I find that when I apply the brush doesn't pull on my lashes.
After applying, I wouldn't say that my lashes look any curvier, I would say that they do look a lot fuller and a good bonus is that I can build up to give myself really thick and extended lashes. No matter how much of the mascara I do apply, I find that my lashes do feel quite soft and don't get that clumpy effect.
A good point about the mascara is that by the end of the day, the mascara stays in place and I don't have 'panda' eyes. When it comes to removing the mascara, it comes away easily with my eye makeup remover and requires little rubbing which is always a good thing.
The mascara is part of the MUA range which is in Superdrug, it is available in store and online (Superdrug have quite a lot of free delivery weekends so if you are thinking of buying online, make sure you are signed up to their beauty club so you receive their special offer emails, also, for anyone that uses cash back sites like Top CashBack or Quidco, they normally have a rate of around 2 - 5% and any discount codes are also displayed there).
Overall, I would recommend this mascara and will be repurchasing so it gets 5 out of 5 stars from me.
Thanks for reading.
Whilst at university, low on funds and using my mascaras until they literally could not be used anymore I couldn't have been more happy when my sister informed me she had treated me to a few bits of make up from MUA this being one.
Up until probably about a year ago I had no idea what the Make up Academy was like, it was a brand put away in the corner of Superdrug which I just avoided and stuck the obvious brands such as no7 Rimmel and Maybeline which I trusted and found reliable. But then a friend had told me about how cheap yet great MUA products was. But as other make up brands MUA is a brand which sells all make up you could possibly think of and even a great unique nail varnish range too. The only difference being that MUA is a lot cheaper and leaves you feeling guilt free once you've bought the products.
Now back to the mascara my sister bought me.
The mascara comes in a silver metallic shiny tube which you can see yourself in with a small sticker on the roof of the lid stating what colour the mascara is. The product is very basic looking and has black writing on the front of the product saying extreme curl mascara and also has the brands name/logo MUA. The product also claims to 'shape your lashes from root to tip for long lasting curls'. I believe the product is very basic looking and doesn't look expensive however this wouldn't personally bother me but may bother some people maybe, who knows. As expected the lid screws off and then you pull the mascara brush out. The brush has a slight curve to it seen as it is a curling mascara. The fact the brush is curved helps you to cover each and every eyelash which is a great advantage. Also the mascara has a nice smelling scent almost fruity which I believe is again pleasant as in the past I've known mascaras to smell fishy for some bizzare reason which is extremely off putting as I hate the smell of fish.
How much and where from?
As this was a gift I have researched how much the product is retailing for at the moment. The mascara can be bought for the wonderful price of only £2!!!!!!! This is from the brands website ...http://www.muastore.co.uk/index.php/eyes/mascara
However the mascara can also be bought in Superdrug for a similar price.
What is the mascara like?
When applying the mascara as said above I find the curved brush is a great advantage to get the mascara on each and every eyelash. It is a nice smelling mascara which also adds brownie points, as said above again. The mascara is extremely easy to apply and gives a slight curl to your eyelashes but my eyelashes already have a slight curl so I wouldn't recommend buying this mascara just because you think it can curl your lashes as you may be left disappointed. The mascara is quite thin and gives a great day to day look especially for the price I believe you can't expect it to do much more. Though I personally prefer a more dramatic look and dark long eyelashes and feel this mascara doesn't do this as well as other brands such as Maybelline but what can you expect when you are only paying £2? I certainly was happy with this mascara for day to day use and basic make up but certainly wouldn't use it if I was wanting a more 'dolled up' look and would use a different mascara. It all depends on what look you are going for, if you only want to slightly darken your lashes with a little curl then this does the job greatly for only £2. Also I find this mascara is a lot easier to get off than other mascaras with simply using facial wipes. Also I have found with this mascara it has lasted about a month per tube with every day use but this is not as long as other mascaras have lasted me such as Maybelline ones. Also with regards to how long it lasts per day I would just warn you that it doesn't last as long as other mascaras and starts to rub off leaving you looking like you didn't apply it much but does last the majority of the day.
