Advantages: £1! Great quality for the price, good pigmentation, smooth powder, easy application
Disadvantages: Not the best quality packaging
This is one of the best bargains i've got in a while! At £1, it is more than half the price of my beloved Barry M eyeshadow, and I actually find that quality wise, it's in the same league. I have stocked up on plenty of these just incase Superdrug decide to add an extra sneay quid onto there Makeup Acadamy range, but thinking about it I would quite happily pay a few pounds extra for this because of the quality and overall product - I love it! I wasn't expecting it to be anywhere near as good as it is if i'm honest.
The eyeshadow comes in a generous 2g black compact type case with a transparent lid. It's adorable! Ideal for travelling too due to the size of it - so easy to fit into a handbag or pocket. The transparent lid is also really handy as it allows the excact shade of the product to be seen before purchase, and also helps me organise my makeup as I have so many eyeshadows, and as it is transparent it's easy to see which colour is which. The fact it has the brand name on the front (MUA with Make Up Academy written underneath) is handy too and the packaging overall is really nice considering how cheap the product was. I will admit it feels a little cheap - it's plastic, including the lid, just incase some of you were wondering if the lid was glass! The lid scratches really easily and the marks are really visible, and I barely even pick mine up (I keep it on my dressing table), so goodness knows how the lids in such a state!
The eyeshadow is available in lots of colours, including the same colour but in light and darker shades such as dark, light, medium etc. Some of the colours include beige, green, purple, blue, grey etc. If buying online it is awkward because they do not give the excact name of the colour, they only give a shade number (eg shade 1, shade 13 etc), so you have to go entirely by the picture which is not always accurate so I personally prefer to buy mine in store so I can have a proper look at the colour rather than just taking a guess. I know it is only a pound, so you're probably thinking 'does it really matter if for a quid i get the wrong shade?' but you need to remember £1's really add up so lik I said just be careful choosing the colour as it may not be excactly what you expect.
I have a few shades, but my favourite would have to be shade 9, which in the pot looks to be a navy blue/dark lavendar type of colour, but it is infact a really nice fluorescent purple - I did wish I had swatched it before buying at first, as I prefer darker colours, but it has really grown on me. The eyeshadow is almost identical to Barry M's dazzle dust and has amazing pigmentation, the powder is soft and versatile and it's so smooth and easy to shape, it's not flaky, hidously chunky, or anything like you would expect with a £1 eyeshadow - it's just amazing! It's also easy to blend and works with a base however unlike with similar eyeshadows a base is optional because as I said before it doesn't flake and the pigmentation is nice and bold even after one layer is applied, it is pretty subtle considering the rich and flawless pigmentation.
This eyeshadow gives a colourful, vibrant, bright look to my eyelids and lashline, and brightens my eyes up nicely. It does not clash with my other makeup. I expected it to give a smoky effect to my eyes, but it doesn't, however if you took the time to blend it into that sort of look if could easily work. It does give a sort of metallic, slightly sparkly look, but not the '10 year old going to a disco' type of sparkly! According to one of my friends who is also a MUA fan there are also matte shades available, so I am going to keep my eye out definetly, but because of the weird shade numbers and no names it is quite awkward!
Applying the eyeshadow is easy, I personally use my fingers, a sponge applicator or a small foundation brush. All work well and give good coverage, but choosing how to apply the shadow depends what kind of look you're going for, I use the sponge applicator for the smoky effect and my fingers to shape it neatly. It lasts well and it all comes off with one makeup wipe with minimal effort.
Overall i'd reccomend these eyeshadows. Well pigmented, looks great and doesn't feel or look cheap at all. There's plenty of choice colour wise so i'm sure there's something for everyone, and at a pound it's an absolute bargain.
Summary: Well Worth A Quid!
