MUA (Make Up Academy) is a budget beauty brand which exclusive to Superdrug stores.
~Eyeshadow~
The MUA range includes eyeshadow palettes, loose dust eyeshadow and a range of basic eyeshadows. The basic range includes approx 19 shade (depending on where you buy from - there are 19 on the website) in two different finishes - pearl and matte. The shade range includes a lot of quite dark shades including green, blue, black and purple as well as a few lighter shades include baby pink and a creamy coloured eyeshadow. The shades aren't named and are simply referred to as 'Shade 10, Shade 18' etc. The pearl shades include a delicate hint of shimmer whilst the matte shades are said to be easily blendable.
~Design~
Given the price, you cannot expect too much from the packaging. Each single eyeshadow is presented in a round, plastic compact which is black at the base and features a clear lid with the MUA logo on it. The packaging doesn't look brilliant - it is very basic but is actually quite durable. There are no applicators provided.
~Price~
Here is the best part - these eyeshadows are mega cheap at just £1.00 per compact! Available instore and from www.superdrug.com.
~My Thoughts~
My make up box is full of eyeshadow palettes including Clinique and Lancome which I keep for special occasions. For day to day use, I like to use something cheaper yet worthwhile. I adore the MUA make up range and own several products. I bought a few of these eyeshadows purely based on reviewers recommendations. At the time, Superdrug were running a 3 for 2 offer so I managed to secure 3 of these lovely eyeshadows for £2.00 - bargain!
Initially, I considered the shade range to be quite limited especially if you aren't keen on overly dark colours. Once on the eyelids though, the colours are ever so slightly lighter in most cases so there is enough shades to consider and try out. I like a bit of variation when it comes to eyeshadows. I do tend to favour lighter colours including baby pink or silver but occasionally I do like to apply something a bit more noticeable. I currently own Matte Shade 16 which is baby pink, Pearl Shade 10 which is a blue sky at night sort of shade and Pearl Shade 15 which is a black with hint of silver sparkle shade.
These eyeshadows are very simple to apply either with my fingertip or with a soft sponge eyeshadow applicator. The surface of the eyeshadow is a high quality and transfers to my chosen applicator well without becoming crumbly. The eyeshadow sweeps across my eyelid effortlessly and feels ultra soft, smooth and lightweight - I cannot tell it is there and there is no fall out of colour. The eyeshadows are easy to blend and aren't messy at all. I do not use a primer and find that this eyeshadow looks smooth on my eyelid and is very gentle.
Shade wise, these eyeshadows provide a beautiful and fairly pigmented colour with just a few sweeps of the powder. I have been impressed with how lovely this eyeshadow looks on my eyelids and it doesn't look cheap or tacky like some cheaper eyeshadows can do. It is easy enough to build up my desired level of colour. Shade 16 looks matte and smooth on my eyelid - it is beautiful, soft pink shade which is pretty and girly. I like wearing this one during the day with a sweep of eyeliner. Shade 10 and Shade 15 are perfect for wearing if I am going out in the evening with a full face of makeup. Shade 10 is quite a rich shade and the shimmer is understated and simply enhances my eyes which I like. The shimmer isn't OTT and catches the light perfectly - it is quite a classy look according to my Mum.
The eyeshadow lasts well on my eyelids and is still fresh and noticeable after around 7 hours wear which I find excellent. I do not feel the need to top up the colour at all. Any remaining colour can be wiped off easily and it is worth noting that I have not experienced any irritation from using this eyeshadow.
~Conclusion~
Overall I cannot really fault this eyeshadow. Given the price, these eyeshadows are of an extremely high quality and I find them more appealing and long lasting than some I have paid 8 x the price for. They are perfect for those who are watching their hard earned pennies and are worth every penny in my opinion.
Thanks for reading :)
