“ Brand: Make Up Academy / Type: Lipgloss / Suitable for: Lip „
When Superdrug brought out their £1.00 range of make-up last year, I went a bit crazy and bought pretty much every different product!
While I love a majority of the products, the squeezy lip glosses are one of the products that I am not overlly keen on. The lip gloss is available in quite a few different colours ranging from clear to red. I have two clear ones (shade 1) and one sheer light pink one (shade 4). Both colours are high shine.
The lip gloss retails at just £1.00 and Superdrug often have it on offer (eg 3 for 2) as well, so this is a great value for money product and a cheaper and just as effective alternative to Barry M/Rimmell etc lipglosses. It comes in a 16ml clear, squeezy tube which is a handy size to pop in my handbag. The tube is transparent which I like as I am easily able to see which shade is which. The tube has black writing on the front of it which simply says 'MUA Make Up Academy Lip Gloss'.
Although the packaging is very basic I don't think that it looks cheap or tacky. The tube has a black lid which screws on and off and stays on securely so there's no worries that the lid will come off and the lip gloss will leak in my handbag/make-up bag. Underneath the lid, attatched to the tube there's a slanted plastic applicator which dispenses the lip gloss from a hole when the tube is squeezed. Quite a lot of product comes out, even when I squeeze it gently, which is the first disadvantage because there is no way of getting the gloss back in to the tube, so a little bit goes to waste each time I use it.
The lip gloss is much thicker than a majority of my other lip glosses and it can easily become gloopy. Unless I make sure that I use a teeny tiny amount of product when I apply it, it can look really shiny and plasticky which isn't a good look. It also can feel like a thick layer of greasiness on my lips if I apply a little too much. I don't apply this with the applicator as it dispenses way too much product and I just squeeze a small blob of it onto my finger and rub it over my lips. The lip gloss isn't at all moisturising and I find that it can actually make my lips feel slightly dry.
It makes my lips look glossy, moist and a little more plumped up due to the shimmery particles in the gloss. It can easily look very greasy and shiny to the point of looking over done but as long as I make sure that I don't apply too much the glossy sheen is quite subtle and it looks nice. I wear the pink shade over bare lips and it makes them look more pigmented and nice and moist/healthy. I ocassionaly wear the clear gloss over lipstick and it works well. The gloss is quite sticky and can feel somewhat heavy on my lips but I don't find this too much of a disadvantage.
The gloss stays in place for around 2hrs before the sheen has faded but as I said above the tube is small and compact so you can easily re-apply it where ever you are. Overall, I give the lipgloss three out of five stars. It is cheap, gives my lips a nice sheen and makes them look smooth, moist and healthy but it can easily go gloopy and the texture is quite sticky.
I have recently been trying different make up items from the MUA (Make Up Academy) range now available in Superdrug, I have been trying products such as the pressed powder, mascara and eye liner. Recently when I purchased a couple of items from this range I noticed that when you bought anything from the MUA range you got a free lip gloss, I hadn't yet tried the lip gloss in this range so was keen to give it a go, especially if it was as good as the other MUA products I had tried.
The MUA Lip Gloss comes in a clear squeezy plastic tube which is slightly wider towards one end, the clear plastic allows you to see the colour of the lip gloss inside. On the from of the tube is the brand name MUA Make Up Academy written in large black letters and the words lid gloss appear towards the end of the tube again in black writing. On the back of the tube is the product information including the ingredients, the shade of the lip gloss and a contact address, all of this information appears in black and is easy to read. On one end of the tube is a small black plastic lid which screws on and off of the lip gloss, this reveals a slanted tip to the lip gloss tube with a small hole in it, this allows you to squeeze the product out of the tube and also evenly apply it to your lips. The packaging really is nothing fancy and is quite basic however all of the relevant information is included which is the main thing, for me the packaging doesn't need to be fancy it is the product that's inside that I am interested in.
The lip gloss is a light pearly pink colour, it is of a reasonably thickness and when applied has a slight sticky texture to it, the lip gloss also has a slightly sweet fragrance to it. I did wonder how sticky the lip gloss would be to wear as I do not like them to be too sticky, also I did wonder whether the lip gloss would last as I have tried cheaper ones in the past and they have barely lasted an hour and have worn off with one sip of drink.
The texture of this product when squeezed out of the tube is just right for a lip gloss not too thin so that it does not stay in place but not so thick that it is gloopy and uncomfortable on your lips. As I have mentioned the shade I went for was a pale pearly pink this is called Shade 2 by MUA, this particular lip gloss comes in about 5 different shades each of which has a number, from what I have seen in my local Superdrug there are various shades including purples, pink and nude colours however this depends on the store you go in, online currently they only have 2 different shades available, however in the range there is something to suit most people tastes.
As I have mentioned I purchased my MUA Lip Gloss from Superdrug, the lip gloss I got didn't actually cost me anything as they were giving the lip gloss away free with the purchase of any MUA product, however should you purchase this lip gloss the 14ml tube cost just £1.00. Personally I think this is excellent value for money as you only need a small amount of the lip gloss at a time making it long lasting, you certainly get your moneys worth from this.