So if you personally don't go for a more dramatic darker look and just use mascara just to darken your lashes a little bit then I believe this mascara is cheap and perfect for you. If your like me and prefer a more dramatic look then maybe its not for you though I would certainly use this mascara again for day to day useage as the price makes it worth it.
Thanks for reading my review, hope it helps.
This mascara caught my eye straight away because of the cool futuristic design of the tube. It was only £2 (which believe it or not is the full retail price!) so I thought it'd definitely be worthy trying and I've been pretty impressed with it.
I was initially a little put-off by the brush as it is very curved, but it covers each of my lashes and isn't too big or small so I can't complain really! The formula of the mascara is a little wet and once it's dried it does actually make the lashes have that dry sort of feel to them but the mascara does not flake or anything.
It isn't waterproof though so if my eyes get wet then it will smudge - I learnt this the hard way the other day when I was wearing it and it was drizzling with rain and the mascara smudged quite a lot so I will make sure to only wear this when the weather is decent from now on, haha.
Despite this rather large disadvantage I have to say I am still pretty impressed with this mascara because even with one coat my lashes look so much longer and it really opens my eyes up and makes my lashes look so much more intense and the colour of my eyes really pops because of the intensity - I have it in black and as far as I know this is the only colour available.
The mascara adds a little volume but it is nothing amazing or spectacular, but it is buildable and with 3-4 coats my lashes look slightly thicker, a lot longer and they have a nice curl to them which as I said before really makes my eyes look open and a lot wider. Although it is relatively buildable I find that any more than four coats and it will begin to clump.
It is quite long lasting unless it gets wet and it comes off easily with a little make-up remover. All in all I am pretty pleased with this mascara as it gives length and a little volume and it des curl my lashes really nicely and I'm happy with how my eyelashes look when I have the mascara on.
I'm going to knock two stars off though because it is not waterproof and it feels quite dry when it's on my lashes. I am not too keen on the brush design either as it is very curved. It has never irritated my eyes or anything though and it's a decent product.
A few months ago I saw on facebook that MUA were celebrating a certain number of likes on their page by offering 50% off £30 spends and as I needed a few bits for my make up box I decided that I would treat myself and my sister to some new bits of make up. One of the items that I bought for us both was the new extreme curl mascara and this is my review of it.
The mascara comes in a silver coloured tube which is shiny and looks really modern. It has a curve to the middle which I suppose is meant to represent the curling aspect of the mascara. The tube features black writing and has the brand and product name on there as well as the information that this mascara will "shape lashes beautifully from root to tip for long lasting curl". The whole appearance of the mascara is a good one really. It looks sleek and modern and would be something you would be happy to have in your make up bag.
Much like with any other mascara you need to twist the lid to expose the applicator want. The wand is unusual looking in that it has a big curve to it but otherwise it is quite a standard sized wand. Application wise you should work this mascara right from the base of your lashes through to the end to create the best look you can. The shape of the brush does mean it makes it quite easy to cover all of the lashes even the smaller ones on the inside of the eye for example.
Now firstly I had to contact MUA when I received my order as the mascara seemed very dry even though it had only just been opened but they were very good about it and sent me three new ones to try just in case I had any more issues with them so I cannot fault their customer service at all. What I realised with this mascara is it is generally less wet than other brands that I have. I used a lot of Rimmel make up and I do like their mascaras as they cling to the applicator wand and usually give me long, dramatic looking lashes which stand out which is a look that I like. This particular mascara doesn't give me the same really dark, stand out, dramatic lashes that I favour on a night out but I have found that it is not a bad product for day to day wear really. The mascara gives lashes a nice amount of curl and whilst it isn't totally dramatic it does give a nice enough finishing touch to the eyes. My sister also thinks this is a decent day to day mascara and she has been happier with it overall than I have and so I gave her the additional two of the three replacements MUA sent me.
I found that removing this mascara was no more difficult than removing any other and that my make up wipes removed the bulk of it when I took off my make up at night.