I have been using my MUA Lip Gloss for a while now and I have been extremely pleased with it, I did wonder about the quality due to it being so cheap, however when I first applied the lip gloss I was pleased to discover that it glided on smoothly, the slanted end of the tube helps to apply the product neatly and evenly, once in place the lip gloss didn't feel overly sticky or gloopy at all, obviously I could tell I was wearing a lip gloss but it did not feel uncomfortably sticky at all.
The lip gloss does have a slight sweet taste to it however this quickly wears off and is not unpleasant, I particularly like the shade of lip gloss that I chose, the pale pearly pink looks very natural and subtle, it is the sort of colour that you could wear for any occasion whether it be general everyday shopping or a night out.
The lip gloss is extremely cheap to buy, it is long lasting as you do not need to keep re-applying it meaning it is excellent value for money. How long the lip gloss was going to last when applied is something that I thought would cause a problem as I thought it would wear off quickly, however I was pleased that it actually lasted very well, it did not wear off with the first sip of drink, obviously it didn't last as long as a lipstick however it did last a decent amount of time for a lip gloss.
Overall I would highly recommend the MUA Lip Gloss it is of an excellent quality, and extremely cheap to buy, it is an ideal everyday product for your make up bag, I will definitely be purchasing this in some other shades in the future.
I did review previously one of the cosmetic bits I picked up in Superdrug a while ago including the MUA mascara, and another of the products I nabbed was MUA (Makeup Academy) Lipgloss.
The gloss is a 14ml tube and I picked up shade 3 which is rather a goldy/glittery neutral shade which is quite subtle. There are various other shades but I felt this was the one most suited to my skin tone and to just give a glimmer look which would nicely enhance the look of my lips as I am always conscious of them looking like I have slapped a tub of grease on them! I also think they generally are quite big so never really wish to draw too much attention to them as a key feature on my face.
This MUA lipgloss comes in a tube, which ideally is never my first choice, I usually much prefer a wand type lipgloss or a simple chapstick/lip moisturiser tube but with this I thought I would try something new as I really liked the colour. It has a black screw top lid and underneath is a diagonal shaped spout with a small hole through which to squeeze the lipgloss through. I do think looking at it the hole is larger than I expected, so only requires a gentle squeeze to apply a decent amount onto my lips.
The consistency of this lipgloss is well balanced, as it is not too sticky so that food and hair sticks to my lips but still has a rather long lasting shine so constant re-application of this lipgloss is not needed every 5 minutes. It's weird as the shade of this lipgloss is almost a caramel, nude colour and it also kind of smells a bit like a sweet chocolate/caramel scent. Not sure if this is intended or coincidental but it smells really nice!
I have had this tube some time now and it has served me really well. It only costs £1 as are other MUA products which I think is great value and I most likely will end up buying this again and again!
I love beauty bargains and Make Up Academy by Superdrug sure is budget make up at its finest. I first came across this range a few months back now and I'm really glad I did.
Make Up Academy - Lip Gloss Tube Two:
"High shine gloss in a tube for on the go glamour - Make Up Academy provides trend shades on a budget, allowing you to achieve the latest looks without breaking the bank!"
Well as this one was of the first items I purchased from the MUA range at the time I didn't really hold much hope, it was one of the them "oh well its only a £1 will give it a go" moments.
Tube 2 is a light pink shade though looking at the colour in the tube I was thinking it would come out darker on my lips. The gloss when applying is a transparent baby pink which creates a lovely healthy looking shimmer on my lips.
When applying the gloss it comes out of the plastic tube in a slanted shaped top which makes it easier when smoothing against my lips. It has a medium consistency however it doesn't feel thick or boggy on my lips. My down fall is licking the gloss off; it has a sweet candy like taste.
Once it has been on my lips for a while it does go a little sticky but certainly not unpleasant. So I normally re-apply every couple of hours, so it always looks and feels good on my lips. I use this gloss as part of my work make up (yes I have a whole different bag for my work make up). The tube has lasted me a couple of months now and I still have just under half a tube left - so excellent longevity for a £1.00
I would say this gloss lasts despite me drinking and licking and talking away. I will be purchasing this gloss again but I think I will be getting a shade darker next time. Once contents has gone the plastic tube can be recycled.
Price and Availability:
This gloss is only £1.00 again amazing value for money as this tube lasts for ages. As this is a Superdrug brand it can only be purchased from a Superdrug store or via their website. Right now it is free delivery until the 24th December.
This is absolutely great for the money, feels nice on my lips, has a pleasant scent plus taste, and lasts well on lips. I wouldn't hesitate in recommending this. A beauty bargain must have.
One thing I will say is always go a shade darker as the gloss seems to come out lighter.
Five out of five stars from me.
Thanks for reading.
MUA is a range from Superdrug itself for bargain on trend make up products for only £1.00, which I think is fantastic and will be purchasing my way through there range.