This mascara comes in a 7ml format and is in black. As far as I am aware this is the only colour but it is the only colour I would ever want anyway! The price of this mascara is just two pounds and given I ended up paying £2 for five mascaras in the end I cannot really be too harsh on the product! At £2 I think this is a good quality day to day mascara. If you want something really wonderful and dramatic then really you are going to have to pay more but certainly for the price this is a good product really. It coats lashes well and creates a nice look, I just personally want something a bit more for my eyes really.
Thank you for reading my review!
~*~*~ MUA Extreme Curl Mascara ~*~*~
~ What is it? ~
This is a super cool looking mascara from MUA (Make Up Academy). It promises to offer extreme curl to your lashes.
~ The Look ~
The mascara comes packaged in a really smart chrome coloured tube, the tube is slightly curved and rather than being a round cylinder shaped, it is like an elongated teardrop! The tube is all curved and smooth yet has a definitive line across the top of the whole tube. The brand name - MUA Makeup Academy -is printed on the lid in small black font, and the product name and a small blurb is printed on the tube - eXtreme Curl Mascara - Shapes lashes beautifully from root to tip for long-lasting curl.
I think it is a cool, sleek tube and it was that, that attracted me to the mascara in the first place. There is a white sticky label on the back of the tube that holds the barcode and tells us that this is a 7ml tube, peeling up the top layer of the sticker will show the ingredients and manufacturer information.
Like with most mascaras the lid also houses the mascara wand and unscrewing the lid from the bottle reveals this. The brush is quite long and at the end you will find a curved shape brush, the bristles are very short making it easy to use and control.
It is available in two colours -
I chose black as I usually would and this is made clear by a small round sticker on the lid in black with black printed in white font.
~ Using it ~
Before using the mascara you first have to peel off a clear shrink wrap, this is made easy by a perforated section on the side.
Then you use it as you would normally - Apply it to your lashes!
Open the tube by unscrewing the lid, I don't find the brush is overloaded with product but I do wipe the end of the brush on the opening of the tube to remove a bit of excess mascara so that it doesn't clump on my lashes. I then pull the brush through my lashes from root to tip giving it a little wiggle as I go. I really like the curved brush head and I often bend other brushes into a curved shape anyway as I find it makes applying the mascara easier and gives a nicer curl.
One coat will give a nice noticable colour and it does coat the lashes evenly, it also lift them into a nice curl so it is obvious it works from the first application. I tend to build up the layers when using mascara until I am happy with the result and I don't feel one is enough for me so I tend to apply three maybe four quick coats to each eye. I don't dip the brush into the tube again though as there is plenty of product already on the brush. It goes on nice and evenly with no clumps or lumps and doesn't cause the lashes to clump together either.
~ Price & Availability ~
I bought this mascara as part of a Superdrug 3 for 2 offer, but it is priced at £2.00 which I think is a superb price for such a great mascara. It certainly looks more expensive than it is and I think the chrome coloured tube makes it look really trendy and smart.
It is available from Superdrug stores or online at -
~ My Thoughts ~
As you can probably tell I am very impressed with this mascara. It was the sleek chrome packaging that initially caught my eye and I am very pleased it did.
I didn't try this out immediately as I was going to wait until Christmas to open it but my little one decided to rummage through my make up case and loose my mascaras and lipglosses! So being the lazy git that I am rather than pull the sofa out and retrieve my lost make up I decided I had no other choice but to open this mascara - That's my excuse and I am sticking to it! (I have since found all my stuff except for my eyebrow tweezers!)
I used this in the morning before heading out for the day and I thought no more of it until later in the evening when I looked in the mirror. I am glad to report that my mascara was still firmly in place and my eye's looked as good then as they did when I first applied it.
I wear mascara on a daily basis so I have been through a few over the months and years and this one for £2.00 is definitely one of my favourites. It makes my lashes look really long and beautiful and if really layered on my lashes look a little fake they are that full.
I am impressed by this cheap mascara, it neither looks nor feels cheap and I will be going back for more!
